Great explanation, I’m 56 , and hated algebra in high school. But with these easy explanations it’s easy to understand so I can help my teen son do his homework. Just wish he would have been my teacher so many years ago! Thank you!
The Pythagorean Theorem doesn’t apply here as we don’t know if this is a right triangle. Also, the perimeter formula for a triangle is P = a + b + c which the problem is referring to. Thanks 4 the inquiry!

Thanks a lot for your explanation sir! Though I've ques. If the problem says that the area is 14cm^2 and perimeter is 18 metres. Find the dimensions. Then in this case what to do?
Write two equations using L for length and W for width. The first equation will represent the area of the shape (for instance, a rectangle). The second equation is for the perimeter of the “rectangle”. Once you have these two equations, use substitution to solve for both dimensions.
For the last problem, why does it say 189ft. when it says in the problem 189ft. higher than the light of the lighthouse? Would it then supposed to be 189+(a variable)? Hope you can attend to my question :)
We're starting at the sailer's line of sight. The light in the lighthouse is 189ft higher than his line of sight. Therefore, you only need to label the light in the lighthouse as being 189ft taller than where the sailer is.
Sorry, Mr. Whitt. Your solution is incorrect. The supplement of an angle is "180 - the angle". Thus - (x + (180-x)) = 180 degrees. So, the correct answer to the question is "45 degrees".
