Gentlemen. To begin, you two are awesome! I am a 67 year old UCONN Women’s baseball fanatic beginning with me attending a women’s game in the old field house. What seriously excites me for the 2024-2025 is what Geno will employ with their full court press defense. It’s been so long since they’ve been able to employ this because of their lack of depth. For many years it was their signature defense that crushed opponents. It’s not a defense that is unfair to use against inferior opponents but using it all-year round will prepare them for the Notre Dames, the USCs and even the South Carolina Women. How will Geno give minutes to 12 healthy players? The suffocating full court defense will help Geno alleviate the minutes “problem” because of the need to give players rest. Paige can get her 27 minutes, the other 4 starters can get 22 minutes, the first five off the bench can get 15 minutes and the 10th and 11th women can get 5 minutes (for a total of 200 minutes). The best part for us fans will be to witness the physicality of these amazing women and to enjoy more fast breaking offense. I can’t wait! Kirk Peters

She certainly belongs on the list. I think Stewy is a better basketball player. I bet they ignored Portia Woodman, who dominated women's Rugby for decades.
Thanks Phil & Ry, for presenting the "Listen Up" channel. I have followed UCONN women's basketball beginning with coach Geno's & coach Chris Dailey's first year. I remember all 4 years Maya Moore played at UCONN.
This is huge. Congrats to Maya Moore. She deserves this not only from her on the court accomplishments, but also for being the superb human being she is. The world needs more Maya Moore's.
Maya Moore decided in 10th grade that she was going to UCONN! And, the number of points she scored at the end of her college career was the highest of all female players UNTIL Caitlin Clark graduated and topped Maya's number. One snowy day, my husband and I drove to Providence (not too far from CT) because UCONN was playing in a small facility so we could be up close to watch. Well, we sat in the first row on wooden gymnasium seats! We were right up close watching Maya and the rest of the team warm up and eventually play and win the game. It was slipping and sliding in the snow back to the hotel, but what a night. There is no one like Maya Moore OR Diana or Sue Bird! I know. There are just too many "GREATS" that have played at UCONN and that tradition continues to this day including Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong. Life is good in Connecticut!
Well I don't need Geno to tell me CC is being targeted as I'm not BLIND! Even one of the veteran player's (sorry I forgot her name) said when you come in as the # 1 draft pick you are going to have a lot of eyes and attention on you. What she said makes perfect sense. But there have been some totally flagrant fouls that were totally unwarranted! But I have to confess I do find it entertaining watching the girls play Hard Ball with one another just as long as no one gets seriously injured!
A solid B+ , for recruits. They got #1 Sarah. #7 Ziebell, & #11 Cheli. Add Jana and Chen. I'm satisfied. Especially with another Big, albeit a project at center (Gandy) next year along with Kelis. They will be undefeated in the Big East. It will be better when Dudd retires off into the sunset. No more taking up spaces like DeUseless did last three years. Ines was nice in her limited role. Too bad she got the shaft.
I'm VERY curious to see Ayanna Patterson. She's a junior and has played a total of what... 4 career games? I'm hoping she can make a bigger impact than we expect. So many question marks for this team but I'm so excited to see what they look like. They are due for a healthy season
You better do some research. You don't have a clue to what you're speaking of. Patterson played in 30 games as a freshman during the 22/23 season. As a Sophomore (2023-24): Missed the season due to injury.
B- it is my feeling that the UConn admin have been handcuffed with the returning veteran players that are injured. Because of the uncertainty, it is very possible that Geno and company will have to put together a piecemeal plan in the first half of the season. Too many unknowns. Peace!
The grade I would give is a C. They landed Sarah Strong after the season ended. They signed Geno to an extension. And I think that answered some short term questions. Kaitlyn entered the program. And she is an upgrade. Deberry and Bettencourt had no future here and they exited. And I view those all as positives. It’s a C because they failed to add a big through the portal. And frankly, I don’t think they know how to use the portal very well. There were good players in the portal that UConn did not expect. And I think UConn is obsessed with planning and don’t know how to react to surprises in the portal.
Not an A. They missed on Beers and they need a quality/experienced big. They only have 4 bigs and Brady is the most experienced. 😬 They didn’t need another guard. Plus, it’s not a couple of returning injurees. It’s half a team! Bottom-line. There’s great potential with a lot of unknowns…and we should all be excited!
@@TheDisruptiveOne You continually show negativity towards UCONN. Is it possible that you'd be happier rooting for SC, USC, UCLA or ND ? UCONN isn't the only team out there looking for talent. There are only so many high quality athletes to go around.
The've got to keep adding skills to what they know. After elusive one-on-one offense, there's defense. This is all just my opinion. I think that’s overrated. Geno wants easy to coach players because he is tired and does not have the energy to deal with difficult players. We have not won a championship in a while. Maybe we could use a difficult player or two?
"Unrivaled", the new women's professional basketball league headed by Briana Stuart and Naphessa Collier is so exciting for all of us UCONN women's basketball fans because Brianna and Naphessa are former UCONN stars! Have you talked about this and I missed it? If not, I hope you do!
It is way too difficult to perform the calculus on an undefeated season for UConn at the present time. I think the big question is how well will all of these new players gel with the veterans. There are so many variables to this team this year. Peace! Ps. I would be honored to join your show again.
Agreeing with a previous comment here. Bascoe going to Villanova is a major threat. Georgetown has confidence to give UCONN problems. Creighton will be out for the kill those 4th and 5th year players have not beaten Paige / UCONN outright. Our defense, fouls (setting screens🤦♀️) and unforced errors will truly be tested again this year.
With Paige playing I'm pretty sure that in the Big East they will go undefeated. The team I think may come close is Georgetown if they play well in the conference enough to get select to the tournament in March they may cause fits with certain teams that get In
When they say Breanna Stewart, won championships, all four years, I would like to remind them, that Morgan Tuck, and Moriah Jefferson were in the same class as Breanna Stewart, and they also won four championships. Breanna Stewart was the best player in that class, but Morgan Tuck, and Moriah Jefferson were also very good players, and together the three of them won four championships.
The second best women’s basketball team in the Big East will be sitting on UConn’s bench! Wish you would do an injury recovery report on what the status is of DeCharme, Fudd, Patterson and Griffin is at this point. Can’t find any info in this regard.
there is nothing to report really on those four. None of them are cleared for 5x5 right now. Ducharme would probably be the most questionable, because I really didn't see her at all during the summer session that just wrapped up.
Returning first team all conference players? Bueckers, Maly, Jensen, and Ransom. Maddie Burke? One to watch? No. She's not that good. I think freshman Bascoe at Villanova will probably be one of their more interesting players. Maybe a non-uconn player in the freshman of the year race? I think Nova and Marquette will be way down. St. John's, Georgetown, and Seton Hall actually know how to use the portal. So they will be in the upper middle part of the conference. Butler has shown progress each year. So, it will be interesting to see if that continues. Xavier will be bringing up the rear of the conference like usual.
Once again the big east will be way down. They lost a lot of good players via the portal. There is no biggest threat. Creighton and Georgetown will battle for second place.
