Join me as I run down my top seven tips for playing Changeling: The Dreaming. There's a lot to unpack here so buckle up, buttercups. We're going for a wild ride!
Thank you so much for that condensed goodness and the tips! I have JUST begun reading the dreaming in hopes to GM it, I have been GMing Vampire for like 10 years and I am VERY excited to mix it up!
Thanks for uploading this! I'm currently looking for a new WoD game to get into, and I think I'd like it to be Changeling. Your tips are informative and give a good grasp of the world and things one could expect!
You're very welcome! Changeling is a great system within the World of Darkness, very unique and flavorful for what it offers. I'm glad I could help illustrate the world itself and what all can be expected. I'll definitely be doing some more in depth videos on Changeling in the future as it' one of m favorite systems.
I treat Dreaming as a negative aspect coming of age story. When you're young and inexperienced, the world seems bright, colorful and full of possibilities. But as you get older and exposed to the outside world, you become cynical, twisted and bitter about what you've been subjected to over the years. Dreaming is the most sad and depressing game in the World of Darkness line from my perspective. Which is perfect, because that's the whole point of the World of Darkness is to be gritty, dark and horrible!
Exactly! That is a fantastic way to look at the entire premise of the game and one I honestly haven't thought of until now. But it makes perfect sense. I've seen a number of people who treat Changeling as less World of Darkness and more "Oh cool, this is like D&D but in the modern day, sort of!" and play it off all high fantasy. That element is in there, but there's so much more in there too.
Thank you for the video. My group has played a lot of Vampire and Werewolf and we are starting a world right now that the GM opened it up to EVERY white wolf game. Yes including Exalted and Scion. So far we have some Vampires a Werewolf and a few from Exalted. I am going to play a Changeling character. Do you have any tips for a mixed gaming world like this?
A mixed gaming world can offer quite a lot of options. I would say that try not to spread yourself too thin initially. Branching out should be a slow gradual process, after all you are playing a changeling so that should be your focus...you should be the the expert, so to speak, on all things kithain and The Dreaming for your party. Also have mercy on your Storyteller because a mixed world usually means a LOT of work on their part.
Thanks for watching but I don't think I went out of my way to not mention them. I've just never played a satyr before so they aren't a kith that came to mind easily while I was talking. That's all.
Ah okay, my confusion stemmed from them being one of the first kith portrayed from the beginning of the game. And you even have mention to the native American fey which weren't available until the players guide. Or second edition. Thank you for clearing that up.
You're quite welcome. I do my filming for my videos in one continuous take and I talk with a stream of consciousness style, mostly because I feel that it just feels more natural, like a real conversation. Plus I don't really script any of my videos, I tried to early on and it didn't really work out for me. As such I can often forget things. All I can say is sorry, if you feel snubbed as a satyr fan.
Nice video on this under appreciated game in the WoD lineup. I always felt that it fitted in thematically with Vampire and Werewolf, with oncoming doom and gloom, but most felt it was a poor fit hence it's sad cancellation.
Changeling is a great game and it didn't get the love it deserved. Too many people looked at the brightly colored book and the colorful and cheerful looking drawing and thought it was childish. More the pity to them.
Basically when it comes to any tabletop games, all you really NEED are the core rulebooks to run anything in it. All the supplemental stuff is just that, supplemental, it fills out lore and stuff but you don't need those because you can absolutely make up your own lore for them.
