Event info:
Pope Pius XII (1939-58) has been described as "the most dangerous cleric in modern history". He was silent -- his critics argue -- and did nothing during the Holocaust to help the Jews. Others disagree, claiming that he helped save a larger percentage of Jews in Rome than were rescued in any other city under German occupation, and that altogether he prevented thousands of Jewish deaths throughout Italy and across Europe. Was Pius part of a broad Roman Catholic anti-Semitic tradition, subordinating compassion for the Jews to his goal of increasing the power of the papacy? Or a good man doing his best in difficult circumstances?
Both sides are passionate about their positions on this controversial historical figure, but who is right?

The German Catholic clergy, particularly in Bavaria, stood up against the Vatican-Nazi alliance and suffered greatly because of that. They are true heroes that should not be forgotten. And to anyone who dares say that all Catholics supported Hitler, let the story of the German clergy stand as proof that is not true. So, as a Catholic, it is not right to defend someone like Pacelli, who held Hitler's hand, when there were many other Catholics standing against that same devils, Pacelli and his band of Nazis.

It annoys me when people make the lame excuse that the Germans would have assassinated or otherwise silenced Pius XII had he spoken out. Even if they had been prepared to do so, if the leader of the Catholic Church is deterred by fear of martyrdom then what hope is there for any of the rest of us mere mortals? The "moral cowardice" of a MORAL AUTHORITY such as the Pope is really, and at very best, just bare-bones cowardice.

Robertson is an anti Catholic from years ago, in the tradition of the English Protestant establishment. Truly, Pius XII was a righteous gentile, which is why the Nazis were calling him a “Jew loving” cardinal before he became pope. At the end of the Second World War, Pope Pius XII was universally acclaimed for his courageous leadership. The Jewish historian Pinchas Lapide acknowledged that the Church saved the lives of 850,000 Jews in Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, and Hungary. Rome’s chief rabbi, Israel Zolli, converted to Catholicism. To thank and honor Pope Pius XII, he took the name Eugenio, after Eugenio Pacelli, the pope's birth name. When Pius XII died, Israel’s Foreign Minister Golda Meir wrote, “When fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade of Nazi terror, the voice of the pope was raised for the victims.” Leonard Bernstein asked the audience at a performance of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for a minute of silence “for the passing of a very great man, Pope Pius XII.” Within five years after the pope’s death, however, efforts began to calumniate Pius. Soviet disinformation sought to discredit him. But it was especially the 1963 play, The Deputy, by Rolf Hochhuth, an unknown clerk at a German publishing house and a radical leftist, that painted Pius XII as a pro-Nazi anti-Semite who was silent while 6 million Jews were murdered. The actual record did not stop the slander. Robert Graham S.J., a scholar of the period, was asked to explain why. With all the gruesome information coming out about the Nazi death camps in the 1960s and 1970s, someone “needed to be blamed for the Holocaust.” And a pope fit the bill.

ADOLPH HITLER SAID: Hitler was also ready to discuss with the Bishop his views on the Jewish question: "As for the Jews, I am just carrying on with the same policy which the Catholic church has adopted for fifteen hundred years, when it has regarded the Jews as dangerous and pushed them into ghettos etc. Bernhard Stempfle: Was a Catholic priest and journalist. He helped Adolf Hitler in the writing of Mein Kampf. He was murdered in the Night of the Long Knives. Stempfle entered the priesthood in 1904. He joined the Hieronymite order (the Poor Hermits of Saint Jerome) in Italy. Hitler himself stated, "I learned much from the Order of the Jesuits. Until now, there has never been anything more grandiose, on the earth, than the hierarchical organization of the Catholic church. I transferred much of this organization into my own party." Walter Schellenberg, former chief of Nazi counter-espionage made this statement: "The S.S. organization had been constituted by Himmler according to the principles of the Jesuit Order. Their regulations and the Spiritual Exercises prescribed by Ignatius of Loyola were the model Himmler tried to copy exactly. Himmler's title as supreme chief of the S.S. was to be the equivalent of the Jesuits' 'General' and the whole structure was a close imitation of the Catholic Church's hierarchical order." Franz von Papen, another powerful Nazi, who was instrumental in setting up the concordat between Germany and the Vatican had this to say: "The Third Reich is the first world power which not only acknowledges but also puts into practice the high principles of the papacy." If you are not aware of what a concordat is, a concordat is an agreement between the Vatican and a government. As far as the Vatican is concerned, that government that signed the concordat has now become a part of the government of God, and the Vatican fully intends to stabilize that government, give it divine protection, and give it international protection. As James Carroll wrote in “Constantine’s Sword,” his 2001 study of the Church’s relationship with the Jews, “The Reichskonkordat effectively removed the German Catholic Church from any continued role of opposition to Hitler. More than that, as Hitler told his cabinet on July 14, it established a context that would be ‘especially significant in the urgent struggle against international Jewry

@@HebrewsvJohnv Perhaps you should concern yourself with truth rather than a distorted picture. This article answers your assertions. (In 3 parts as it cannot be posted in one piece) Pius XII: The Pope Who Defied Hitler George J. Marlin SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, 2022 PART 1 of 3 At the end of the Second World War, Pope Pius XII was universally acclaimed for his courageous leadership. The Jewish historian Pinchas Lapide acknowledged that the Church saved the lives of 850,000 Jews in Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, and Hungary. Rome’s chief rabbi, Israel Zolli, converted to Catholicism. To thank and honor Pope Pius XII, he took the name Eugenio, after Eugenio Pacelli, the pope’s birth name. Soviet disinformation sought to discredit him. But it was especially the 1963 play, The Deputy, by Rolf Hochhuth, an unknown clerk at a German publishing house and a radical leftist, that painted Pius XII as a pro-Nazi anti-Semite who was silent while 6-million Jews were murdered. Since 2020, the full Vatican archives on Pius XII have been opened to scholars. This summer, two books have appeared based on that archival material: The Pope and the Holocaust: Pius XII and the Vatican Secret Archives by German historian Michael Hesemann; and The Pope at War: The Secret History of Pius XII, Mussolini, and Hitler by Brown University professor David I. Kertzer. Hesemann’s meticulous research reveals Eugenio Pacelli to have been an outspoken critic of the Nazis throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In a 1935 public letter to the bishops of Cologne, for example, Pacelli called the Nazis “false prophets with the pride of Lucifer.” He was also the principal author of Pius XI’s encyclical, written in German and released on Passion Sunday in 1937, With Burning Concern (Mit brennender Sorge), which condemned Nazi racial theories: Whoever exalts race, or the people, or the State or a particular form of State, or the depositories of power, or any other fundamental value of the human community. . . .above their standard value and divinizes them to an idolatrous level, distorts and perverts an order of the world planned and created by God. The Nazis called Pacelli a “Jew-loving” cardinal. After learning of the 1938 Kristallnacht attack on Jews, he formed a plan that would enable 200,000 people “who were considered Jews by the Third Reich, to emigrate and, thereby, to save them from further persecution.” If the various governments issued visas, the Vatican would cover the relocation costs. Although Pacelli labored mightily, Hesemann reports that, because of “a lack of cooperation from governments,” only a few thousand were able to emigrate. One month after the outbreak of the Second World War, Pacelli, now Pope Pius XII, released his first encyclical, On The Unity of Human Society, which called on all people of goodwill to oppose “two pernicious errors”: racism and statism. He bluntly stated that the Nazis “abandoned Christ’s cross for another which brings only death.” The New York Times declared on its front page: “Pope Condemns Dictators, Treaty Violators, Racism.” The American Israelite praised the pope’s “denunciation of Nazism.” Pius XII with Allied troops, 1944 In his annual Christmas radio addresses, the pope regularly condemned Nazi barbarism. A 1941 New York Times Christmas editorial declared: “The voice of Pius XII is a lonely voice. . . .[He] is about the only ruler left on the continent of Europe who dares to raise his voice at all. [He] left no doubt that the Nazi aims are also irreconcilable with his own conception of Christian peace.”

@@HebrewsvJohnv Part 2 of 3 Pius XII gave his blessing to German resistance groups dedicated to deposing Hitler; their cause was morally sound because “we had to wage war against the powers of evil.” On several occasions, Hitler ordered Pius to be kidnapped and Curia members executed. Although Hitler was talked into rescinding those orders, Pius prepared for the worst. He signed a Letter of Resignation - to take effect if he were taken prisoner. In that case, the cardinals were to travel to neutral Portugal and hold a conclave to elect a new pope. After the Germans occupied Rome in October 1943, Heinrich Himmler ordered that the “Final Solution” be implemented there. “All 8,000 Roman Jews,” Hesemann reports, “regardless of age, sex, or state of health, were to be deported to the Reich ‘for the purpose of liquidation.’” Hesemann discovered that on October 25, 1943, Pope Pius ordered in writing that “religious institutes and even the catacombs be opened for the Jews who were being persecuted by the Nazis.” The pope sent food from the Vatican to feed thousands housed in Catholic institutions. He spent his own money on medicine, clothes, and other necessities; and he posted guards to protect compounds. Hundreds of Jews were hidden on Vatican territory including the pope’s summer residence, Castel Gandolfo. “Of the 7,705 Jews living in Rome on June 5, 1944, the day of the liberation by the Allies,” documents indicate 6,681 owed their rescue directly to the pope. But as in his previous works on Pius, Kertzer appears to be a historian in search of data to confirm a pre-conceived conclusion: that Pius XII did nothing to protect Jews. In a review of Kertzer’s The Popes Against the Jews, prominent American philosopher Russell Hittinger noted that the author failed to read papal condemnations of anti-Semitism, because “reading the public documents would cut against his thesis at every point.” Kertzer’s latest book has similar problems. About half the text traces the decline and fall of Mussolini, Hitler, and the House of Savoy. The other half portrays Pius XII as a weak, indecisive, incompetent, and unbending tyrant who turned a blind eye to the Holocaust and looked favorably on Fascists and Nazis. As the archival material indisputably shows, this is utterly preposterous. Kertzer even goes so far as to claim that Pacelli was not a favorite of the Cardinals at the 1939 conclave. He falsely asserts that it took three ballots for Pacelli to get the votes required. The conclave that elected Pacelli was the shortest since 1623. He received forty-eight votes on the second ballot, but as Hesemann rightly observes, “he insisted on a third ballot, in which he received sixty-one of the sixty-two votes, only his own went to another candidate.” Kertzer’s arguments rest on facts such as that Pius XII dealt with the head of the Italian state, King Victor Emanuel, and the head of the government, Benito Mussolini, to protect Catholic interests; he argued for peace, not war; and he used them as intermediaries with Hitler in attempts to broker a peace agreement. Kertzer is appalled that Pacelli, as Cardinal Secretary of State and as pope, dealt with Hitler’s government and had “secret” meetings with German envoys. Pius XII and his predecessor, Pius XI, recognized Hitler was evil, of course, but they negotiated with the German state to secure the Church’s freedom to educate youth and appoint bishops - and for German Catholics to practice their faith freely. Popes reaching out to rogue states is hardly unusual. To protect the flock, in the 1920s Pius XI attempted, on at least three occasions, to establish diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. Kertzer, to be sure, does not mention Pacelli’s documented efforts to save 200,000 “non-Aryans” after Kristallnacht. Or that, as Pius XII, he supported the resistance movement that sought to overthrow Hitler. And Kertzer dismisses Nazi plans to kidnap Pius XII as “Allied propaganda.” He asserts “there is no evidence the pope ever directed Church institutions to take in Jews,” a false statement, as archival materials show beyond all doubt. Throughout The Pope at War, the author disparages Pius XII’s public statements and speeches. He complains the pope used “opaque theological language and moralistic bromides” and spoke in a “monotonous tone devoid of any hint of spontaneity.” Pius XII’s sermons are - in this view - too long; his language “characteristically convoluted” or ambiguous. And the pope’s Christmas radio talks are dismissed as “long and of . . . rarified language.” The pope’s messages may be too opaque for Kertzer but were not so for millions of Catholics and Jews throughout the world at the time, including the New York Times, which was owned by a Jewish family. They understood the pope’s message and hailed him for his courage. Pius XII gave a radio address on August 1, 1941, for example, that is far from convoluted or ambiguous: A great scandal is presently taking place, and this scandal is the treatment suffered by the Jews; that is why I desire that a free voice, the voice of a priest, should be raised in protest. In Germany, the Jews are killed, brutalized, tortured because they are victims bereft of defense. How can a Christian accept such deeds?. . . . These men are the sons of those who 2000 years ago gave Christianity to the world. Despite such words, Kertzer’s primary accusation against Pius XII is his alleged “silence.” Kertzer claims, without evidence, that the pope was intimidated by Hitler and Mussolini and “clung firmly to his determination to do nothing to antagonize either man.” Hence, he concluded that “as a moral leader, Pius XII must be judged as a failure.” Pope Pius XII was far from silent, but he was certainly cautious. He instructed local bishops that they must “deliberate whether and to what extent the dangers of retaliatory measures and forms of pressure. . .make it seem advisable. . .to exercise restraint ad maiora mala vitanda [in order to avoid greater evils.].” There were sound reasons for caution.

@@DD-bx8rb No need, you shall know them by their fruits... The fact of the matter is the two most horrific slave trades we have witnessed, such as the Arab and Transatlantic Slave Trades were started under Islam and the Papacy/Catholic Churches, (Islamic Conquest, trade and expansion and European/Spanish and Portuguese Imperialism) both false prophets, Matthew ch 24, Jesus said you shall know them by their fruits, meaning legacies. The Papacy is a wolf in sheeps clothing and Catholics are duped, the Bible says to call no man Holy 'Father'. This is why both slave trades start centuries after the early Church in the 7th and 15th centuries. Early Anglicans too simply looked up to Queen Elizabeth 1, as the Head of The Church, when only Christ is, she simply partnered with John Hawkins, a former employee of King Phillip II, the Catholic Monarch, to herald the abomination of The British Involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Transsaharan Arab Islamic Slave Trade and Transatlantic Slave Trade, as authorised by The Pope and the resulting racial oppression have triggered the hate and it continued with the Scramble for Africa, in the Berlin Conference in 1884, perpetuating negative stereotypes. Pope Martin V, Henry the Navigator, Knights Templar, Military Order of Christ and slavery, Various sources.... Pope Martin V authorized a crusade against Africa in 1418 and this coupled with a later bull (1441) sanctioned the Portuguese trade in African slaves. Ten black African slaves were presented to Martin in 1441 by Prince Henry of Portugal. By 1444, a ‘cargo’ of 235 enslaved Africans had been brought to Lagos in Portugal. The Portuguese were using enslaved Africans on sugar plantations in Madeira, a Portuguese island off the west coast of Africa, by 1460. They built the first slave fort in 1481, on the coast of modern Ghana. This was Elmina Castle, the headquarters of the Portuguese slave traders. In the early 17th century, Portugal was a major trader in enslaved Africans. At this time, it held the asiento, or contract, to supply the Spanish colonies with slaves. This meant that as well as buying their own slaves, the Portuguese were buying slaves for Spanish owned plantations. This added to the overall number of slaves which Portuguese ships carried. Records show the total figure to be 4,650,000 enslaved Africans. On the 18th June 1452, Pope Nicholas V, issues the Papal Bull Dum Diversas, it authorised Alfonso V of Portugal to reduce any “Saracens (Muslims) and pagans and any other unbelievers” to perpetual slavery. Other major Papal Bulls are Sane Charissmus in 1418, which launched a crusade on North Africa and the Saracens, Romanus Pontifex, 1455, which built on Dum Diversas, but literally just added the Pope's title to the bull and Inter Caetera, 1493. The language from the papal document Inter Caetera, dated May 4, 1493, identifies the nature of the “Deity” that the Catholic invaders of the original nations scrupulously worshiped. A sentence from that May 4 papal decree reads: “We trust in Him from whom empires and dominations and all good things proceed.” The pronoun “Him” is the only identifier of a “Deity” out of whom empire and domination issued forth or “proceeded.” The trade made the shift from Europe to the Americas as a primary destination for slaves around 1518. Prior to this time, slaves were required to pass through Portugal to be taxed before making their way to the Americas. The Papal bulls along with the Doctrine of Discovery and Berlin Scramble for Africa set off the basis of mass genocide, colonialism, destruction, and racial inequality for tens of millions of people maybe more, with people still stigmatised, racially prejudiced, left in dire conditions and not ever given any form of financial compensation. Henry the Navigator, has the dubious distinction of being a founder of the Atlantic slave trade. He sponsored Nuno Tristao's exploration of the African coast, and Antao Goncalves's hunting expedition there in 1441.Within a few years, Portugal was deeply involved in the slave trade. Henry died in 1460 in Sagres, Portugal. The Portuguese soon expanded their trade along the whole west coast of Africa. Henry the Navigator held the monopoly on all expeditions to Africa granted by the crown until his death in 1460.. Through his administrative direction, he is regarded as the main initiator of what would be known as the Age of Discovery. On 25 May 1420, Henry gained appointment as the Grand Master of the Military Order of Christ, the Portuguese successor to the Knights Templar, which had its headquarters at Tomar, in central Portugal. The Military Order of Christ, previously the Order of the Knights of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Ordem dos Cavaleiros de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo), is the former Knights Templar order as it was reconstituted in Portugal after the Templars were abolished on 22 March 1312 by the papal bull, Vox in excelso, issued by Pope Clement V. In Portugal, the Order of Christ accumulated great riches and power during the Age of Discoveries.

You shall know them by their fruits (Papacy): We also find the following in regards to the Papacy and its legitimization of the West African Slave Trade which grew into the Transatlantic Slave Trade: 1.) No direct admission of guilt, complicity, the foundational role played or the authorization given for the slave trade under the Roman Catholic Church - as given in various Papal Bulls. No condemnation of the blessings and approval for this! 2.) No papal accountability and reflection on the error of the Roman Catholic Church in assigning the Pope to have Papal Supremacy supposedly over the whole of Christendom - so as such that he was considered the supreme authority - as such to be unchallenged by such papal decrees. 3.) No wider acknowledgment of the wider damage, racial oppression, dehumanization and degradation caused and inflicted on the black race. 4.) No understanding of the mindset influenced and birthed for racists, especially those with power like Kings, who would in turn influence or perpetuate such attitudes and mindsets within the subjects of their kingdoms. 5.) No address towards reparations financially, mentally or otherwise to address the mass trauma caused from the slave trade. Come out of her, my people, that you ye be not partakers of her sin, Rev 18 v 4. To get some idea of the scale: Current estimates are that about 12 million to 12.8 million Africans were shipped across the Atlantic over a span of 400 years, although the number purchased by the traders was considerably higher, as the passage had a high death rate with approximately 1.2-2.4 million dying during the voyage, maybe higher. This may even be conservative. Some numbers are even beyond these. King Leopold II, of Belgium separately under Brittanica Encyclopedia has the following attributed: "As many as 10 million people died in the Congo Free State under his atrocities". Slaves were traded by Portugal, Spain, France, Britain and the Netherlands. The Danes did it for a brief time. Arabs traded Black African slaves too throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Slaves were shipped to the modern-day countries of the United States, Cuba, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, etc.

So many apologists here for the church and Pope Pius. There is however one issue that they aren’t prepared to address, father Tiso. Tiso was president of the Slovak republic from 1939 to 1945. Under his administration Slovakia cooperated with Nazi officials in the deportation and murder of tens of thousands of Slovakian Jews, Gypsy’s and other groups. Since Catholic priests take vows of chastity, poverty and obedience Pope Pius could have at any time ordered father Tiso to stop these actions under threat of excommunication but he didn’t. Now it’s very true that had Pope Pius tried to force father Tiso to stop the deportations he (Tiso) might have been forced out of power by the Slovakian fascists but this would have been a far better outcome than remaining silent while a member of the Catholic clergy actively participated in genocide.

@@wolfthequarrelsome504 Children yet not the soldiers themselves. Join our mailing list Join Support JVL Donate The Vatican & the Holocaust:Table of Contents|Background & Overview|"We Remember" People often ask: why did Pius XII, Eugenio Pacelli, not speak out more forcefully against Hitler? Historian Fr Dermot Fenlon of the Birmingham Oratory looks at the facts and sets the record straight. The answer is recounted by a former inmate of Dachau, Mgr Jean Bernard, later Bishop of Luxembourg: "The detained priests trembled every time news reached us of some protest by a religious authority, but particularly by the Vatican. We all had the impression that our warders made us atone heavily for the fury these protests evoked ... whenever the way we were treated became more brutal, the Protestant pastors among the prisoners used to vent their indignation on the Catholic priests: 'Again your big naive Pope and those simpletons, your bishops, are shooting their mouths off .. why don't they get the idea once and for all, and shut up. They play the heroes and we have to pay the bill.'" Albrecht von Kessel, an official at the German Embassy to the Holy See during the war, wrote in 1963: "We were convinced that a fiery protest by Pius XII against the persecution of the Jews ... would certainly not have saved the life of a single Jew. Hitler, like a trapped beast, would react to any menace that he felt directed at him, with cruel violence." The real question is, therefore, not what did the Pope say, but what did the Pope do? Actions speak louder than words. Papal policy in Nazi Europe was directed with an eye to local conditions. It was co- ordinated with local hierarchies. Nazi policy towards the Jews varied from country to country. Thus, although anti-Jewish measures were met in France by public protest from Archbishop Saliege of Toulouse, together with Archbishop Gerlier of Lyons and Bishop Thias of Mantauban, their protest was backed by a highly effective rescue and shelter campaign. 200,000 lives were saved. In Holland, as Fr Michael O'Carroll writes, the outcome was 'tragically different'. The Jewish historian Pinchas Lapide sums it up: "The saddest and most thought provoking conclusion is that whilst the Catholic clergy of Holland protested more loudly, expressly and frequently against Jewish persecutions than the religious hierarchy of any other Nazi-occupied country, more Jews - some 107,000 or 79% of the total - were deported from Holland; more than anywhere else in the West." Van Kessel's view is therefore borne out by the experience of Nazi Holland: protest merely made for more reprisals. What of Rome itself? In 1943 the German ambassador to the Holy See, Von Weizsaecker, sent a telegram to Berlin. The telegram has been cited as damning 'evidence' against Pius XII. "Although under pressure from all sides, the Pope has not let himself be drawn into any demonstrative censure of the deportation of Jews from Rome ... As there is probably no reason to expect other German actions against the Jews of Rome we can consider that a question so disturbing to German-Vatican relations has been liquidated." Von Weizsaecker's telegram was in fact a warning not to proceed with the proposed deportation of the Roman Jews: 'there is probably no reason to expect other German actions against the Jews of Rome'. Von Weizsaecker's action was backed by a warning to Hitler from Pius XII: if the pursuit and arrest of Roman Jews was not halted, the Holy Father would have to make a public protest. together the joint action of Von Weizsaecker and Pius XII ended the Nazi manhunt against the Jews of Rome. 7,000 lives were saved. In Hungary, an estimated 80,000 baptismal certificates were issued by Church authorities to Jews. In other areas of Eastern Europe the Vatican escape network (organised via Bulgaria by the Nuncio Roncalli - later John XXIII) has impressed those writers who have studied the subject, with the effectiveness of the Church's rescue operation. David Herstig concludes his book on the subject thus: "Those rescued by Pius are today living all over the world. There went to Israel alone from Romania 360,000 to the year 1965." The vindication of Pius XII has been established principally by Jewish writers and from Israeli archives. It is now established that the Pope supervised a rescue network which saved 860,000 Jewish lives - more than all the international agencies put together. After the war the Chief Rabbi of Israel thanked Pius XII for what he had done. The Chief Rabbi of Rome went one step further. He became a Catholic. He took the name Eugenio.

The pope’s first encyclical, Summi Pontificatus , issued at the very outset of the war, not only defended Poland but also stressed the unity of the human race, explicitly quoting St. Paul’s equating of Gentiles and Jews (Col. 3:10¯11). Pius’ first Christmas message called for the protection of racial minorities and condemned "atrocities" committed "against noncombatants and refugees, against old people, women and children"; defended "dignity, freedom and human life"; and declared that actions that violated them call for "vengeance in the sight of God." Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels railed in his diary: "The Pope has made a Christmas speech. Full of bitter, covert attacks against us, against the Reich and National Socialism. All the forces of internationalism are against us. We must break them. In a March 6, 1939 editorial, "Leadership for Peace," the Palestine Post in Jerusalem said: "Pius XII has clearly shown that he intends to carry on the late Pope's [Pius XI] work for freedom and peace... we remember that he must have had a large part to play in the recent Papal opposition to pernicious race theories and certain aspects of totalitarianism..." Less than two months after World War II broke out, on October 27, Pius XII issued his first encyclical, Summi Pontificatus. On the same day, the New York-based Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the equivalent of the Associated Press, reported that, "the unqualified condemnation which Pope Pius XII heaped on totalitarian, racist and materialistic theories of government in his encyclical Summi Pontificatus caused a profound stir... Although it had been expected that the Pope would attack ideologies hostile to the Catholic Church, few observers had expected so outspoken a document..." In a November 9, 1939 editorial, "Endowed with Reason," the American Israelite in Cincinnati also discussed the encyclical. "In decrying totalitarianism, Pope Pius XII called the individual the end and the state the means of bringing out the fundamental equality of men because men are endowed with reason," the editorial said. "This concept of democracy is reiterated in the Pope's Encyclical, stressing again the inviolability of the human person as a sacred being..." Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, upon Pius's death in 1958, said: "When fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade o Nazi terror, the voice of the pope was raised for the victims. The life of our times was enriched by a voice speaking on the great moral truths above the tumult of daily conflict. We mourn a great servant of peace." Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem, Isaac Herzog, sent Pius XII a personal message of thanks on February 28, 1944: "The people of Israel will never forget what His Holiness and his illustrious delegates, inspired by the eternal principles of religion which form the very foundation of true civilization, are doing for us unfortunate brothers and sisters in the most tragic hour of our history, which is living proof of Divine Providence in this world." Israel Zolli, Chief Rabbi of Rome, "What the Vatican did will be indelibly and eternally engraved in our hearts...priests and even higher prelates did things that will forever be an honor to Catholicism." Zolli later converted to Catholicism and took the Christian name Eugenio after the pope, who's given name was Eugenio. www.firstthings.com/author/william-doino-

In particular, the Jews *hiding within the Catholic institutions of Nazi Europe: such as Churches, Convents, Monasteries, the Vatican City-State and even the Pope's own personal summer home, Castle Gandolfo*. At any one time during the Final Solution phase of the Holocaust, there were between 500,000-870,000 Jews hiding in Catholic institutions. As the sufferings grow, so grows the light from the heart of Christ, and from His Vicar; more vigilant and ready for sacrifice and martyrdom are his sons and daughters in Christ. Young Levites and white-haired priests, religious of all orders, in all lands, dedicated Sisters, all in quest of good works and ready for sacrifice. There are no barriers, no distinctions. All sufferers are children of God in the eyes of the Church, children in Christ, for them and with them all suffer and die. No hero in history has commanded such an army; none is more militant, more fought against, none more heroic than that conducted by Pius XII in the name of Christian”

Jewish scholars, historians and holocaust survivors have all testified that Pius XII secretly saved over 1M Jews. At first he spoke out and wrote about Hitler and the evil plans he carried out. However, every time he would do so, thousands and thousands of Jews and Catholics were killed. Pius XII was begged by priests and Nazis as well to be quiet since his words and actions resulted in massacres. Working behind the scenes further upset Hitler and ordered to have the Pope kidnapped and killed. The Vatican has requested the opening of secret vaults containing millions of notes and letters that will prove Pius XII was an ally to the Jewish community.

This is true, one can research it, especially the silence. But the bigger issue I think, is not that this happened. It's that this is always happening. There is always genecide occurring in the world, sometimes by those who were historically the victims of it, but now able to be in the role of the oppressor. Evil is not something that has occurred in history, evil is part of human nature, the part we have to constantly battle with, within ourselves. Pius XII helped perpetrate evil, but we all have it inside of us, and it articulates itself in many ways, whether through the atrocities we commit to our brothers and sisters or through genecide.

He hid Jews in his own home. And during his papacy, thousands of priests and bishops across Europe helped to hide and protect Jewish people from Hitler's regime. Even more so, the papacy itself, under Pius's command, was in league with the Germany resistance movement; the Germans that attempted to kill Hitler. Anyone who says that Pius did "nothing to help the Jews" can go to hell.

Pope Pius XII lacked the moral courage and fiber to speak out simply for the fact that the Vatican as a symbolic representation of Christianity reflected outwardly the cancer of the human condition within Christianity. A Christianity which a millennia ago was vibrant and truly pious and possessed of a sense of morality and integrity. But by the Middle Ages the 'tree' of Christianity had already begun to wither and not yield such heavenly fruits it once yielded; the tree had gone into a state of decay, and not able to act as a channel of moral and spiritual revitalizing influences so as to properly mold human character and have that reflected publicly and consistently across the expanse of Christendom. Every Religion has shown itself vulnerable to the passage of time, and become a victim of moral rot from within which spread gradually and insidiously like a cancer does. When such a cancer is finally recognized as the cause of illness of the body, or body-politic as is the case for Christianity's adherents, it's too late to correct the problem and the body has to continue the course towards total loss and extinction of ability to evince health. That's why there's such a thing as Progressive Revelation per the Will of God that in every age a renewal of Religion has to take place so as to insure the presence of a Tree of Life for humankind as humanity evolves and social conditions are changed radically from one epoch of evolution to another. This is a reality which Baha'u'llah has made quite plain in His Writings. A reality which is alluded to only in all the previous Religions Texts and Oral traditions, and therefore easily undetectable to all but the most keen observers.

Like what? Quote it. Prove me wrong. The ball's in your court not mine. He knew what was happening and did nothing. What would Jesus have done?

He had background people working to get them out using documents supplied by the church. Speaking out might have caused them to focus on the church thereby making it harder to get people out. Look it up. Jewish leaders at the time praised him for his actions.

Dennis McAtee Yeah like what Dennis? The Vatican still refuses to release the relevant files. He ex-communicated Stalin and other communists but none of the Nazis. The Jewish community in Rome was rounded up literally beneath his very windows and sent to Auschwitz, yet he remained silent. I don't give a dam what some "rent-a-rabbi" says. You can have your own opinions but not your own facts.

facts were what I was waiting for. Arm chair quarterbacking a period in time is not a fact.

Excellent explanation of the conspiracies of the 3rd Reich. However, the most important curiosity of Hitler is a little secret of his quest for Nefertiti, amid World War II. Hitler searched for Nefertiti, who was previously Cleopatra and had a secret admirer Apollodorus in Egypt. This was triangulation for an ancient unrequited love to a man Nokodemion from the early Angelic order of the Universe. The romantic thriller of the Universe included a couple of Lyra-Vega and Nokodemion. Nokodemion's unrequited love caused chauvinism and misogynism, revenged on women and torture to humanity for 9 billion years. The earliest colony on Earth from 51 million BC, was by Nokodemion's loyalists, for teaching Creation Laws and Recommendations. The normal Creation was by atom making machine, construction machinery and natural science. The misbehaving loyalists became Getreuer with a Codex for mass murders and bounded on Earth with prophecies. The prophets Jesus Christ from the Bible, Muhammed from the Qu'ran by Gabriel and Eduard Meier from FIGU Institute are from the same Nokodemion spirit group. The Getreuer and Plejaren Federation control the algorithms of Akashic Records and extinction with mRNA for erasing memories and creating cyborgs. This is a very dangerous and irresponsible experiment on laboratory on Earth, for nihilism. They are people without ethics, conscience and integrity for stewardship of world, without education of world history. Hitler searched for Nefertiti, when they could have stopped extermination of Jews and Holocaust. The Tribulation Holocaust II is new martyr of the Jews, although without antisemitism. I hope that you would educate religious communities and researches of the Vatican about the most important reason for Nazi presence on Earth and Universe. www.divinecleopatra.com/post/when-hitler-loved-nefertiti-history-of-our-universe

If Pope Pius Xll had denounced Hitler and the Nazis, he would have gotten himself and most of his priests killed, the Vatican demolished and the Catholic church destroyed. Is there a Prima Dona who thinks that such a sacrifice should have been made?

the church is nazi... that's why, Germany represents fascism, religion never has an effect on war, look at governments and their connection to the church, there is no separation of church and state, its a lie, the churches are one of their biggest land buying clients!

Pacelli gave Hitler lots of money to start the Nazi party. It's documented in Murphy's book, "La Popessa," 1983. This happened in the very early 1920s. It's written by a Catholic in praise of Pacelli.

I agree, When the war was over, why Pius XII did not recognize Israel State. Why did he deny that compensation for this people so massacred? Vatican State denied to recognize Israel State, until Jean Paul II in 1993, did it Why ?
