Actually... ginger cats CAN sometimes look yellowish, rather than red/orange; but _especially_ (though still not always) if they carry the silver gene. But it's more likely to see a yellowish colored ginger cat amongst randombred feral &/or street cats than it is to see one amongst pedigreed or specific-breed cats. A not-ginger colored cat with the Amber gene is also more likely to look yellowish than a ginger cat does. (Amber colored cats are born not-ginger color and then gradually turn a yellowish/gingerish color as they get older.) However, Golden tabbies are also a thing amongst real-life cats too! And golden tabbies, also, do indeed look yellowish/brownish colored. Some tabby cats have something known as Widebanding, which makes their fur look white at the bottom (close to the fur) and only colored at the tips, even when that tabby does not have the silver gene at all. A tabby cat that has both Widebanding & the Silver gene will be Chinchilla or Shaded colored; but a tabby cat that has only Widebanding and doesn't have silver at all will actually look Golden (yellowish/brownish) colored instead. Golden color tabby cats are actually not genetically ginger colored at all. 🙂

Cats with the silver gene are actually _only_ called "smoke" color cats _IF_ they are solid & not-tabby. ^-^

@@LollingCatto Chinchilla and Shaded colored cats are tabbies that actually have both the Silver gene *AND* something else, known as Widebanding. In real-life cats, a Golden colored cat is actually a tabby cat that has Widebanding without having the Silver gene. 😊 No one really knows why some smoke colored cats look the same as cats that have no silver unless the fur is parted, while other smoke color cats can actually look almost indistinguishable from shaded or chinchilla color! (But the widebanding that affects silver tabbies & golden tabbies does not affect solid colored cats^-^) Similarly, no one really knows why some cats with the silver gene look a darker silvery color, while others look a lighter more whitish silvery color. Although, when it comes to red-smokes, it is perhaps possible that they might look chinchilla or shaded for a similar reason to why they look tabby even without being true tabbies. (But this is currently unconfirmed.) Tabbies that have the silver gene without also having Widebanding are just known as silver tabbies-and rather than making a tabby cat's fur have a silvery/white base like happens on solid("smoke") color cats, the silver gene makes the entire background color(or the color seen on tabbies everywhere except for the stripes/etc. pattern itself) a silvery-gray-to-whitish color instead of the brownish/grayish colors usually seen on not-ginger tabbies. Some black smoke colored cats actually look like a really dark gray/almost-black color, even without actually being genetically dilute at all. 😁🤭 On ginger colored cats that do have the true tabby gene, the silvery/whitish background coloring can sometimes (but doesn't always) make them look much more yellowish than ginger cats without the silver gene do. ^^

@@LollingCatto That's actually really common for tortie-points; the orange doesn't really show up as well as the not-orange &/or the white, for whatever reason, unless they are calicos with more distinctly separated patches of all three colors(not-ginger + white + ginger). 🙂😊 My real-life tortie pointed gal looks very similar to that sprite! 💜 I can't actually tell for sure either though if Morningflower's sprite is actually supposed to be tortie-point or a (tabby)lynx-point, or both[ tabby & ginger pointed ...rather than solid-black/brown/etc. & ginger pointed].?...🤔🤔😅😹🤣🤭🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Lol It definitely doesn't look[ to me] like a regular solid (not-ginger) color pointed cat, for sure, though. It's actually pretty rare for white to brindle together with not-ginger coloring the way that it often does like that on torties... most commonly a brindled white & not-ginger cat is actually genetically tortie just with extremely low(if any) visible expression of ginger. ^--^

Well, going off Warriors colour genetics, their designs make sense. Hollyleaf got the black from Crowfeather, Jayfeather got the gray from Ashfoot and Lionblaze (i would guess) got a combination of Firestar's bright ginger and Sandstorm's pale ginger. There I go rambling again...

That occurs in the first episode :) Also, it only applies to the red gene as the red gene is sex-linked, while the black/brown gene is not

Cats can actually be tabbies because of either their mother or their father. And some tabbies do carry the solid(not-tabby) gene without showing it, so their kitts could either get the tabby gene or get the not-tabby gene from their parent(s). Because tabby is a Dominant gene, so it only needs to be gotten from one parent or the other in order to show up in what a cat looks like; while solid(not-tabby) is a Recessive gene, just like Dilution(or lightened coloring) is, and must be gotten from both parents in order to show up in what a cat looks like and will only be carried without physically/visibly showing up it was only gotten from just one of a cat's parents. It's ONLY whether a cat will be ginger or not-ginger that is decided exclusively by the X-chromosome(s)-which a male cat only gets from its mother, while a female cat gets one from its mother and another from its father. 😊 (Although there are also some other genes which can make a genetically not-ginger cat LOOK as if it is a ginger color cat-but these are much less commonly seen.)

Oh wow, this comment helped me understand my cats genetics, my cat Cooper is a orange tabby and his mother is, I think a grey tabby and I was wondering why Cooper was orange bc we don’t know there father, his mothers entire litter was female grey tabby except Cooper who was a distinct orange so this makes sence

This comment was saying that male cats who have not-orange moms will actually NOT look orange at all; and it was saying that male cats who look orange must have a mom who is either fully orange or at least partially orange(like a tortie mom or a calico mom).😅😅 *Because orange coloring comes from a gene that only ever happens on the X-chromosome(s)...* ..and male cats typically only get an X-chromosome from their mom with a Y-chromosome from their dad instead. While female cats, on the other hand, typically get one X-chromosome from their mom and a second X-chromosome from their dad too. The most likely explanation as to why an orange male cat has a mom cat that's not-orange is .. ..either.. ..because _he was actually from a different mom's litter,_ and somehow just ended up being raised by that mom, who wasn't actually his own biological mom(if you didn't actually see him being born & his mom was outdoors when he was born or had access to anywhere else that other cats might also have been)... ... OR because _genetically his mom is actually, secretly partially-orange_ and she just doesn't visibly show it. (Which actually does happen sometimes.) But, occasionally, it could happen if a male cat has some kind of unusual physical &/or genetic fluke which happened before he was born. OR, even more rarely, a male cat might look orange if he got a totally different gene that makes him appear that way without actually being orange genetically at all(But this has pretty much only been known to happen specifically in cats that are Kurilian Bobtail breed cats)...although there is a Recessive gene known as "Cinnamon" that can sometimes look very similar to orange coloring which can actually be found in almost any breed of cat. ((Recessive genes only ever visibly show in what a cat looks like if that cat got it from both of its parents, whether those parents visibly looked like it or not, their kittens still might. Whereas..Dominant genes will almost always show in what a cat looks like, no matter if that cat got it from only one of its parents or from both of its parents, so either one or both of their parents must visibly look like it or none of the kittens will either.)) I'm curious - Were you saying that you "think" the mom of your cat and his sisters is a gray tabby ... because you don't actually know who their mom is? actually in the first video, Firestar was NOT ginger- he was brown, because Nutmeg was brown and could not pass on any red to him. So Leafpool ended up being tortie ^^

Perhaps because the genetics behind patterns aren't as easy to find accurate information about? And because the way they interact is more complex? idk 🤔😁🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Lol Tabby patterning is actually controlled by a minimum of three different genes other than just the gene which decides if a not-ginger cat shows its tabby pattern or hides it and is solid colored instead. 1st there's the gene which decides if a cat will either have mackerel stripes or "classic" blotchy-swirls. 2nd there’s the gene which modifies stripes into spots or "broken bars". & 3rd there’s the gene which makes tabbies "ticked" or "patternless" without any stripes or swirls or spots on them anywhere at all, except sometimes on their legs.. 😅😅🙂

Not necessarily. Black & brown coloring isn't linked to the X-chromosome like ginger coloring is. So it depends on both parents if a not-ginger cat will be either black or brown. But he DID get the fact that he is not ginger colored from his mom. 🙂

A cat can't be black and brown unfortunately BUT it could be that she'd just a very very dark brown color that looks like black. I have a cat like that! Everyone calls him black, but no, he's brown XD It depends on how much white she has also- if it's just a little, then yes, possibly! If it's a lot, then she's not quite as possible

If the father is brown and the mother is gray... they can indeed have one son that is black, and a different son that is gray. As for whether or not those two parents could have a black & white daughter though... it depends? (Like LollingCatto says ^^) If she is either black & white like a tuxedo or only has white on her chest/throat or belly or legs/paws(or maybe nose &/or tail-tip), then YES! they could! Because both mom and dad could be carrying Recessive white-gloving without showing any white, but could have a kitt who got the geen from both of them and did actually show it! ( White-gloving _usually_ only shows whiteness on the paws and sometimes the chest &/or tail-tip, but it does occasionally happen that a cat with white-gloving can have an unusually high expression or amount of white and actually look almost indistinguishable from a tuxedo patterned cat that has the [co-]dominant White-spotting gene, but White-gloving doesn't go up higher than the chin if I remember it right so a white face or a white back would mean White-spotting would be needed and not gloving. ) But if the daughter has more white than a tuxedo pattern cat or is more white than she is not-white... nope, it's pretty much impossible that two solid-colored cats with no white on them could ever have a kitt that is mostly white like van or harlequin type patterned cats.. . 🙂 😁 ....unless you want to go the extremely atypical route and say they're both coincidentally heterozygous for White-spotting but with no visible expression of that whiteness, and their daughter just happens to have a much higher visibility of white-ness and/or be homozygous for White-spotting(having gotten the gene from both of them rather than only from just one of them), which technically _could_ happen .. but is theoretically less likely, though not totally impossible. Lol What LollingCatto says about cats being both black & brown at the same time not typically really being possible is true too. But if one or both of the parents were tabby patterned instead of solid colored though.. it actually isn't uncommon for tabbies to have a little bit of browning around their noses &/or chins especially. (And the brothers/sons still wouldn't necessarily have to be tabby too, since tabbies can carry solid color without showing it.) You could also realistically make that tabby an "unpatterned" or "ticked" tabby too..so they wouldn't have to show any stripes or spots or swirls, but their brown or gray coloring would look kind of flecked like a wild rabbits fur rather than completely solid. Although it is actually possible in real-life that a cat could happen to be a chimera, in which case they might be both brown and black at the same time; but this isn't usually something that could be passed genetically from a parent to their kitt, it happens when two kitts coincidentally merge together for some unknown reason while they are growing inside their mom before they are born so that they are born as one cat/body instead of two. (Even though LollingCatto chose not to use chimerism at all in these videos for simplicity's sake themself.) That could potentially happen with one gray parent and the other brown parent, if the gray parent was carrying brown without showing it, and the brown parent was carrying dilution without showing it ^-^ (They couldn't have any kitts with ginger coloring though-not even through chimerism. Just for the sake of example. Lol)

Diluted chocolates are light gray/brown. Some dilute chocolates look more brown than others do, while some look less brown and more gray. 🙂 Similarly, some Cinnamon and diluted cinnamon color cats look more reddish-brown while others don't look nearly as reddish and just look light brown to tan-ish colored.😊😊😁 (But if you put a dilute chocolate color cat right next to a dilute black/gray color cat, you can almost always tell which one is brown-based versus which one is black-based^-^)
