@@Maddie_flamingo246 yeah i get what pala is trying to do, but he def needs to give trevor a little more space. I think this was day of casting was by far the worst ive watched too..

@@NathanLipetzyeah i really don’t understand why they hire people with literally 0 knowledge of the game. they don’t necessarily need to get pro players, but at least get someone who can actually understand what’s going on more than 50% of the time
@@GeoOsaka Absolutely. I wouldn't even mind Pala if he just stayed on topic but he's very constantly interrupting Rainbolt to make child-like jokes that just come off as pure cringe. He also shouts really loudly and it makes it hard to listen to on headphones
That’s called color commentary guys. It’s a thin line between providing in-depth analysis and being able to reach a bigger audience. If you want the audience for this sport to grow, you need to take this into account in your commentary. If you don’t want the audience to grow, then fine, only address the geeks and specialists. But then forget about these kind of tournaments because no sponsor is interested in only reaching an incrowd. I like their pair-up very much.
Unfortunately, it's poorly done. A lot of international viewers are going to find this commentary aggressive and detracts from their enjoyment of the game and makes it harder to engage with what is naturally exciting about Geoguessr. Maybe this a cultural thing, but there are better examples of international sport commentary that is fun and engaging and allows what is genuinely interesting and exciting about the action to shine through, and these prove that such an alienating style of commentary isn't necessary to engage new/casual international viewers, even if it is the norm in some places (is it?). 🤔 (Edit: And I'm reluctant to criticise Pala specifically for this. It's clear from their choices of Pala and Rachel that the organisers are going for more of a hypehype style of presenting. Both of them are fundamentally capable and I can see they are trying very hard. It's just important that the organisers know that they shouldn't push the game commentary style in the direction they have Pala taking it.)
I have to say that the level of play this weekend has been off the charts. All of these players have brought their absolute best and are playing to the max. I haven't seen a display of human ability like this in many, many years.
I'm a huge fan of Counter-Strike esports, and Pala is a well-known and well-respected presenter and host in a lot of main events for the scene. I think he does amazing in those positions. I also, however, think that this casting duo with Rainbolt doing play-by-play casting and Pala doing a hybrid presenter-style color commentary bit tends to clash with what Rainbolt is trying to get at and emphasize during his casting. Pala is clearly attempting to be that bridge between the GeoGuessr audience and the casual esports/spectator audience, which is a necessary role for an emerging esport. I just think he just tends to bulldoze over Rainbolt's commentary that could actually help the casual viewer (like me) understand what is happening each second of each round, and small tidbits that are worth extrapolating upon instead of generalizing and providing vague "will they/won't they" quips time and time again. It would be FANTASTIC to see Pala back to a main host or presenter role, and someone like launders who has a lot of experience doing color commentary doing the duo cast with Rainbolt. Good color commentators can time when they should pitch in their own comments VS play off what Rainbolt says and try and help him (as the experienced caster) build upon what he's trying to say or point out. This is probably way too much for a YT comment but I love this esport so much even just after a couple events of watching, and I want to see it keep growing!
A lot of hating going on here about the commentators. I think it just needs to be said though that commentating GeoGuessr is particularly hard. The rhythm of the action is very inconsistent, making it exceedingly difficult not to talk over each other. All that to be said, I think this duo of commentators actually does quite a good job, all things considered.
they did this in a chess event recently, one got up to 170 bpm just moving wooden pieces across a small board, so all about the stress levels, so entertaining.
The quiz at 4:05:53... You guys really need to get your facts straight. Hummel was founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1923. Adidas was founded in Herzogenaurach, Germany in 1924. I would argue both are pretty German. And yesterday it was mistaking UAE for Jordan ... in a quiz in a stream about a geography/map game...
@@jotauploadsstuff Sure, but the question was: "Which shoe brand is _from_ Germany?" To which both Adidas and Hummel are arguably valid answers. There are lots of ways it could have been asked so the answer would unambiguously be "Adidas", this just wasn't one of them.
A bollard is actually a post on a ship used principally for mooring boats. It now also refers to posts installed to control road traffic and to prevent vehicles from colliding or crashing into pedestrians and structures.
Pala legit makes this hard to watch not on mute. He's just constantly interrupting loudly with random nonsense. Idk about others, but the energy is too high for me when he doesn't really seem to know what he's talking about at all. Stream chat is constantly saying the same and did last year as well. Don't get why he's still on Edit: I see GeoPeter (a chat mod) said Pala is here for casual viewers, but I think most of chat complaining are relatively casual. I for one am only 800 elo.
On the other hand, I actually think rainbolt is a pretty bad commentator. I love his expertise up there, and dont want him to not be there, but he constantly says the same thing over and over. I don't mind Pala.
@@Lennli ah. I assumed people who have not played would not be watching. I also think of 800 (at least for myself) as bad. I don’t really know anything meta and guess a lot based on places I’ve travelled to 😂. My win rate is only 57% which seems super mid
The target audience strategy should not be aimed at people who are super super casual in this situation (Oh, this is Ohio -- is actually Malaysia). They're trying to grow the brand of Geoguessr and mold it into the Big E-sports scene, but at this point a guy who thinks Malaysia is Ohio isn't really often the guy who is trying to watch a long stream about clicking on Google Maps all day.
It seemed like the target audience is at least somewhat Geoguessr-based/invested because for example when 90% of the voters knew what a French bollard was, whereas a total outsider would not.
Pala and Rainbolt are just amazing together, they really need to be the commentators for every match. Pala's puns are getting better as well :D. Pala really should guess every country on the first screen and let Rainbolt correct him for some additional comedy :D.
Pala is fine but needs to just bring it down a bit. He is at 11 and needs to bring it down to about a 6. Also, it should be only Rainbolt talking while they are actively searching and the color commentator comes in after the timer is up.
As a viewer i would enjoy something else for the 3 rounds... 2x no moving means you dont see much of the original game, it would be way cooler to have something else for round 2 or 3. Maybe just make a 2nd moving round with short time only, maybe make something like country streak with only 20s time who gets further or anything else. But R2 no move, R3 no move and evenn R1 if you in the middle of nowhere also no or little move kinda beats the purpose of the game.
the thing is, he doesnt have any special information that the players dont. if he immediately knows the country, 99.99% of the time the players (who are mostly better than him) also do. personally i think its fine to have someone who is knowledgeable give their input on the round as its happening.
