I feel a mixture of sadness and joy watching these clips. It’s so sad to see Phil in such a frail shape. However, he’s giving it his all and the crowd is giving it back in love. When they are interacting and singing along it brings on the allergies. To top it off when Phil turns around and looks up at his son killing it on drums I almost can’t hold back the waterworks. Gold.
omg I just saw the end : big emotion with is son playing the same parts Mike did what he could but I think his best solo was in 1987 and Phil can't reach the high notes so he had 2 backing vocals sadness of the old age but I pay many tributes to him check my channel out !
Sit down, sit down, sit down, Phil - A true hero - Sitting next to you on stage at the Genesis Show NEC in the early 80s will always be a sweet memory. About £4 a ticket then and I was free - Amazing!
Very few performers sing the way they used to, and even fewer have the balls to go on stage and perform, Phil's voice is definitely not as it used to be, but kudos giving his all, true fans will appreciate these legends
3:34 you can hear his voice clearly still ringing out they could have used voice correction technology but I believe it is better in it's raw form. Phil is the savour of genesis and this allows the other members to also flourish at what they are good at.
I sat next him - He was bearded then - the sweat was pouring off him - It took its toll, but so looking forward to next week's show - Great video my friend.
Splendid! I cant believe it...hearing Home by the sea, after almost 40years, again. So precios hear Phil one more time on stage...and 1 gift, With his son on drums... just thanks all. Please sorry me english. Phil no puedo creer escuchar Home by the sea, luego de alrededor de 40 años, de nuevo. Preciado Phil, una vez más en escenario, ...y 1 un regalo 🎁, con su hijo en la batería! Simplemente gracias!! Perdón mi ingles
This breaks my heart, when I think back to how this used to sound live. Poor Phil but total respect to Phil for giving these last performances to the fans. Incredible band. I salute Collins Jr too, for his performance here.
The fact that it breaks anyone's heart ,tells me, Well ,let's get out there and make another check, might be the last hurrah, that's obvious, the band is tight ! But it's time to move on!
I know every single piece of this song like the back of my hand……heard it so many times from being a kid to me now at 39. Second Home by the Sea is technically flawless. The only thing missing was Chester Thompson coming in at 9:35 to join the fun! Even the Mama Tour lighting was there!! So so cool
For me Phill Collins will always be the king of drums. He´s one of the reasons many people have been air drumming throught the years, and I am one of them.
I always loved this band... since they existed. And Phil is a fighter and participates despite his disability, so I love the band even more and....they deserve respect - and no compassion.
I hope they make a DVD on one of these concerts, yes blah blah blah Phil can’t sing like he once used to and who really cares, let’s appreciate that there still all alive and allowing the die hard fans to enjoy them one last time.
I'm sure they will. I won't be buying it because I have no interest at all in Genesis's music after 'Wind and Wuthering': I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not my cup of tea. I expect that Phil will sound better on the DVD than he does here, because the sound will be tidied up/enhanced - that's not cheating, everybody does it. As for the people here criticising his singing, they are not being fair. Age inevitably takes its toll on the voice. I actually think Phil's singing here is passable; I've heard a lot worse from some of my ageing heroes (I'm a big Jethro Tull fan, but I've had to live with Ian Anderson's voice being shot for the last thirty years). I would have thought that the fans who grew to love Genesis in the 80s (not the grumpy old 70s prog-rockers like me) would be pleased just to see the band there doing it one more time - maybe the last time, who knows?
This is sooooooo immeasurably cool! Thanks for uploading for us who couldn't be there! Thanks for your efforts, greetings from Germany, stay safe, God bless!
Fuckin Tony always frowning like he’s Beethoven or something. Oh wait, maybe he has earned that serious look since he is one badass keyboard player and songwriter!
@@alketkellici6766 I’ve seen Genesis 5 times I had no desire to go to this, if you go, then you can’t complain about Phil, it was obvious he was not going to sing well.
I don' think people expected anything more than what they received ,its another band from the past ,cashing in on the last hurrah, they are what they are a band that reinvented its self over the years, but remained the same, a remarkable accomplishment! No disrespect intended! This band has been part of my life emotionally for 50yrs.
There is a great documentary produced by PBS chronicling the development of this tour, including full dress rehearsals with excellent sound and close-up video. The light show alone is worth the price of admission. And his son at the ripe age of 18 is clearly already a pro touring drummer for the most discerning artists.
I've seen that video - is it just me or is Phil lip-synching in most of it? I couldn't make up my mind. More likely that the sound was recorded live then tidied up/enhanced afterwards. That's normal.
@@adolforodolfo6929 There are two versions of the video; one is completely out of synch with the audio which could lead someone to believe he's lip synching. The other video is the "fixed" version where they went back and corrected the problem. Not sure if that is what you saw. Either way, he's live and I think he still sounds better than a lot of other guys his age who need to stop.
@@Arlo360-Official That might be the answer, because it was definitely a little bit out of synch. I agree with what you say - Phil sounded OK, better than I expected given his age and, yes, better than some of his "contemporaries" who probably do need to stop - or to stop singing at least. I do have to say though that he sounds better on that documentary than he sounds in the videos I have seen on here from the actual tour, so I suspect that the sound on the documentary has been enhanced - but, like I say, that's completely normal.
Thanks for the music, guys. Been listening for 40+ years . Between learning your songs as an amateur musician or just enjoying , It’s been a journey. If you are jamming in hospital beds, I will still be watching.
To me this is the best band in the world!Just fantastic musicians all around!Been their Fan since the early 80's when I was not even a teenager yet! They have class, yes I know Phil Collins might not sound the same but all I can say is this:He is giving his Fans around the world a proper Good Bye!I am on the West Coast of the US,thought for sure we will be next to see this magnificent band, but not to be!Saw them at Dodger stadium back in June of 1992!Phil,you are the best of the best, love you Man,God bless you,may you live long and pain free!Thank you for bringing your Fans joy and happiness over these past decades!I
Grew up listening to Genesis and Phil Collins Was my inspiration to learn the drums from a young age and he should be well proud of young Nicholas Fantastic Drumming young man
Tears in my eyes. Been waiting for the concert to arrive and f* Covid didn’t allow me. I can’t believe what an amazing show I missed but thanks for the great videos! It makes me feel I was still there.
I grew up in the 80s. Invisible Touch one of the handfuI of albums that I played until the cassette wore out. It is touching to see one of your musical heros defying infirmity to give longtime and new fans who haven't seen him the chance to do so now. Long live Genesis.
Even Phil's vocals in the Second part aren't bad, if not as good as before, and you can clearly see how happy Mike Rutherford is to be playing his guitar parts again, and Tony Banks sounds as good as always.
Nick is REALLY playing well!!! Great job!!! The band sounds on point as ever, and, even though it is very hard to see Phil in this way, I admire him for doing what he is doing, and I hope when people watch this, they appreciate all that life gives, and takes away, and the human spirit that continues even with some obisticles in the way! Thanks Phil !!!!👍🥁👍
He's like our old grandpa telling haunting and beautifully orchestrated stories. Would definitely go if I had the chance to listen them (I believe) one last time . Tks for sharing, Godbless.
Great job by Nick Collins. It is my life’s dream to play drums on this song with the band. This song is the reason I wanted to play drums! Easily the most under rated band and the most under rated drummer in music!
Thanks DeadmIke for filming this show !!! Mix of sadness and enthusiasm to see the great Phil with his best fellows giving this show... I discover Genesis through ABACAB and then I never stop loving this group and of course, I've listened all the previous LP.... In other words, I'm a fan ;-)
God bless Phil. He could do no wrong in the 80's and 90's with Genesis and solo work. I've seen Genesis and Hackett several times. Genesis is in my top 5 likes of all time. Phil could have called it quits and said no to this tour but I give him credit for going out there with a voice that has given way to age. Wish Chester was playing drums alongside Nic. Nic plays just like his dad did and he doesn't miss a beat and it sounds just like the record. Can't wait to see them in December in Philly.
Thank you very much for uploading this video. I am delighed to hear and see they went on their final tour. This video has helped me to finish my transcription of these songs, especially the guitar tablature. What a gread band, what a great song. Genesis Forever!
My eternal gratitude to these monsters of contemporary music. It would be beautiful if they made a small set together with: Peter and Steve on the one hand and with Chester on the other. And finally a set all together. Dreaming costs nothing ............... Thanks to all who keep us informed at the moment of everything that happens. Big salute
It’s not just a matter of age but also practice. The human voice is like a musical instrument. You have to practice regularly, even it’s just in the shower or in the car, or you’ll lose your chops. Also like an instrument it has to be maintained and cared for. Phil admittedly doesn’t sing anymore unless he’s in rehearsals or on stage. He’s allowed his voice to deteriorate by not practicing regularly. Maybe if he were to practice singing at home instead of whiling away the hours drinking and popping pain pills he could get his voice back.
Amazing performance to be honest. It is really touching to see Phil give his all in these shows and Genesis sounds great. Happy to see Phil's son on the drums! Wow! My best wishes to Phil and the gang.
Phil Collins FOREVER in my ❤️🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Excited to see these guys in Boston next month. Listening to this it's clear that Phil's not as great as he once was, but as you all said he's up there, doing it! And HE IS A LEGEND! Wouldn't miss this concert for the world!
Wow! Thanks for all the great videos from this show, and in particular for the closeups of Tony at work. Watching him do his thing with that stoic face really gives me inner peace, so good to see him in action once more! Cheers from Cologne!
Nossa! Pra mim o Genesis é uma das melhores bandas de todos os tempos. Sou fã deles há muito tempo. Pena o Phil estar tão debilitado. Peço a Deus pela saúde dele. Gostaria muito que viessem aqui no Brasil!!!
Thank you Thank you Thank You! I took my first Girlfriend to see Genesis back in June 12th 1980 @ the Cincinnati Coliseum. What a Great Concert. Phil it's good to See and hear you sing so beautifully! Amazingly enough your voice is still good. Thank you supporting Band! Nick looks like Mike Rutherford is still there? It's hard to imagine him without his double breasted guitar? Tony Thank you! You guys are still Great!
I'm Not As Good As I Was, But I'm Better Then I Always Have Been.Phil's Killing It As Always,Happy To See You Back On Stage Phil,It's Where You Belong.
Age struck him and it's technically not perferct, not even great, but it is fantastic nonetheless. Such a charisma and still such a capacity to arouse emotions, it' incredible. Made me shed a tear.
He needs to go to the Riveara, and enjoy life, its over,he has nothing to prove, after seeing these clips of the show, I would not waste my money, they'd been better off asking Peter Gabriel to do the singing, and phil, well even Muhammad Ali retired! It's not about compassion, Its about the quality! Tell me what the tickets cost?
@@paulsnyder744 priceless !! When I took my degree in economics in the first microeconomics course ( introduction of microeconomics) we learned the following: “The real fool is someone that knows the price of everything but does not recognize the value of anything “. I apologize for my English, I am a bit better in Portuguese though !! 😂
In a way am glad I did not get tickets for this tour. I like to remember Phil and Genesis the way I last saw them in 2007. Already then Phil's voice was losing some of the high notes, but he managed. Now it is just sad to see. He wants to sing, but he can't. I understand this is special for him, to be there with his son, but it would have been perhaps better to simply leave it at the last tour. I have seen Genesis quite a few times, I will always remember them the way they were in the 70's and 80's, I will cherish that memory. Thanks Phil and Genesis for all the beautiful music, concerts and moments you gave us.
Understandable, but if you can't sing in tune, there's no point in playing live -- especially when you have serious health issues and are limited to sitting in a chair (no energy). It's incredibly sad.
I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and live in the late 70s and early 80s as an adult. I have a feeling that I would never want to come back to 2022.
