With a small child when you say "no" you can remove him from the area. So if you don't want him to touch the outlet you say "no" and then physically move him from it since they don't fully understand the exact concept of the word yet. Then as they get older make sure that if you choose to use the word "no" it is a "no" every time. That way they aren't confused and see that you mean what you say. A mom gave me that advice. She had 2 children very close in age. She said even if her or her husband later thought they didn't necessarily needed to say to it, they stuck to it in order to be consistent and not confuse or irritate the child.

*Tips for all dads* Active listening builds emotional bonds; share quality time through activities you both enjoy. Foster open communication, making your child feel heard and valued. Lead by example, embodying the values you wish to instill. Encourage independence, supporting their decision-making and responsibilities. These practices nurture a strong, positive parent-child relationship.

This was so timely because the night before this podcast came out I thought of the word “Funishment” and said to my husband, “Do you think I just coined a word for those parents who send kids to their rooms where they have all kinds of things to play with? I’ve never heard anyone use it before.” He said “sounds like something Trey Kennedy would spoof on.” And now the gentle parenting discussion! It fits! 😂

My firstborn bit me in anger at 8 months. It definitely starts between 6-12 months. We baby our kids way too long. And before ppl come at me, I have plennnnnty of higher education and experience in early childhood. These people are crazy to think it starts close to 2 years.

In my junior year of high school, we were supposed to do a research project on a conspiracy theory. I chose MK-Ultra. A similar research project was the Montauk project. They would find kids roaming in the woods, kidnap them, and administer LSD and other mind-altering drugs. It's what Stranger Things is loosely based on. I'm usually anti-conspiracy theories, but the fact that the CIA actually did this to people (and often young teenagers) is insane!

LOVED all the parenting talk! I agree parts of gentle parenting are good, but parts are too extreme. As someone who spanked my kids, (because my parents did it correctly & it worked) I feel that was the right way to go at that age. And because of that, now that they’re teens I’m able to do more gentle parenting because I want them to know I value their voice & input. My biggest stance though is that there is no perfect way to parent. Everyone has to do the best they can with the kids God gave them because your kids will be different from each other need different styles. 😊🙏🏻

Genuinely curious of your experience with spanking? The way my parents went about spanking me as a child didn’t work well, how did you parents go about it?
@evirgil84
@evirgil84 2 месяца назад
@@ava.noelle Thanks for genuinely asking! My dad made it a point to never spank out of anger. He also always asked if we knew why we were getting spanked & then very calmly & rationally would explain something like, “Because you lied, you’re getting 1 swat” etc. It was always the clear consequence because of an act of disobedience. Then afterwards we’d pray & and ask Jesus to forgive us & he’d remind us he loved us & we’d hug. I feel like where parents mess up is 1. Being angry & making it a scary traumatizing event, 2. Spanking without the kid fully understanding what they did wrong. For me, it was always very clear that I didn’t want to do that thing again since I’d gotten spanked for it. Also, they had a very specific spoon they used, that hung on the kitchen wall, so lots of times if they just pointed to it we’d quickly stop arguing or fighting. My dad was a firm believer in this so that “kids fear the rod, not the hand of their parent”. Oh also, the rules were clearly communicated so we knew which ones would lead to a spanking. For us, the big ones were lying, hurting a sibling physically or with mean words, & being defiant or disrespectful. So that was what I did with my kids. As a pastor, I heard him say many times, “You don’t spank your kids for spilling their milk, or some accident like that, and you don’t spank them for things like dragging their feet getting ready. It has to be a direct violation of your family’s rules.” Hope this helps. 😊 God bless!

@@ava.noelle Here are a couple scriptures too that is the reason I still believe spanking done right is effective! “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭6‬ ‭“Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭24‬ ‭‬‬ “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death.” Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul.” Proverbs‬ ‭29‬:‭15‬, ‭17‬ ‭

It’s one thing not to hit your kids, but it’s another thing not to punish them for things that need to be punished. It is better to teach kids that when they are an adult their actions will have consequences. What happened to grounding your kids? There’s no hitting or physical harm involved in that, and it teaches them a lesson. People gentle parent for themselves, not their children. They don’t want it on their conscience that they (in their mind) inconvenience their child in any way, so they don’t punish. They don’t realize that they are seriously inconveniencing them by not teaching them any type of behavioral norm for when they are an adult and when they can get fined or imprisoned for disrespectful behavior in some instances (we are seeing tiktokers get arrested when they are on vacations in different countries because they raise their voice at the cops or wear a certain outfit and didn’t bother to look up how to act there so this wouldn’t happen and then just get upset they are getting into trouble). Trey is right that there will be the children of today in 10 years as adults going rampant in almost everything they do.

My 13 month old 100% knows that when I say no he must stop what he is doing. How do I know, because he stops what he is doing and gives me a freaking attitude. If he does it again you remove from the object/issue. He will test first time hardest. Be consistent over time. No more rules than necessary. Base rules off princles, not if you're having a bad day. Easy easy. (Jk just try to keep your shit together and act to them like you want them to act to everyone while maintaining the hierarchy of parent/child). Charlotte Mason has a good description of what that looks like biblically. (Don't think midwest 90s baptist biblical either) 😂 Enjoyed the episode, you guys are hilarious!

I use the Proverbs 13:24 method. The Bible says you hate your child if you don’t discipline them. Discipline can look different for each situation and child, but doing nothing or just saying, ‘please don’t do that!’ Is NOT discipline after the 900th time saying it. The gentle parenting movement burns me up! We are going to have a generation of entitled brats soon from it. As a teacher I have seen it over the years.

You guys would like the books “Whole Brain Child” and “No Drama Discipline.” Science/fact-based vs opinion-based from so many random parenting influencers/“experts.” 🥴 Talks a lot about kids’ brain development and when they actually know right from wrong, when they’re actually able to regulate emotions, etc.
