This brought back memories. A white 1.3 106 Rallye was my first new car (M-reg). No sunroof, front fogs or centre console in mine. It stayed in the family for many years and went to France several times too. Happy days.
Johnny you have just made my day I am having a crap Sunday as someone nicked my front wheel off my bike while me and my son were fishing you video is definitely cheering me up 👍 brilliant as always great work 👍
I'm sorry to hear that. My step son D locked his bike on the front wheel only so someone nicked the rest of it. In the very unlikely event that you're near Chelmsford and the wheel is for a chunky tyred mountain bike, let me know.
That was the 106 GTi i believe, was a Clarkson VHS, it was Clarkson, Burns and a Peugeot touring car driver trying to find the best handling car in the world, and they all agreed the 106 was the best but couldn't admit it against the Ferraris etc on test 😂
Wow! What a throwback to my absolute favourite car I ever had, mine was M786 FGB in the lovely Bianco White. Sadly when I bought it in 98 the original Michelin steels were long gone and had been replaced by TSW evo’s which I ended up replacing with Antera Valbrem 941’s. I wish I could have that car back. Like the one in the video I fitted driving lamps which they didn’t come with. I think I may still even have the blanking grilles I removed. I’ve never driven a car like it. It was absolutely on rails!
I had a red 1996 106 1.6 D. It came from Denmark to Sweden and was a driving school car in the earlier life. 52 hp with a towing hitch isn’t much to pull a caravan with, but that exactly what I was doing, from 0-80 km/h took an eternity.😂
i bought a 106 rallye almost totally because of the way my friends handled the drive on the roads to visit my mum in scotland , he got me to drive as soon as we left the motorway because he didn't like the country roads . he was green by the time we were at the front door of her house.
This guys cars make addictive viewing , I take it he has an understanding partner, all these cars not being used . Good vid. 100bhp from a mere 1300cc is going some too. Impressed.
A great impromptu video Jonny, worth it to see the lovely motors and the strike up clearly wasn't far away. One to revisit maybe, and get them all going!
Just watched, Rich guessed that is was a from your post 205 GTi so wasn't far off. I love all the big lights on the rally cars and Rich said "It's how you know it's a rally car" 😂
Omg thank you so much. At 21, I had a N reg (late) phase 1. The most missed car I’ve ever owned🥺🥺🥺❤❤❤. Mine was red and with a K and N it absolutely screamed from 7 thousand revs. 👌
That Pug is so clean! I've driven a bunch of basic Pugs and Clios, and once some careful laps at Zandvoort in the ~1994 Clio Cup car. I can mostly remember how nice the gearbox felt, I think it would have been from the Williams version perhaps? Felt better than the basic Clios.
My mate had one of those in the early naughties . I remember taking the piss out of him for buying a 1.3 106 .....until he absolutely blew the doors off my Nova GTE down a B road 🤣
I did the same to several of my mates in mine. They all had so called fast Vauxhalls but couldn’t keep up with me on the back roads, even my mates brand new 1.6 16v 106 GTi couldn’t get near me unless we hit a long straight.
That black 106 brings back some proper memories.. Hearing it was relatively local to me (Gloucestershire) I was half thinking when you took the cover off it, it was going to be my actual car but alas it wasn't. Mine was N702MDD Bought brand new at Warners in Tewksbury when I was 20 ish.. My first ever new car. £9K... I really reallymiss that thing and always wondered what happened to it.
Already 6:50 in i can spot the mk2 clio trophy sat there chilling LoL ❤ just sold my 19 16v and got a 197 after my mk2 clio addiction 😅😂 still at 40 year old am all about them NA hot hatches ❤❤
Ack. Lovely. I miss my 106 GTi. Some twonk shunted me on the A34 near Bicester. :'(. A go kart of a thing. Cornered on rails. Lovely to see this. Thanks Jonny and Gordon.
Wow! That takes me back, when I was a much younger person I almost bought one from Hadley Peugeot, unfortunately I couldn’t complete, due to a change of circumstances. The Clio Trophy (fabulous car!) has a number plate on it from one of my local Renault dealerships. Good times, when life was less complicated. Great content Jonny. Thank you .
Great video as always. Shame it didn’t want to run. Still fun to watch. Shows that you need to fire up your automobiles and get the temps up every once in a while as in months not years.
I've often wondered if cleaning the dry barn finds is the best idea. They've sat covered and dry for years, then get jet washed pushing moisture into everything, then probably get covered again. Dunno
Had a white S1 106 Rallye back in 2000 and was forced to sell due to finances. Such a great car. Looking on MOT check my old one has been off-road for 5 years 😢
Owned lots of rallyes, clio 200’s and clio trophies along with the cup (more like a rallye with no abs) These are the ultimate French hot hatches, a clio Williams, 205 gti and 205 rallye would top it off
Looking forward to this as usual Johnny, Im a bit partial to a bit of French fanciness lol Ive got 3 205’s, 1.6, 1.9 and an Mi16 all in red! I know what are we like! Keep the great vids comin and lookin forward to the Allegro once done, my grandmother had several new back in the day along with Metros and Minis lol 👍🍺
Love these. A man after my own heart (i also have an unreasonable french car addiction) currently have a S1 106 Rallye as well (in white), a 306 Rallye in black, a Ph2 309 GTi 3 dr, a 405 Mi-16 Le Mans and a 205 1.4 XS. Not quite a car cave but certainly an indication i might have a problem
Oh wow Gordon is a man after my own heart. The things I would do to have a barn of old French tin. The s2 106 rallye for me is the one that got away I had an opportunity to buy a brand new one in blue brand new at a very discounted price and I walked away becuase of insurance costs and I realy wanted a 306 xsi at the time. Boy o boy do I regret that. Nice one jonny this is top 5 barn find for me.
My mate Tony took out a lamp post and some trees at around 6 feet off the ground in black one ! ....about to tag him in this video so he realizes how rare the one he wrote off was !
my first car was a bianca white series 1 M527 JKG and what an absolute screamer of a tu engine they had the big head and injection where ludicrous for a 1.3 saddened me to replace it with a gti engine after the throttle positioning sensor failed and it wasn't a separate part so the whole inlet manifold had to be bought at a cost of 1800 quid so in went the 1.6 16v still a great car with the 16v but the screaming 8v loved the abuse was so happy up the top and with spax nitrogen shocks it was an absolute peach miss it so much thanks for the walk down memory lane
And to think Top Gear made Paddy trash one these. Chris said it was a dog of a car but still. Could have been used as a donor for spares. It now sits in a museum?
Near me there is a 93 L Peugeot 306 xsi in black, parked up in a garage, the driveway is being reclaimed by nature, the guy is a total recluse 😢 I might post a letter through his door and see if he will sell it.
Almost my perfect garage! 106 Rallye ✅ Clio Trophy ✅ Renaultsport Clio ✅ All it needs is a Pug 205 GTI (1.6 or 1.9, not to fussy) and an Alpina B12 (circa. ‘96) & it’ll be complete! Great film. And what a SSG!
