yeah, neil is right, we have a major advantage because we know both! You have the baby boomers who are really good with analog but never got used to computers, and then you have millennial and later who knows computers but they break down when the computers do. Whereas Generation X can do both. I admit that a millennial who served in the military will lessen this advantage a bit, but ultimately generation X has the edge here 🙂

I was an early millennial, yeah, it was toxic as shit, wherever society goes in the future we're not going back to the 90s, gen-x'ers were mentally diseased and intoxicated off the remnant excess of boomers. We're not going back to that, we're not justifying pointless decadence and mental illness for the sake of gen-x'ers. I should have been born a zoomer tbh, worst times of my life. There's nothing virtuous or necessary about how fucked up gen-x'ers are in the future, their literal claim to virtue is literal abusive alcoholic father vibes that they think somehow make the world a better place when it didn't at all. You can sum up gen-x with two words "woodstock '99".

On behalf of Gen X, I'd like to thank our Betamax, VCRs, and VHS, for teaching us how to troubleshoot and program before those were a thing. To Mr. Rogers, who taught us how to be good people. To our Uncle Mac; the great Richard Dean Anderson, for teaching us how to MacGyver things we needed and need until they're invented, every Monday night. To the Beastie Boys for teaching us to fight for our right. To our bikes, what ever model they maybe, that took us everywhere. From the malls to the playgrounds. And so that we may keep our agreed upon time to meet the kids from the neighborhood a street over, just so we can reenact scenes from the Warriors. Then sticking around learning to do first aid to the kid you just beat down. or beat you down. And to the garden hose that quenched our thirst after a long day of just being a kid. Special shout out to the street lamp that came on 5 minutes before sunset, reminding us to get home before the rents start looking for us.

No. You got it wrong. Gen X gave birth, (literally) to millennials, after millennials then it is Gen Z. Gen. Z are the younger siblings to millennials. I know this!! I am a Gen. @seancoyote actually, it varies depending on who's study you prefer. In 2023, a study by the Population Reference Bureau places births between 1981-99 as millennials, while other studies go one year higher to 2000. Calling someone born in the 80s a "millennial" doesn't make much sense because they were born so far away from the upcoming millennium. Now, 1995-2005 makes more sense. I feel extremely fortunate and extremely grateful to be born in '74. Im sure I speak for countless GenX here, we dont take any sh*t, we know what we're doing in life and we were forced to learn it early and quickly by way of our own hand. Stress and necessity made and drove us, it was sink or swim, we swam alone as kids and carry this through as adults. We are overlooked in the best way, we dont need or want support and we like it that way. We really looked up to our amazing grandparents who instilled classic old world values and a great sense of calm we may not have gotten from our parents. We readily disappeared to do our own thing at all ages and made it back for dinner and then headed out again until dark without our parents (or any other adult) fretting and calling the cops. I was a latchkey kid, I often skipped taking the bus after school preferring instead to walk home alone through fields and forests picking berries and climbing wild apple trees. I learned to cook very early, I grew up adventuring in the deep woods and wandering coastlines. I relentlessly mangled myself on asphalt without a helmet, ate dirt, climbed massive trees, bled a lot...a lot and further toughened up through years of contact sports like lacrosse and rugby. Ive had a job since 14 and tackled everything from heavy labour to high tech to fine wood-working to complex art pieces etc. I was eager to move out into the world immediately after high-school to further develop myself. I know which end of a screwdriver to use, Im confident, artistic, resilient, analytical, resourceful, independent, inventive, polite, reserved and fully self aware. I can interact with anyone with utmost confidence and composure and with utmost respect and empathy (for those who deserve it). Basically we developed the required life skills by our teens and well before the internet which has damn near ruined future Gens in so many ways that I honestly fear for our future. My wife is a Millennial, shes beyond amazing in every conceivable way, an honourary Gen X if there ever was one, IMO she's a far better version of myself. 😅 I'm of the opinion Millennials are the last capable Gen. Maybe we're not the best but we know who we are and exactly what we need to do and how to do it. Proud to be a Gen X.

The only time I really remember hanging around my generation was when I was in high school... and could relate very little with them then. Now... I look at my generation and all I see are a bunch of bored, keyboard sissies who need a good beating. P.s. I long for the days when people didn't meet/interact through a screen! Born with a computer in our hands?! Ummm..good sir, I don't think you're talking about the right generation. Millennials' years are from 1981-1996. Google wasn't around until 1998, and even then it took a while before almost everyone had a cell phone. And as a Millennial born at the start of 1990, I too experienced a childhood of going out til dark, playing with sticks & mud, drinking from the hose, & climbing on anything. Even fought back at a bully to the point where I had him running like a pansy. So these ideas that Millennials are somehow so helpless that it'll take a few things to have us just crumble is getting, how should I put this, Really Fricken Old!! Needless to say which aggrieved party my parents sided with. Not me. I'm unsure if that experience seeded any kind of psychological trauma, but I do know that, as an adult, I like having a laugh, am not easily offended, go above and beyond in my job, treat others with respect, don't require perpetual validation, and generally enjoy life. So if there *is* any trauma, I guess it's working.

That's because you're technically a Xennial, a cross-over microgeneration born between Gen X and Millennials, from the late 70s to mid 80s, (1977 to 1985).

@@user-wh5ir4fo4r Well, thanks! :) It's true that Xennials could be considered a subcategory of Gen X, but it's also its own thing, which stands to reason considering the huge differences technologically and economically between before and after the Reagan/Bush era (1981-1992). Those born in the 80s came into a very different world than the one that existed during the height of the worldwide hippie countercultural movement, and are very different people as a result.

Smartness isn't the ability to push a button and let your computer give you answers. Smartness is the ability to utilize knowledge and wisdom to better yourself and others. The amount of misinformation on the internet contradicts millennial's ability to "fact check" people. Are they facts? Do millenials know how to do true research with multiple proven sources? I doubt it.

I agree with most, except the first one. It is us (millennials) that is better at moving between digital and analog. Not by a whole lot, though.

Nah! That's not an exceptional IQ. Rather, it's having Google at their fingertips. Using technology required the non-tech ages to learn to adapt quickly. These millennial types never had to adapt. They were born within the tech age and lived in it since day one. For example, people born in metro areas grew up in that concrete jungle and know how to wrangle such busyness. It's natural to them. Country bumpkins, on the other hand, grew up in the woods or farmland areas with a traffic jam consisting of cows in the road and two oncoming tractors with wide farm equipment being trailered. Now, switch those people around in an instant. What do you have? 🤔 People going, "Um... people actually live this way?" 😮 Both types can learn the other ways of living eventually. Millenials fall under the group of seeing these two different worlds on their devices, imagining they could easily swap between either existences without issue. They live in a space consisting of imagined capabilities without truly having any. They haven't needed to adapt to anything of substance. So... giving them credit where none exists is unfair and only adds to their entitlement shenanigans. After all, test scores in academics have proven kids nowadays are worse off intellectually than kids of previous generations. They are behind in mathematics and writing. Have you noticed the blatant disregard of their public displays of utilizing the English language so piss poorly? Yep! So... there's that.

We don't get enough credit for our prognostication skills either, especially when it comes to tech. I'm remembering the days when not all of us had cell phones. Then work required us to have them. I said at the time, "You know this is going to turn from being able to get a hold of us at any time, to us being required to pick up every time they call, right?" and I was apparently the a-hole for thinking so. I remember the next year, telling the people in the meeting that giving our product away for free online in hopes of driving advertising wasn't a sound business plan. Again, I was the a-hole who didn't know anything. Finally, I remember when we first started allowing people to work remotely, saying that we weren't going to be able to limit it to a few exceptions. We're going to have to let everyone do this now. That was actually greeted more angrily than the previous two times. I have learned that there is a difference between using simple common sense and simply going with the zeitgeist. The former makes you right almost all of the time and results in few rewards, while the failures of the latter earn you a golden parachute and an office at corporate. Ain't that a b!tch.

We are the bridge between the analog and digital gen. We are the forgotten latch key kids. The last feral Gen. We MAYBE getting older but we will STILL knock your teeth down your throat if you run your mouth to us. We were the "either you are in or you are outside" Gen. The last Gen to drink from the hose and be home when the streetlights come on. The millennials may have the internet but we can read and write cursive, read an actual map and tell time by an analog clock. We are the quite Gen that ACTUALLY changed the world unlike boomers who could careless or the mills. Who just whine and cry till they get any kind of concessions to make them go away.
