Yes, I’m really the voice and operator of Geoff Peterson (and Sandra the Rhino 2.0, all of the phone calls, celebrity flies, the entire Shy Fellas band and more!). And this is REALLY my YT Channel! Pretty much every Geoff and Craig interaction was unscripted, and this moment is no exception. For several nights in a row Craig was busting Geoff's balls (pun intended) about not having lips to blow a harmonica. So during this segment, while puppeteering/voicing Geoff, I'm also flagging down our props guy, Eddie, to run and get a harmonica. When Craig hears the harmonica sound coming from Geoff's mouth, his look of surprise is genuine. Here are some of the other characters I played on the show: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Pr_aMAqlLg.html
Reminiscing the show. I was a Letterman fan but switched over to Craig. You guys were the best kept secret for the longest time. It ended too soon but it was a damn good run.
I miss you guys so much in Late Night. My favorite clips are when y'all would get into a squabble. Thank you for all the laughter as Geoff Petersen. Stop by Flappers or The ice House once in a while please.
I love how you can tell they're both having the times of their lives. No soulless acting or awkward moments, just 2 dudes having an absolute blast on live TV
@@checkoutmyyoutubepage hey snowflake, I literally just saw a clip about 15 years ago of Craig saying he should be going after the politicians and trumps of the world, so even Craig doesn’t agree with you
Many people think Geoff’s mouth movements were voice activated, but in reality I had to flip a switch every time to make the mouth move. Every. Single. Word. There were also separate controls for his right and left arms, head swivel and blinking eye lights. Someone asked recently if the harmonica was pre-recorded. No, that was a real harmonica. All the instruments I used were real. So I learned to move quickly between the remote control and whatever instrument was being used in the moment. All while making stuff up! “Were the phone calls pre-recorded?” Again, cannot emphasize this enough: it was all made up on the spot, in the moment. I never knew what voice I would do until the moment Craig said, “I wonder who might call now…” 📞 While all of this is going on, I’m also using a second remote control to operate and voice Sandra the Rhino on occasion. Plus, I’m voicing all of the phone calls, celebrity flies, every member of the Shy Fellas band, and Secretariat’s inner voice. Whew! 💀 -JRT Learn all about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MVjGMvfeV9o.html
Josh, you and Craig were improv comedy gold! My word, man, the chemistry, the wit, the rapid-fire responses, so underappreciated by the masses who don't matter and adored by those of us who understand that you made Geoff the penultimate expression of Craig's quest to deconstruct the dead art form of the late night talk show. You have such a gift, expressed so well which continues to bring so many laughs and smiles. Thank you.
I honestly don’t know if I come back to any one clip of ANY show more often than this one. It instantly brightens my day. I would give anything to witness a Craig and Geoff reunion. You two are an all time comedy duo. Thank you JRT
Hey I used to watch your og lets play channel with your pal, one of the first channels I actually subbed to. Fancy crossin' paths with you all these years later.
This has to be one of the best pure unplanned comedy moments of all time. Just seeing Craig absolutely lose it with laughter and hearing Josh genuinely laughing as they ad libbed this is just absolute gold.
In 2012, I was 8 months pregnant and watched this video. I laughed so hard my water broke and I gave birth later that day. 100% true story. I have a healthy 5-year-old boy!
This was one of the best 5 minutes of back-and-forth in late night show history, I swear. The timing, the callbacks, the unexpected elements... Just the chemistry that made this work... which is so great because Craig is essentially talking to a piece of plastic and metal that's killing him with laughter. I watched this clip dozens of times in years past, glad I found it again. Huge respect for your talent and wit, Josh, from a fellow Clevelander!
Fellow Clevelander here as well! I have watched this video on RU-vid more than any other, and it never fails to make me laugh. My favorite part is at 3:03 when Geoff barely gets out, “we throw beads we go swimming“ the second time, and Craig loses it - he’s all the way over to the left laying on his desk laughing uncontrollably and trying not to. The whole thing reminds me of study hall in high school, And how we were constantly trying to not be heard when we were laughing so hard.
Your rapport with him, and your ability to be hilarious through an animatronic are both something to behold. Thank you for the many laughs you and Craig gave so many.
I remember watching the Craig Ferguson show as a kid. There were very rare occasions when I'd be up late and my mom would let me watch a few minutes before shoeing me out of the room when the humor got too "grown up". Geoff was one of our favorite parts of the show, and we still quote him to this day. Such an iconic character, thank you for giving him life :D
Fam, my big brother put me on to the show when I was in middle school and almost all jokes I made for years was influenced by this show. Sorry to all my teachers and classmates about all the sex jokes before my balls dropped 😂😂😂😂
The fact that Geoff arrived on the late late show truly made it 10 times better, when Craig was kind of burning out and you, Mr Thompson, definitely helped him out, making him laugh and bringing more fun. Your touch is unique, when I am watching this bit, I can tell improvising and laughing while having control over one's voice is no piece of cake. And I was so upset when Russel Brand poured water on Geoff, I mean, man this robot is a peace of art in itself, have some respect
My daughter & I watched this when it originally aired. Everyone was laughing so hard that we were all crying - Me, my daughter, Craig, Geoff, the audience, & there's no way the rest of the production crew weren't laughing their asses off at this, esp. being in the same room w/ this joyful madness! I even burned this clip to a comedy cd I made. Thank you to all of you who were responsible for bringing us one of the best late night shows ever, & for giving me & my daughter yet another reason for Mom-daughter time & memories that'll last a lifetime!
This is something that's just perfect, from beat to beat. It was a risk - Craig doubtless wanted someone to bounce off of, but finding a comedian who can bounce that naturally is rare, and finding someone like Mr. Thompson who can ad-lib and match Craig's humor perfectly must've been like finding a big diamond in a Safeway parking lot. This show was the funniest thing on TV for about 4 or 5 years.
I don't know why, but every time Craig would ask Geoff to do something like pick up a piece of paper or read an email, Geoff/Josh's response "How dare you" would get me every time. They had amazing chemistry, and I really consider Craig and Geoff to be one of the great comedy duos. Oh alright, Secretariat was pretty cool too.
@@mightymartianca It's funny because the guys who played Secretariat were the ones who brought Geoff from Grant Imahara's workshop, as seen in an earlier video.
The late late show with Craig Ferguson was the talk show equivalent of that feeling when you're awake Way too late with your friend and you're so tired that everything makes you laugh
Look up the compilation video of Ricky Gervais on the show. The two of them are so damn funny together, I have no idea how this show wasn't the best rated late night program on TV.
My mom was very protective about what I could watch as a kid but she was a huge Craig Ferguson fan and would sometimes let me stay up and watch the show with her. I have so many memories of being 8 or so years old and wandering into the living room way past my bedtime to watch this and laugh with my mom. Thanks for the happy memories
I watched this scene when it aired while working overnight security at a construction site on a tiny 8-inch portable TV in my car. I remember having to run out of my car to the portajohn because I almost peed myself. Thanks for all the laughs, i still think this is the best late late show duo to date.
I love how he sets up the harmonica bit with “next you’re gonna make me play the harmonica” meaning he literally can’t. Later he then plays the harmonica unprompted
@@thejrtshow well played sir, well played. When you can crease a comedian like that on improve, that's talent. If he could've held a straight face on that, you know he's flat out psychotic! I've never watched this, it's just a random suggestion but I absolutely cackled like a fool.
As a British guy who was likely quite young when this aired, I'd never seen this before. However easily one of the funniest bits I've seen in a while. I cried laughing at the final harmonica.
@thejrtshow that Brooklyn r2d2 bit you did kills me everytime. Crazy that you've VA'd in so many shows, just can't tell because the voices are so damn on. Youre up there with Dee Bradley and Tom Kenny my guy.
@@thejrtshow I keep coming back to this clip. You two were hilarious here. The whole show is great but this will always be my favorite clip of all the episodes.
Feels like a lifetime ago, I was living in a house the size of a one bedroom apartment's living room, without cable/WiFi, phone only made limited calls/texts, no job and starting a long journey of alcoholism. The only time I would forget about all the pain I had in my life was this little 1 hour long block at 1230am, the show would barely seep through one of my 3 mostly static channels, I looked forward to it all day and was sad after it ended. Thank you guys so much, I might not have made it to today without it.
I love Conan, but his show is so much more sterilized and "controlled" in comparison. I always watch his "Conan scraps" and his interactions with Andy is just awesome...they are much funnier off the air than when everything is scripted! Craig perfected that approach here...you KNOW this was unscripted.
@@turonlumpia Believe it or not, a switch on the remote control unit was used to move Geoff’s mouth. So every. Time. That. I. Spoke. I. Had. To. Move. The. Switch. In. Time. To. My. Own. Mouth.
I’m so glad this randomly popped up in my recommended. This was Late Night TV at it’s peak. You guys were such a great duo and Craig is a seriously underrated former talk show host
This show was the one time I got to truly laugh each and every night. I truly want to thank you for the inventive comedy that was mostly intuitive, the two of you truly brought joy to so many. I wouldn’t have even started my career path had it not been for you and Craig, so truly, thank you. ❤
Holy cow I REMEMBER THIS EPISODE!!! I used to watch this show with my mum growing up, it was our thing. Thank you so, so much for the lovely memories Geoff aka Josh.
When I lived by myself for the first time in 2010 for college, this show brought me so much comfort when I felt homesick. I remember laughing so hard I cried during this. I really miss these two.
These guys were in such a groove at the end. It was pure organic comedy, pulled out of thin air on any topic or pretense. None of the current late night stiffs, with their armies of gag writers, lame props, and cheap laughs can touch it .
Josh, you turned a wonderful segment into comedy gold with that final harmonica response. It was the epitome of how this show used running jokes and absurdist logic, and it was brilliant.
Oh Josh is a fucking genius. Always has been. Pure comic genius. I honestly am disturbed knowing they're not on latenight anymore. I'm not sure why. It kind of scares me off TV when tumblr fan fic authors get more play over real talent. :/
My favorite late night show by far. Craig had no axes to endlessly grind; he only wanted to entertain us. I loved how he always tore up his prepared questions. I truly, truly miss these guys.
You and Craig got me through a lot of very, very hard days in the early 10s. Even the worst parts of life don’t seem quite so bad when you know you’re going to laugh yourself to sleep every night. ❤
I went through some crappy stuff a couple years ago and I binged as much Geoff Peterson as I could because it made me happy. So thank you for bringing this to life so I could stumble on it in my more difficult times!
Man, whenever I'm feeling a bit down I'll toss on some late late show and it always resets my mood. It's like comfort food to me, thanks for keeping these on the internet, you two were the best late night pair of all time.
It's going to be pretty grim; to witness the 'Bravestarr' Dark Child, to get crucified by Pastor Sterling. Dark Child gets crucified, by when he gets both of his eyes put out, with a dual enchanted dagger.
In the future; there's not going to be another me, once Arnold Schwarzenegger, discourages every American white man from having sex with their Japanese wives.
JRT was a great sidekick to Craig, and actually there are many times he was funnier than Craig and Craig was laughing hysterically. i love and miss both of you guys. Edit: Thx for the likes. It shows how many people actually still watching and missing too
@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 ok, so, here’s my question: Where in the US is the expression “balls” used? I always thought it was just a Bobby from Supernatural thing. Sorry to saddle you with this but if you have an moment and know the answer I’d appreciate it. Cheers
I remember watching you guys as a teenager, this brought back some great memories. Whatever the word is for talk show sidekicks that were supposed to make the show funnier, you were easily the best one.
I saw this episode, and I remember this bit! I was barely out of college at the time, but I still stayed up late to watch Craig and Geoff. This bit had me rolling.
Gwen, I too lost my mother recently a couple of months ago to pancreatic cancer, and I know how you feel. That cathartic laughter is a healing force, helping you to feel human again and enjoy life. Hang in there, and know that you are not alone.
I watch this clip every time a day goes to hell or when my BPD kicks into overdrive. So I've seen it more than a few times. That said: honest joy, when found, is one of humanity's greatest gifts. This clip is a grand representation of that fact. JRT, wherever you are, mate, I hope you're well. Craig, also. It must be nice to know your career already entails a legacy that both heals and helps in its own fabulously ironic way.
Sp wonderful to see the two of you after all these years!!! I used to stay up way too late watching the show and then be tired at work the next day. I laughed 'til I cried.
This video was " suggested" on RU-vid and I'm glad it was. But as a reminder of what awesome talent was on hand every night that I took for granted. How far late night has fallen ! You always brought it and I thank you and Craig.
And that was what made it so magnificently and preposterously hilarious. What’s funnier than two intelligent, creative, and really funny people playing off each other’s ridiculous and random remarks and having as much fun doing that as we had watching them do it?
From when I was about 8 years old to the day Craig left, My older sister and I used to stay up late and watch you and Craig on the little CRT TV we had in our bedroom,(which we definitely weren't supposed to be doing, lest you think my parents were letting their 8, and 12 year old stay up until midnight watching late night talk shows), your style of humor has always resonated with me and here I am over 15 years later watching you two once again and laughing just as hard. Thanks for putting your heart and soul into making others laugh, you helped build some of my best memories with my sister.
Pure, unscripted comedy gold!!! You don't know what you've got til its gone. Somehow I didn't watch this show much when it was airing, but thanks to RU-vid I have rediscovered it, and I absolutely cannot get enough! J.R.T. and Craig were simply one of the best improv. comedy duos ever. Thanks for the many times you have made cry from laughing!
The past is the past. But it's right here too. That's the joy of video media, especially digital stuff. 'Will happen, happening, happened.' to quote BMO.
I know its a been a while since Craig walked away from late night and since this video was first posted. But this always reminds me of one thing not enough of us are having - a great cleansing, tear-filled laugh that incapacitates us for just a few minutes. This whole country needs that right now.
No truer words have been spoken especially for 2018. Sad to say we might go into WWIII soon with such a failure as our president right now. Or at least that's where I see the U.S. is going.
John Gault It is the president who chooses who goes into his/her office if they are failing it is the presidents responsibility to correct them. As citizens of the United States of America we are here to criticize their work as the President and his/her office. But we should also work hard for a brighter future. Also have a good laugh.
Josh, listening to your discussion about how you became the voice of Geoff made this video all the more memorable and entertaining. Keep up the good work and I'm confident there are millions of more moments of joy that will you will bestow upon us. Thank you!
