#uconnhuskies #genoauriemma Geno Auriemma signed a five-year contract extension Tuesday night. The contract will extend through the 2029 season. Geno is entering his fortieth season with UConn. Like, comment, and subscribe!
I'm NOT surprised..He is still young at heart and loves the game...I just turned 74 (Retired) and I'm still active. It's good to be busy and active..It keeps you going..
5 years is a surprise. I never believed he was leaving with Paige. I always thought that suggestion was silly. I hope this helps in the short term with recruiting. Also, it was nice seeing the majority of the team at the Connecticut game tonight.
I love that he signed a 5 year extension. I think that will help with our recruiting for the next few years. Anybody wanting to come play for a legend may have concerns if they hear rumors of retirement. So I think this was really big for the program. Just as a fun thought exercise though, who do you think would take over after him now? Maybe Louisville’s coach? Princeton’s coach? Shea Ralph? Morgan Valley? One of our many other amazing assistants??
With regard to age as an issue for Geno, as an old history teacher before changing careers, long since retired - I give the following historical perspective: In 1787 in Philadelphia with the vote to approve of the newly crafted Constitution in doubt, the eldest of the 55 delegates, Benjamin Franklin, aged 81 years rose and gave the seminal speech perhaps in the history of country and with that final speech of the convention won the approbation of the convention for the Constitution and the rest as they is now history.
So happy for UConn, Geno, and CD. Geno's career is already legendary, but knowing he has another 5 yrs to add is awesome. & to the comment from the last video about not scheduling the South Carolina game-I highly disagree. If SC is the best, we want to play the best, regardless of the outcome
5 more years for CD also. Once Geno retires CD will be gone also. 😞 Pretty sure Geno will have somebody in mind once he retires kinda like coach k. Don't forget to root for the guys in baseball to make it to the college world series this year already in the super regionals . UCONN needs another National championship this year.😎
There isn't any reason (other than not have good health) that Geno can't continue to work at what he does best. Remember, he has a staff that's well versed in everything UCONN. As a CT resident and UCONN fan, I'm thrilled. Now, will "Listen UP" last as long as Geno remains a coach at UCONN?
It is hard to come up with a successor if it is a decision being made 5 years from now. A lot of people mention Carla. I would like to see her leave Princeton and succeed at a power 5 job. Same for the Fairfield coach. I am interested to see if she has another good year at Fairfield. And then I would like to see her at a power 5 school.
Acutually its more than CD and some of the coaches cannot.... Carley Mooney is the Director of Women's Basketball Recruiting Operations and Student-Athlete Development at UConn. However, as of July 2023, assistant coaches Tonya Cardoza and Ben Kantor are not allowed to recruit off-campus.
Hopefully this will put an end to all the foolish statements being made by "know nothings & do nothings talking their BS concerning the possible retirement of Geno." 🏀 I'd like to see Carla Berube take over as coach in 2029. She has earned it.
