This was how it was back then. As a VA, you're hired for your voicing talent, not your looks/race/gender. Son Goku's VA was a woman and Samurai Jack's VA was a black man. Their voices fit the vision of the character's creator/writer so they were chosen. And honestly you'd be a fool to agree with these twitter loons. They say you can't write characters outside your race (eg. White people aren't allowed to write black characters) but demand people write character outside their race (Hoyo is staffed by Chinese and Twitter is demanding they write more black people). Why cant people understand VAs will play other races then the Actors race

I remember when she was cast for EN Nagatoro and people were all "yass queen" and spouting the representation shit about a black VA voicing a "black" character and everyone had to correct these people that Nagatoro is just a tanned Japanese girl.

That one where it says "i was not expecting a black woman to be voicing that night light of a character", like wow, the brain rot the internet/Twitter and the VA industry has made them think. The fact that there's even surprise at all is sad because VA work has the benefit of NOT having to have the actor and character be the same in most regards - they just need the right voice for the role and general qualifications.

Being able to perfectly voice act a character's voice that wasn't your race and getting hated for it, only for it to be revealed that you were actually of another race, must be the biggest compliment to a va. I can already imagine Kusanali's va grinning the whole time as Twitter erupted into anger, only to then reveal herself as the va for Kusanali.

I'm always impressed when the VA looks nothing like the voice and, as strange as this sounds, when their different works are unrecognizable. Cuz it shows the VA's impressive ability to play a different characters. Also Sumeru is a center of the world for academic pursuit. In lore, people from all over Teyvat come to Sumeru. It's not going to be 99% native like twitter had hope it will be.

Nahida is soo adorable, just like Sayu and Qiqi (and I most definitely going to wish on her banner) and I personally believe that Kimberley will do an incredible job at the voice acting! The fact that they are assuming that the regions of the game are based on specific real-world places automatically means that the people in the game need to be of those races and the fact that they are associating skin color directly with ethnic background when those are two separate things shows that the people saying this stuff might be racist. They're applying real world races to fictional Nations and assuming that skin color automatically identifies you as one specific race or another. That is an inherently racist mindset. Just because someone has white skin doesn't automatically mean they are Caucasian or just because someone has dark skin doesn't automatically mean they're from the Middle East.

I feel so bad for Kimberley. This reminds me of a story I heard about a month ago regarding the video game developer Ron Gilbert of the Monkey Island franchise. The guy was just excited to be able to post some of the art from an upcoming game in the franchise for people to be just as excited for, and instead of that, what he was mostly getting was people complaining about the art style apparently changing. The amount of complaining just led to him no longer posting updates because, as he put it, " The joy of sharing has been driven from me" and I'd hate to see the same happen to this VA because of these armchair race-baiters trying to drag her into their cesspool of hate. It's interesting as a non-American bc a lot of cultures outside of America LOVE sharing our cultures. We love people wearing our traditional dress, enjoying our food, learning to say "hi" in our languages even if it's bad pronounciation and people laugh at themselves for how terrible it sounds. We don't mind voice acting people of a different skin-tone to us because it's fictional and it's about how skilled you are or how well your voice suits the job, not your skin colour. Sharing cultures is how we understand each other better. So when Americans segregate by saying "black people should only voice black people" and "being white is evil how dare they make a pale character" etc, it's... racist. Here's something about voice actors that people like Genshin Twitter need to know; IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE VOICE ACTOR'S SKIN COLOR IS AS LONG AS THEY DO A GOOD JOB AT IT. Skin color NEVER matters as a voice actor since we, the viewers, NEVER see the voice actor, so this whole "stay in your lane" BS is just that, BS. It's also a HUGE double standard. Take MHA for example. The character Hawks is a Japanese man, but he's voiced by a black guy in English. None of the Twitter Tots have a problem with this, but if it were the other way around where Hawks was black and voiced by a white guy, Twitter would be up in arms over it. By Twitter's own logic, Hawks' VA should be fired for not being the same race as the character he voices. Now should he be fired? Unless he's on the same page as Rial, Sabat, and the like, then no since he actually does a good job as Hawks, but you get my point. This whole "VA needs to be the same race as the character" needs to stop. This is also one of many reasons why "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was so god awful because they more or less blackfaced April O'Neil just because the voice actress they got for her was black.
