Keeping up the appearances, Heartbeat... Thank you Mr. Hughes, you have entertained my whole family during the evenings and morning with other roles we spotted you during these decades... Thank you... Onslow, we will miss you :...(
RIP from St .Louis Missouri USA. Grew to love the show and especially Onslow. It is still shown on PBS after all these years. I hope your famous sweater and hat are stored safely somewhere at the BBC. Again RIP and thanks for the laughs.
Geoffrey was without a doubt one of the finest character actors in the entire history of TV programing ... I was crushed when I learned of his passing away. My life was undoubtably made richer by his work. I have always considered his caricature of Onslow as a personal hero. In my opinion Onslow is the kind of brother-N-law everyone should have.
Living in the US, sadly I was unaware of this terrific actor, until discovering Keeping Up Appearances a few years ago and his other works later on. I am so sad to hear of his death and that he had been fighting such a horrible disease, He leaves us with so much to still enjoy from his work, but he will be missed.
Onslow, Onslow what can I say. You and the numerous characters you played have all gone with you old boy. You and all of them will sadly be missed but the wonderful memories will live on. Thanks for all the special moments of laughter and joy. RIP good old boy!
The voice of Paul from Yellow Submarine left us all on this very day, but I didn't find out till the year after. The year after that, I found a picture of animated Paul weeping at Geoffrey Hughes' grave. It almost made me cry. And the rest is silence.
"AWWWW, NICE" Dearest, Geoffrey, you, too, are greatly missed. Thank you for the many memories and years of laughter. Loved always and NEVER forgotten. Keep 'em laughing in Heaven, mate.
I loved Geoffrey's character Onslow on "Keeping up Appearances". He seemed to be so down to Earth. As a kid, I didn't know it but I was a fan of his through the "Yellow Submarine" movie (Geoffrey voiced Paul McCartney's voice). RIP Geoffrey.
Whilst I enjoyed everything that Hughes did, his portrayal of Vernon Scripps in Heartbeat always brought a massive smile to my face; He is massively missed.
I remember him in Coronation St where he was Minnie Caldwell's lodger. He was great in "Heartbeat" as Vernon Scripps as well as the lovely Onslow. Its great that we have repeats. No one could play these parts as well.
In coronation street as Eddie Yates he was naughty, lazy, glutinous and above all very kind. His portrayal of communicating kindness and appreciation of others was beautiful. The Coronation street writers gave him a great part and he more than did it justice.
I loved Onslow i enjoyed his humor you will be sadly missed thank god we all can still enjoy reruns of all your shows, keep them laughing up there. rest in peace
Yes a great lovely man who is missed by all my aunt's husband is very Much like him he often gets called you look like that man of the television 😀 ..x
Lived on the Isle of Wight where I spent 30 years, used to see him many times on the cowes ferry, also another great Michael Sheard (Mr Bronson from Grange Hill) lived closed to Geoffrey.
As I know it it was at a home in Newport. Me nan and granddad also passed away there. There was a pond there with carp and we fed them digestive biscuits.
