[Gentleman Gamer] Horror in Changeling: The Dreaming 

"So far from being mortal....to being creatures of dreams and nightmare in almost equal measure." You are not human...nor will you ever have been. This is great.

So its about being able to see the fire of Prometheus, that burning drive, passion and creative source. The horror is realizing how its dimming and flickering, fighting desperately to avoid the cold and darkness to creep a bit closer to everyone, to keep it from choking to death one more life in its icy grip. Does that sound correct ?

The Players Guide for Changeling added 18 new Kiths from all over the world, and one additional general Kith, the Swan Maidens. When you add this to the existing 81 options already in the book, you reach an even 100 splats. Not only does this cement Changeling's place as the game line with the most splats in the Old World of Darkness, it puts it at the second place in the list of game lines with overall the most splats. It surpasses Changeling: The Lost's first edition with its 92 kiths, with only Vampire: The Requiem with its staggering 110 Bloodlines and 5-9 (depending on how you count) Clans that you can play as. So good on you, Changeling: The Dreaming. Also, the Players Guide is a pretty good book with plenty of stuff for political games, new places in the Dreaming to visit, various new expanded rules including for the Siochianand an entirely new type of Chimera that is just perfect for a player option if you want to experience Changeling in an entirely new way.

I treated the Changeling:the Dreaming like "spirits" from Werewolf. If your character is staved and does not feed off of the "right" emotional energy. Your character starts to "warp." If the changeling you are playing is trap in a teenager body that feeds on "Hope" and the surrounding adults are bullying the children into "fear/ hopelessness." You go derange if you can not bring Hope back into your friends and school's students lives. Or if you lose your humanity, you then become a monster yourself. It all starts with vided dreams and finding that you have been sleep walking. Or your humanity is a joke and your true nature is to bring suffering to those who brought it on to themselves.

One thing I really like about Changeling is there isn't the same push as in most of the other World of Darkness games to actually play a good person. Playing a group of flat out monsters is very well supported by both the system and setting. Although when you get down to it I never much liked horror, depending on what "horror" means. I'm much more about making the disturbing seem attractive, and the attractive seem disturbing.

I've usually thought of Dont Breathe as a rehash of H.P. Lovecrafts 'The Terrible Old Man'. Or at least inspired/ influenced by it.

I been working on a movie inspired changeling game. Changeling scared stupid based and set in Ernest scared stupid. Making it more serious, while still having some of the humor.

I tried to read Changeling thr 20th anniversary and I never really quite understood what is the setting. Not because its not well written (not at all) but because my english is not that good and I dont get the big picture. I would love to listen to some Onyx path official video where you would explain the basic setting so I could have some kind of ... fondation that I can build my comprehension on. Same for Wraith. Like many others I too initially had hesitation with Changeling the Dreaming. The game I ran in late 90s is still one of my favourite chronicles. Great to hear good tips and I'll check Don't Breathe out. The horror of wind slightly undermining a great video 😉 I loved old Changeling the Dreaming and Changeling the Lost. I'm a bit behind on the 20th anniversary games, I love Mage20, and what I've recently found out about C20 a lot of great things like the wonder in science has been added 😍 Adding C20 to my list of things to save up and purchase 😃

I keep thinking of a Redcap joining House Balore, and his deformity is that his hands look like withered bird talons. This would appropriately fit with their mythological depiction of Redcaps having the talons of eagles, in place of normal hands!

it's funny I always saw the horror in the moment of realizing inspite of all the glamour the true monsters wear pretty clothing painted smile and greet you with a cup of tea in hand while plotting to take your everything, and use you as a chess peice in their noble empire, or revolutionary politics, and even though you want to tear them limb from limb you too must paint that smile, sit have tea and plot their destruction. once you looked upon this one as a friend, once you shared a honest laugh with them, but now the innocence has given way to........This.................................. and you can't stop because they certainly won't and even if they did, another would play the game so even if your not interested in politics, it may be interested in you. Many of the games features are political and I think that's for a reason.

Changeling The Lost seems like it's all horror. The Changeling in Changeling Lost are worse than vampires, they're like Demon Lords.

I wanna play a light inanimae. I think there's plenty of horror cuz you're dealing with an entire world of raw emotion and creativity. Those factors aren't always good/ happy.

I think it would be interesting to have the players have their dreams and whatnot, but you as a GM has to think about "one persons dream could a nightmare to another" and play accordingly, and see when pushed how far the players will distort and twist their dreams into nightmares, and go from hero to villain. in a matter of speaking. you could have so many story twists with this, heroes become villians, and the villians, by the npc viewpoint, become heroes or at least anti-heroes because their the ones apposed to the players. lol,

I've never been able to run a successful oWoD Changeling chronicle; usually my Changelings are unique NPCs in other splat chronicles (Hunter, Vampire, Werewolf) but I'm going to try doing one with this thrust and see if I have more success.

I like your shirt. When I play Owod, I often assume one of the game systems are true. For instance, I ran a game of Mage: Ascension where the premise was mortals are all dominated by preditors of some sort and vampires have the ability to be either angels or demons to the humans. Gehena was upon us. Allot of people really like the court play because it is more social. Your video is a nice pitch for Changeling.

Question - Did you ever here of / play an RPG called 'Nightlife'? I ask as apparently it was a huge influence on World of Darkness, but was more cohesive from the outset about how the world fit together with all the different types of monsters. As you say with Changling, sometimes with WoD the different lines don't really make much sense together.
