The dancer is the fab actor John Travolta., You may know him from Pulp Fiction and it's a clip from the film Saturday Night Fever...pretty sure you'd love it, it's iconic now and was huge when it came out...I was 17 when the film was released...so when you see all us 'oldies' milling about and not give us a second glance, just remember that it was our generation that was getting down to disco, prog rock, punk, goth etc and it's still in our souls, even if some of us now limp with arthritis, inside our heads we are still dancing! 😊👍🇬🇧

Just an FYI - the producers of Saturday Night Fever wanted to cut that dance sequence out. John Travolta was so upset, he went to them begging with them to PLEASE PUT IT BACK IN!! And they did.. the rest, as they say... is history!

I am 59 Years old. I graduated High school in 1982. I am so glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's during a Golden Age of Music. There were so many great songs and artists from all genres. The artists would cross genres and also write songs for each other and perform together. EWe also had the oldies station that played great music from the 50; s and 60's. To answer some of your questions I danced to this song at school dances and parties. It was also played at the skating rink. everyone would get on the dancefloor, It was all about the music and having fun.

I wasn't very happy with the way he was treated he was a solo artist. the sad part is Barry was not on good terms with Andy when he died that is the saddest part of the entire thing. I’d be in NY at a disco Bee Gees non stop then five nights later I’d be in London at a disco Bee Gees non stop then I’d be back onboard ship again to NY and in the crew disco it’s be Bee Gees non stop again. Seriously not only was this MASSIVE on both sides of the Atlantic it was MASSIVE in the middle of the Atlantic. 😅

The BeeGees are originally from England/Australia. The one who sings so high is Barry Gibb and he was the oldest brother. He is also the only surviving brother. The others have all passed. They broke into the music scene in the 60s. They went 'viral' in the 70s and became the voice of Disco. I can't count how many hours I danced to their music. That was my high school years. They provided the soundtrack for the movie 'Saturday Night Fever'. They have also written music for a large contingent of other singers and bands. Very talented.

Mate, again, I am so pleased to see your desire for growth. Even more impressive is your understanding of depth within the music of the past. As a Swansea lad, I was gobsmacked to hear and learn about the music of old. I fell completely mad for EWF and Stevie Wonder. Wonder's 'Living for the City,' and Superstition are stunners, but only a drop in the bucket. Imagine being a wee lad in the 80s who stumbled into a second-hand record shop with a Stevie Wonder record titled 'Talking Book.' In it was a track called Maybe Your Baby. OMG! My head exploded! Thankfully, Stevie introduced me to a brilliant musical genre called FUNK. I am eternally grateful for that LP. The man is a GIANT.

1978 and I was 20 years old. From 1977 through to about 1980 or 1981, I would go to discos about 4 nights a week, getting there around 10 and dancing until 2 or 3 before heading home for a few hours sleep and then off to work for the day. It wasn't common for people to clear the dancefloor to watch someone dance, but it did happen sometimes, and we really did let ourselves go on the dancefloor and just let the music move our bodies. The dancing scenes are from the movie Saturday Night Fever (which has a great soundtrack album) and the dancer, John Travolta, did a lot of dance training for that role.

The Bee Gees had this album almost finished when the producer for this movie came to them about writing songs for it. What you are watching it’s the original music video (MTV was where you watch the latest music video and every new song had one. It was how hits were made back I the day) If you watch this video closely you’ll notice their young brother Andy Gibb who had his own hit records/songs is singing with them. From what I remember this happened right before Andy died. The dancing of John Travolta is from the movie and was part of the original music video. During the 70’s here in America, we had dance clubs or discos (they were called bars) with the most famous in New York City was Studio 54. All the celebrities went but it was a scandalous place at the end. Anyway trying to dance like they did on the movie was a thing. My favorite was a line dance of sorts called the hussle and you didn’t need a partner to dance it. 😊you should be dancing 🕺 yay 🎶
