George Carlin (1937-2008) was an American comedian, actor, author, and social critic. Regarded as one of the most important and influential stand-up comedians of all time, he was dubbed "the dean of counterculture comedians". He was known for his black comedy and reflections on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and taboo subjects. His "seven dirty words" routine was central to the 1978 United States Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5-4 decision affirmed the government's power to censor indecent material on public airwaves.

Watched and listened to George Carlin for years. I appreciate you editing in his stand-up routines (uncensored) to give added context to the conversation. Thank you for making this!

George was extremely funny and very clever but I can't help but notice that same characteristic about him that we can notice in many of his generation and that is the characteristic and trademark of selfishness. George grew up in a high trust society in a country where people believed in things and where people could leave their doors unlocked at night, he was born into a time where you could work a minimum wage job and get a house and a home and afford to get married and there was real journalists and there wasn't a mass shooting every other day. It is as if he got to enjoy the best of this country but the revolution really didn't turn out the way everyone expected. And now it's replaced by bitterness. It seems unfair. He was wishing for an asteroid to strike the earth and demolish it and this is somebody with a daughter who perhaps could have had grandchildren. The Boomer generation had a lot of issues. That said I still think he was extremely funny extremely sharp and right into the end he had a great mind I just don't agree with him.

What's so great about grandchildren or great grandchildren when the world is spinning out of control? How cruel, to bring more children into the world today. And George didn't have anything like a privileged childhood - he was poor, with poor friends and he just got lucky with his comedy breaks early on, because the other road would have surely been jail for him, or death. Lots of his friends who he grew up with were shot or knifed in "rumbles" in the street, or died of drug overdoses. Hardly a charmed life.

@@f.b.8254 The world is spinning out of control partly because of people like him and their nihilistic posing. You can afford to be nihilistic when you're a 70-year-old millionaire. I admire him for criticizing the boomers but really that is his group. The boomers love George Carlin. They had a high trust society, with lower crime and less competition. This doesn't have to be necessarily true for each individual but it was generally true for the whole. Just think though of the selfishness of a person who is the 70-year-old millionaire who says he doesn't care if the world blows up meanwhile he has a daughter who would theoretically like to live a life herself??? Meanwhile he got to work in art and hone a craft, enjoy things etc You don't see a problem with this? George Carlin said himself that he thought there were "too many Whites." Ok George, have it your way. This is radical leftism. Don't complain about speech control, climate lockdowns, unlimited immigration, food shortages etc All of the most radical and lunatic policies of the present day for the most part come from a natural evolution of hippie beliefs from the Woodstock generation. What was "peace and love" in 69 is now "get revenge on Whitey" & " burn it all down." Well don't complain that everything sucks if you preach that you don't care about anything but at the same time you are annoyed that "people don't care" to paraphrase George. Don't complain about everyone being shitty to each other when Christianity is mocked and ridiculed for the last 50 years. George Carlin is Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. Angry at how everything turned out yet he is the grandfather who helped get it that way. These kids didn't raise themselves.

The MOST important thing is to care". Pablo Casals. Carlin got it wrong . Not caring is what brings on heart problems. He's also way off about the Earth. Actually in a short 200 years we have damaged the planet measurably.

Great comedian, but was a lifelong addict: cocaine and later wine & vicodin. He didn't pay his taxes for years - and it took him 20 years to finally pay off the IRS. Too bad he was so unhappy.
