Nice imaginary conversation. But it runs counter against the actual Miles theory concerning his bands selections. Special knowledge he passed on to his great percussionist/composer Mtume: " When you change your sound, you must change your band. Because the new sounds you're hearing now requires new members. Your current band was put together for the sounds you heard at that time." Great advice from the man who changed the music landscape several times.
@@MrNewktrane Idk what Miles Davis said, but the skill of the musician and the sound are two different things... Nothing counters anything. Even if the entire band is different, they could all be extremely skilled, what a dumb comment.
A sort of interesting homage to Wes, George builds his solo like Wes used to do: start with a few single string choruses, then play a few in octaves, finally closing out with melodies in chords. Although the piano solo was breathtaking there is plenty for a guitar player to glean here.
As I said elsewheres (UEvtCtpjPoY and 38OhTLwoVB8), piano solo by Mickey Tucker is, truly, the stuff of greatness. Thanks for providing this legendary track, in HQ.
This is from the live record, "There Will Never Be Another You". I've been looking for more details since its on Spotify but not on any of Benson's pages. A shame since its one of the finest live jazz records out there
Fuuucking hell!! this band is something else !!!! WoooooW! I love my bossanova but whoah! This rendition is absolutely amazing! From the upright bassist to all the way through. What I'd give to see this live :(
I'm certain that this is Mickey Tucker on piano playing in the George Benson Quartet. I think I hear his musicality flowing through this like you can hear on Mister Mysterious and Sweet Lotus Lips. I am working on a documentary about Mickey and the Archives of African American Music and Culture so I'll need to verify this with him.
This is from a bootleg record that Benson hated and wished had never been released. Music biz. I guess someone made some bucks from this crappy release.
