We started from Springville Utah and followed the Pony Express Trail most of the way to the Dugway Geode beds. It was a 3 hour trip. 50 miles on gravel roads. We passed the Pony Express station and ancestors of the wild mustangs used for the hard rides. We saw thousands of grazing sheep, several sheep dogs and a cowboy sheep herder. The desert was covered with miles of lavender flowers from recent plentiful rainfall. We collected geodes and cut them the next day on a $60 tile saw. We show the cut geodes we collected and the tools we found that worked well for finding geodes.

It's crazy to me how many people take the pony express trail to get to the geode beds. Go park at Topaz Mt. where the pavement ends. then take an atv/dirtbike/4x4 (skilled off-road driver could take a car/van) from there. Follow the dirt road that goes on the west side of the range and it spits you out at dugway geode beds. Way faster, way less dirt, way more fun! (you can stop along the way and get fluorite, Apache tears, Garnet, Topaz, and sunstones)

I think that’s the greenest I have ever seen that valley. But green or dry, it still has its own beauty, I love it.

Finding geodes was exciting for sure. I did gold prospecting for a time and on my first day with my 2 inch dredge I found two nice nuggets. One was the size of my little finger nail and the other was the size of my thumb nail. THAT was exciting!

I was going to say that you should make earrings out of the big ones, but that sounds so trollish. Anyway, thanks for sharing those shots of the beautiful scenery and those mustangs. Looks like you had a great time.

Not sure what pit we were at and do not know what the yellow material is. We had a time trying to find the same place as last year. Easy to get "lost" there. :)

*green grass everywhere* you call that a desert? 😂
@perryrush5378
@perryrush5378 3 года назад
I know, right? I love the desert in the wet spring time with all the flowers springing up. I lived in the Mojave Dessert and the beautiful spring flowers gave way to dry brown thirsty vegetation as summer heat shriveled most every thing. :)
