What an incredible Rob Repin gave to the students and to us the viewers, to see his operation, I am so impressed with his passion for knowledge, to be self taught is a wealth and a gift. I hope he writes about it all. I could tell the energy was so high with this group, I was impressed with the microcope, the tools, the machines, the walk inside a real mine, blew my socks off.

Could say this about all of Nick's videos, but especially didn't want this one to end. I grew up around old mines and miners in Eastern Oregon and it's always fascinated me. Spent time combing the Sumpter Valley Dredge tailings in my youth. Thanx for bringing us along, Nick! 👍🏽😍🤩

My absolute favourite phrase: "I can't just accept that something is, I have to know why." DAMN, that is WHAT SCIENCE IS ALL ABOUT! He didn't HAVE to go and get a doctorate in geology, he was so curious, that he found the sources and learned it on his own. The pioneers of geology, back in the 1700s in England (like William Smith), were like this guy. An insatiable curiosity is the first requirement . . .
These are the common "in the field" experience that MAKE geologists out of students. Similar meetings took me into the field many, many years ago, and I'm grateful for a career I never imagined in geology, mostly in energy and mining and a bit in environmental work. It is fascinating stuff. Hope these students are inspired to major in geology... Well done Nick Zentner for making this happen.
That was sooooo interesting!!! It’s wonderful that Rob opens his mines to share his wealth of knowledge. Not everyday you see inside of a working mine. I had no idea Rob was digging out the bottom of an ancient river bed. It make sense that is where the gold is. Thank you Rob and good luck!!!!
I worked 14 years in a limestone quarry, part of my job was to run a CAT 330 excavator with a hyd hammer on it to break up boulders too large to fit the crusher. The gad on the hammer was 3' x 7", the boulders were anything from 6' to 25'. Yes the excavator will beat you up! When friends and relatives would come to visit, I would make them each stand with a hand on a different boulder, then tell them they were the first human to ever touch that rock. Some 20Ma old formation. Thanks Nick and Rob and Crew!

These videos are the best. An archeologist friend turned me on to Nick and I am hooked. We have traveled our state for 50 years and now look at it from a Nick Zentner Point of view!

Wow, what a great episode. Love how the lectures tie in with the field trips. What a great way to learn and put it all together. Rob is also such an interesting guy. Could listen to him talk all day. His aspiration to learn and get the "why" to the origins of gold is so impressive.

This is exactly what academia needs.kids pay attention. This is how people used to learn trades,skills, a specialized profession. having it passed down from elders of each generation.I hope you all absorbed a wealth of knowledge from this old timer.he did the same from someone at one time.then aquired more knowledge to hone his craft with desire . Rob...the excavator would not beat you up if you ran it with the blade facing the front and down on the bedrock...it will help take the rocking motion out of it. Hope that helps you and thanks for showing the students and us your mine. Best of luck to you sir.

Fascinating stuff. Rob Repin is so free with his knowledge. Not something one might normally expect from gold miners ... I'm sure little nuggets of knowledge come back the other way too but he's a generous mine of information. They clearly put some thought into the prep for the visit. Very nice touch.

Feeling a bit low today. This was just what I needed to distract and enrich my malfunctioning mind. Honestly, though, I’d more interested in the palm fossils than any gold but that doesn’t make this any less interesting to me overall. It is fascinating to see where gold comes from, in its natural habitat, so to speak. Thank you.
Hey Rob, I had some beautiful Pyrope garnets on my "Ten Cent" claim out of Granite, Ore. They were long ones about 1/2 to 3/4 in. long and were right on bedrock.
I remember well my visit to Rob's mine, they were in the process of breaking thru on a tunnel, I didn't go in very deep as I didn't have boots suitable to handling all that mud but Rob showed me how to pan for gold and I bought a scoop of pay dirt and I got a little gold for a souvenir. Well worth the visit and I learned and saw stuff in this video that I didn't see when I was there since I really didn't go in the mine. I've gotta admit, I'd love to work there long enough to have a piece of wire gold to call my own - that stuff is way too expensive for me to buy
