Psst--because this is a new release, Gentle + Classical is currently offering a significant discount on the "Around the World" bundle, so if this is a good fit for your homeschool, you might want to snag that sale price. Here's the link (affiliate link): shopgentleclassical.com/collections/on-mission-magazine/products/on-mission-around-the-world-full-year-bundle?aff=24

This looks amazing! I’ve never actually been able to see inside their products and understand them. This was so helpful! I think my 5th grader would do really well with this. Thanks again ❤

I'm so glad it's helpful! I agree that being able to get a really good look inside helps a lot with understanding what the curriculum is like and how it can be used.

I love that it’s includes a lot thru geography!!! We tried the passports for on mission but we didn’t like it!!! We found on mission takes us more than 3 weeks per issue!!! I bought a morning virtue issue and used a book selection guide but bought another book on Eric Liddell!!! I don’t love grids especially now we travel school as we are needing to be more flexible!!! I can’t reach for a few days every other week at the moment!!! We love on mission Flashcards!!!

I don't tend to do pretend passports because it doesn't feel very "fun" when we already have to do all the paperwork for actual passports and visas. But for kids who don't have an international lifestyle it's probably more fun!

I always love watching your curriculum overview videos. In your opinion, having completed Beautiful Feet’s Around the World curriculum, and now getting your hands on G&C’s On Mission, which geography curriculum would you recommend for someone who is teaching multiple kids aged preschool through lower elementary? Are you planning on using this curriculum for this upcoming year with your 2 older sons, and tailoring the program to fit both ages?

Between the two--having completed BF ATW...I would not lean toward doing that one again. In my review video I mentioned that after reading the books, it felt like you had to add quite a bit on your own to feel like you walked away having really learned anything substantial about the country. Having the non-fiction content of On Mission magazines as a spine seems like it will make it a lot easier to really learn about a country vs. just read interesting books. Granted--with preschoolers--I think a good portion of history/geography/culture content might go over their heads. With preschoolers in the mix, I would definitely be looking at that "library" page with book suggestions and making sure to use some of the easier picture books (all of the book suggestions have suggested grade levels). I do think the content of these magazines is best for 1st grade and up just due to comprehension. I am using G+C Sequence 1 for this upcoming school year, which suggests including 3 On Mission magazines--so we are using the series of magazines in this curriculum but we aren't doing this year fully focused on world geography. We have actually already started our new "school year" and have been using the Vietnam issue of On Mission and it's been great--my oldest (1st grade) has been really picking up on the concepts discussed in the magazine. (My younger son is 4 and he's in for reading a story but not really old enough for the history and such)

I love this review! Super thorough. Curious: I think I remember Erin saying G and C hired experienced writers to help develop curriculum in a past video. I know you are super busy writing curriculum of your own, but so curious if you have ever contributed to G and C or any other curriculum…it would actually make me more interested. No worries if you haven’t or can’t say, just curious❤️

The only work I've done with G+C so far is creating many of their "grid" schedules, including the grids for these On Mission magazines. I'd love to work more with Erin in the future if the time & opportunity arises.

haha, that is true, you can't do it all! But there are a lot of years in a homeschool journey....homeschool long enough and you can do quite a bit. :)

Does the History and Religion sections have booklists.
@SevenInAll

There are core books as well as booklists for each magazine, as pictured in the Teacher Guide, but MOST of the history and religion content is in the On Mission articles themselves.

Are you doing this next year with your boys? I know its says 1-6th grade (Erin says 2-4th may be th sweet spot) But can it be scafolded for younder students?
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll 3 месяца назад
I have not yet firmed up my plans for the next school year after this one--ha! I think her estimate of 2nd-4th is the sweet spot is accurate. I am currently doing Sequence 1 with my oldest, and that schedules you to use 3 On Mission magazines, so exploring 3 countries slowly over the course of a year. We're currently using the Vietnam issue (which is not scheduled in this "Around the World" year). My somewhat-advanced 1st grader is remembering and comprehending a great deal of the content (I was drawing a great big timeline of Vietnam's history a couple weeks ago to help him wrap his mind around the major events), but my 4 year old is mostly just dancing around the room and playing with Hotwheels. Younger students will find some aspects interesting--coloring pages, animals, handicrafts, and the picture books, but a lot of the history, cultural information, geography is likely going to go over the head of a typical preschool/kindergartener.

@@SevenInAll Thank you Rachel, that makes a lot of sense. I think I have to rewatch your video on Sequence 1, I’m probably getting ahead of myself though since I’m planing for kindergarten this year 😂
