@@dramatyst5661 that is such a dumb comment. People can dislike something without being able to do it better, especially if it is something so special than game creation or movies..so take your 5 childish thinking outa here boy.
Worth noting for OSRS that Runelite has several graphics plugins as well. The GPU plugin greatly expands draw distance and adds antialiasing and texture filtering. 117HD is an entire overall of the graphics approved by the developers, Jagex, that keeps the oldschool artstyle but brings in modern shadows, lighting, high framerates, and more.
i actually started playing gw2 because of your first impression video. Now i’m 200 hours in! and all i could say is thank you for playing gw2 and sharing your experience . If not for you i’d still be a sweaty League player lmao
@@unaddan I won't say I haven't seen toxicity or negativity but I do find the community aspect satisfying, still having a blast, this game's quality is awesome
I just wish Tera Online was still available.. :( Absolutely loved it and it was completely free. Huge world, lots to do, lots of players, very colorful and magical world.
RuneScape and old school RuneScape are easily #1 with guild wars 2 being an incredible mmo that is pretty much free base game. Final fantasy 14 is somewhat free, but will suck you in if you enjoy it and ultimately will not be free once you pay for the sub. Content wise, OSRS and RS3 have hundreds of hours of free content. Can’t ask for more than that!
@shorna-h8mappeal your ban! Jagex support may be able to help - I will say that since it is a free to play game for all ages, it’s important to stay age appropriate in the chat.
*Endgame in Final Fantasy 14 is very different than what most of what you will Experience as a New-player while Leveling.* *It will be Slow(maybe Boring) in the Beginning/Mid-Game, you will not see a noticable difference in difficulty until are atleast Lv 70+.* *When you are done with MainStory you will have to do A LOT of Unlocks to completly open up the Game for all types of Content.* *The Difficulty between Super Casual-Leveling Content and the Hardest-Content in the FF14 is very big - So be prepared.*
Good day to all. Thanks for your list and all the hard work up put into it. Currently, I went back to City of Heroes (Homecoming) and found it quite enjoyable ☺️😁
Great list! coming off a WOW stint and need something to fill the void, I have played GW2 since it released and I havent played osrs since it was just regular runescape.. I'm going to go back to both of them now and give them another shot!
The "full time job" aspect of Lost Ark is no joke: if you want to gather the ressources necessary to upgrade endgame gear you have to play daily with around 6 alt characters, it is really not to be undererstimated. While they did introduce catch-up systems to make it more beginner- or returning-player-friendly to get to that point, it is still quite an extreme grind that can otherwise only be skipped with HEAVY microtransactions.
Hey there! Thank you very much for your efforts on the MMO front. I have watched many of your vids and appreciate your time. I have played many many MMOs and co ops overt the years and recently i have been casually playing Adventure Quest 3D. Honestly its pretty good and they are doing a good job with putting in the work. It has many core features and is easy to play. Can I request a full review for as a Casual MMO player?
Albion really is fantastic. I tried it a few years ago when the tutorial was even shorter and things were slightly different and couldn't get the hang of it but I've had much less trouble this time around with guides and a guild and all that. Highly recommend! It's got a very similar feel to Oldschool Runescape.
I think the OSRS section understates how necessary membership is and overstates how much content f2p has. The balance is closer to 95% of the game being locked behind members, in my opinion. I do think there's a lot of fun to be had for the first time in f2p but going for high stats there outside of a self imposed challenge isn't really necessary.
A little bit biast but Wizard101 gives a very unique way to play to mmorpgs with turn based card gameplay and i'm surprised noone ever mentions it on this types of videos. (also f2p with subscription model)
Really digging these dives into other MMORPGs. In all these videos i've never seen you dive into RIFT and give it a try. Would be curious to see your opinion on it! Was a pretty flourishing game 10 or so years ago, but i hear its nearly dead these days.
@@Ravalion i literally said its dead at the end. Did you even bother to read the entire comment? And do you not even watch his MMO videos? Thats the point of the series is to explore dead MMOs. GTFO off my comment.
I would put Rs3 as a top Mmo with a *. If for any reason the suit dummies running Jagex let the devs do what they want for a change, then I could honestly give it a huge recommendation. Sadly the future looks grim. We can only hope a good company like Valve buys out Jagex at this point, but realistically, I don't see Rs3 ever coming back unless the players fight for it. If they actually brought back regular polls for Rs3, and actually listened, the game would sit nicely beside its older looking, yet younger brother.
I'm a little suprised not to see Everquest II on this list. It's still there, still free, and never has been pay-to-win. It is, however, pay to look awesome, with outfits, mounts, accessories, etc. in the store. The basic game, itself, is free.
Guild Wars 2 is expensive for a new player who has to pay for all the expansions and pay for inventory and character slots to fully enjoy the game. It's incredible how many people are fooled by this game.
with over 10k hours in gw2 and all expansions (except the last one) I fully support this comment. Arena net became a nightmare in the last couple of years and don't care about anything except woke community and money. The peak of their hypocricy is how much they care about their own game having in mind how bad they are in fixing bugs and the quality of the story which is literally imbecile level story generated by an AI (too bad if it's been produced by real ppl). I've quit the game like 6 months ago and do not plan on going back for now. LOTRO on the other hand seems a decent old schoold MMO
just decided to get into mmorpgs n while waiting for guild wars 2 to download watched this vid :D glad to see this will be a good intro keeping the rest of these in mind for later on
STO should be on that list while yes they have a pay to win mechanic its actually and interesting one as you legit can aquire the C store coins simply by playing the game, theresa a trick to it where you earn dilithium and use the dil exchange to trade for Zen coins allowing yourself to earn anything you honestly want in the game for free. and they offer several events a year that offer free t6 ships for free and ways to earn tokens for ship upgrades throughout the year. ive been playing for well over 8 years and still my favorite MMO today
Guild Wars 2 destroyed other MMOs for me... its just too good! :D I just can't play with classic mmos anymore (looking at you FF14), after GW2 did everything soooo well.
What do you mean "Don't let Albion's cartoony graphics put you off" ? Cartoony doesn't mean ugly. At least it has a style and doesn't try to be as photorealistic as possible.
I don't get why so many praise Lost Arks combat so highly. Yes, it's flashy, but it felt always somehow slow or "delayed" for me. It's a shame, because I like the world, the map completion, dungeons,... But it's just not fun to play. Give me Lost Ark with Diablo 4 combat, and my dreams would come true.
I am so tired of the RS3 slander... RS3 is no worse a "free to play mmo" than osrs as they both share the exact same subscription model. In fact; with a RS3 subscription you get osrs included in that subscription. Sure the monetization is much worse than osrs, but the p2w aspects of the game literally only affects the person paying the money. If you wanna play completely free whether that be with a mainscape account or ironman you will not be affected by the microtransactions unless you choose to participate. As far as PVE content goes RS3 is far and away the better game as it has so much more PVE content. Of course if youre looking for PVP then osrs is where youll need to be since RS3 has all but completely done away with PVP content. There really needs to be a more nuanced discussion on this subject, because the continuous RS3 bashing that is happening is only going to end up hurting both versions of Runescape.
The problem isn't that RS3 isn't good, sure you got the OS mega nerds that would bash on it, even if it legit was doing better. The problem is the constant push for MTX, while pushing game updates to the back line. Take all the money you want from TH it doesn't bother me, but take that money and put game updates as top priority. Its the greed people are mad at, they don't do the same to their other game.
While i disagree mostly with what you said here, how exactly did i bash rs3? I pointed out the good qualities, and some bad, and still offered runescape 3 as a runner up. But for someone wanting to try a new f2p mmo in 2024; osrs is almost always the better option because: 1. Consistent quality updates 2. Less predatory loot box mechanics that prey on gambling addiction 3. More communication from the mod team 4. 5x larger daily average playercount 5. Easier to navigate UI for new players I could go on, but osrs is definitely the better choice espeecially this year which hasnt even seen a major content update for rs3 and its already almost may.
@@WaydotsMy comment was not directed specifically at the comments you made in the video. I believe the criticism you have for RS3 is quite fair. Obviously RS3 gets a lot of hate from the OSRS community and I was expressing my exasperation with the abundance of “rs3 bad” takes when the two games really aren’t as different as what most people make out. You stated you disagreed with most of my original post. I obviously believe what I said to be true and accurate and I am curious as to how you disagree with my previous statements. We agree on the MTX which I believe has no place in RuneScape and is in fact predatory. I’m curious about how you disagree with the other statements I made however.
while yes it has a pay to play feature system you literally can play every major storyline for free the game as a whole is F2P but there are some things behind a paywall such as starfighter system ect.
Because the free to play trial features hundreds of hours of potential content. Its literally the same thing as guild wars 2 its just they call it "expansions" and "base game" but it's the exact same monetization premise and it's worth mentioning.
Thanks for the all content! You put together good videos. I tried to join your discord, but unfortunately you have a verification setup to join it and my phone number is linked to an old discord account that i cannot get into or even remember what i used so I can't join your account. Any suggestions? that verification thing is quiet the hurdle to have someone join your discord
Yeah sorry about that man, its important to have the verification step for us as otherwise the discord tends to get flooded with bots, people trying to advertise, etc.
i tried it wit shitty laptop...still playable with wifi. But i got burned out and stop playing xD. My main problem is that i always bunr up in many mmo and if i stop playing its getting harder to catch up with new story and patches and i hate that. So i love to stick to mmo that doesnt made a lot of chnages after new update or added new effing huge maps. My choice is always Swtor, GW2 and Lotro.
I would like to point out that FF14 isnt as generous as it may sound. The main sellign point compared to other mmos is the community and guess what you cant really access that with the free trial membership.
you forgot to mention that you HAVE to buy all the expansions if you want to have access to ALL the classes + sub specs of old classes and why the heck is FF14 online listed as F2P xD
I wonder why MIR4 isn't always included when I watch best F2P games in YT. It still has lots of players and best graphics/pvp mechanics than most of the mentioned games in here.
F2P is implying that the entire game is F2P(Or it should). FFXIV is not, its capped at a certain level and a lot of things are locked behind actually buying the game. That's like saying WoW is F2P even though the F2P is locked after level 20 and you can't do much on a F2P account. Not sure why people add it to their "F2P" list.
I still play Runescape 3 to this day and I love it but it's absolutely sad how P2W the game has become. It actually became even more p2w when they released some battle pass shit but they received so much critique they removed it and refunded people who put money into it and apologized because a major amount of people actually cancelled their memberships Atleast that was respectable but it still remains p2w. I am completely okay with cosmetics and stuff being buyable but when it comes to gaining xp it should never be buyable to climb the top ranks. In the long run this is what kills games. I still think it's a fun game no doubt but it struggles to attract new players and I think it's because it's hard to get into, has terrible F2P content and it has a pretty bad reputation. Because the game is so much about being as efficient as possible with everything it feels like it's not even worth playing in F2P. But the game is not bad. I think more OSRS players should give it a chance, it's a pretty flawed game but it receives more hate than it deserves. While many people quit because of the combat update, I continued to play and I really like it now. They really fixed the problems it had in the beginning. I also think they need to make the game feel more social and there's tons of dead content and minigames.
It's been P2W for a very long time. Sure it's become more P2W and that yak trak was insanely egregious, but lets not kid ourselves and say that's the only way you've been able to buy XP for real money. Treasure Hunter literally gives BXP and straight up XP. Yes you get keys for free, but you can pay for them and have been able to for 12 YEARS. It's been an option ever since it's inception (Squeal of Fortune). A Friend even maxed an account purely using SoF/TH just to see how much it would cost and at the time it was $13k. It's incredibly expensive yes but it's an option. I will personally never recommend RS3 to anyone any more. I quit when EoC released, I came back a year or 2 later to give it another chance and actually fell in love again. But over the years Jagex have struggled and struggled to make enough truly exciting content to even want to keep playing. I played last when Necromancy released because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to stay maxed. A new combat style after all these years! Plus you can level it via the skilling portion of the skill? It was kind of interesting, I won't lie, but at the end of the day, RS3 just doesn't feel that good to play any more. It's a shell of what it once was. And no, I didn't even get to 99 never mind 120, I got so bored because it was still RS3. There's dead content because there's no reason to do it. The power creep in RS3 made it so lower tier gear is completely useless unless you use it for, say, invention materials. In terms of minigames, are they: 1. Fun enough to play (not sure many people in RS3 are actually bothered about playing minigames with a clan/community at this point) 2. Rewarding enough to play If the answer is no to either or both of those, it is what it is. There's a reason OSRS keeps its playerbase and content doesn't truly die. There's always a reason to do stuff. Like barbarian assault, the fighter torso is still good. Like pest control, void is still strong. Barrows gear is still good. Like when they released Nex, did it mean Bandos is completely useless because of Torva? No, Bandos is still really good, but you also need it to make Torva. There's plenty of other examples. The power creep exists but its not NECESSARY to have the new gear. RS3 makes it close to necessary to have the BiS gear setups. And yes the new player experience is absolutely horrendous, one of the most confusing, unintuitive UI's to ever exist in an MMORPG (though I will say once you know how to use it, the amount of customization is very good), a generally not good tutorial experience and a massive paywall if you wanted to play completely F2P and buy bonds for membership. Not sure what the best GP/H is for a F2P player but have fun making the 140m or whatever it is now every 2 weeks. Recommending RS3, IMO, is a very risky thing to do. While there is a decent, fun game there, it's hidden under piles and piles of corpses of content that is dead, under the horrible economy and under the thumb of the higher ups who wanna milk as much as they can from the players while the game survives. There is a very good reason RS3 gets a bad rep.
You cannot just craft and PVE in Albion Online. You eventually have to go to higher level zones to gather crafting materials and this is where the game stops for you due to PK parties who kill you over and over just to have fun. Horrible game design.
Hey I'm in this video too! Hell yea go Albion! Good video and succinctly summarizes your various videos over the last few months. Looking forward to the FFXIV review!
so basicly in free to play mmo rpgs video there are only 3 free to play games, and rest of them isnt free to play xd, guild wars 2 is kind of free trial before buying expansions for 120 dollars
Every game on this list is definitionally free to play and widely agreed to be free to play by the majority of the mmo community Just because a game offers a subscription or extra content doesnt mean you cant play the game (and lots of it) for $0.00
honestly i don't like the guild wars 2.I just can't explain what this game needs :/.You might find this weird but I chose the necromancer class so I could raise skeletons or something cos I feel better when something is helping me out or something anywho I got rid of the game after downloading the game for three days since my net is super slow not sure if I will be back to that game. The only thing that I miss about the game is the time I took to customize my character lol damn he was cute :v
Yeah just her to recommend Blade and souls. After playing it 260 days od my life and not spending money. The story is getting bigger, the fres stuff is ridiculously, and the combat system is by far the best i had in any MMO! And i played everything since 2000.. So yeah there a lot more games then these in the video...
idk man i ve tried every game u mentioned but nothing beats albion online in MMORPG Experience, i have like 21 discords channel for albion, there just too many people to play with, its MMO ofc we need big communities, not solos
im still getting back into maplestory and other old games after all these years... like dragon saga too , idk why i didnt get hook by gw2 and all the mmo's uve mentionned in this vid
Unless speaking about private servers or really old games, there are no MMORPGs that are definitionally "free". Final Fantasy 14 is most definitely considered a F2P game with the option to purchase a subscription later on. There is hundreds of hours of content that can be completed within the free trial and its disingenuous to say otherwise, MOST mmo players consider FF14 to be "F2P"
Dude, wtf are you talking about? SWOTOR you have to purchase the suscription to have access to the full game Same goes for GW2 Lost Ark died bc everyone realized how much P2W was
for gw2 to be labelled "mmo" i think it completely ruins the definition of that word. mind numbing casual experience that you'll never miss. ubisoft tier map clearing trash missions. don't try it if you value your time even if just a bit.
GW2 is amazing mmorpg, BUT it always was so badly optimised, no matter what specs my pc is its always performing really bad, fps keeps jumping around like crazy
The only MMORPG I play is Warhammer Age of reckoning on the free server and it is a freaking ancient game. I want good old pvp driven game and none of these offer it. Maybe Albion at some extend. I am sad I can't try the first Guild Wars game, friends say it had best guild wars and 4vs4 arenas.
1. Tera Online (dead but still alive), currently on private servers like MT: The Dreams or Starscape, Tera is way more alive that was ever been in the last few years before official servers shut down. 2. Metin2, yep... another Gameforge title, and one that not many are even taken in serious... =)) / But still the game is hugely active on the official servers from Gameforge (not steam, no one play it on steam lol... xd ), and also there are private servers with like from 5 to 20k unique player /24h and like 1 - 2k online at any time, those are numbers that cam easily enter the top 100 steam chart, and is not one or two servers like that are quite a loot of them (Shira, Loranda, Elveron, Rodnia, Caliope, Azyrah Origins2, Alaska2, WoM2, Aerion2) and many others and hundreds if not thousands of smaller ones (PS: like 99% of them are in Europe and Turkey, most of them have English available, but keep in mind that they are targeting specific regions where the game is most played, so don't expect much...) 3. Silkroad Online
i am not sure if i would say RS skill system is unique, imo it is derivation of ultima online system also if you like skilling up noncombat way and dont mind ondschool graphics, look at wurm online (or solo-friendly version wurm unlimited)
Soooooo all the "Best Free to Play MMORPGs of '2024'" are all like 10 years old? Why dont we have anything new or fresh? Why isnt there a studio thats DOING IT RIGHT?
guys come back to champions online.. the last surviving superhero mmo.. it got tons of potential.. if only a company would buy them over an continue to develop.. the game has survived 12 years n still got some regulars!. Wish a company would just buy the game cause the lazy dev dey dont do much or add any real new content..
great video bro,for me the best f2p version would be FFA XIV in terms of content and Runescape the best in terms of restrictions,GW2 seems to me an incredible MMO and in fact I play it for about 2 years being f2p player but I consider that its restrictions of character and endgame content makes the experience once you reach level 80 is very limited, reason why I chose to buy the expansions.
