Ah no, a lot of times humor is just poking fun at things. Philosophy trues to seek truth. His humor is based on baloney, like the more people dying from religion. The the last 100 years, secular Socialism, Marxism and Nazism has killed more people than all religious wars in history.
Although a quick glance at your comment makes one believe that you appear to have a point, your judgment is fundamentally flawed, because it ignores that Socialism, Marxism and Nazism are things of the past, whereas religion is still flourishing. A philosophy thousands of years old is still being used as a tool in order to manipulate the masses, keep people under control and deprive them of the chance to acquire the ability of critical thinking. It takes wisdom to present humanity's flaws with a sense of humour and Carlin did exactly this. Actually, now that I think of it, we can't expect him to be able to reach the very people he was meaning to criticise! So go ahead and say what you will.
Wayne Harmon what???? That’s an absolute lie first of all about death toll and religion coming second in that race because even nazis were driven by race and religion hence “the holocaust” and even if you don’t want to count that one and ignorantly call it simply nazism then fine but you do realize religious wars still continue today and in the past they have recorded wars lasting decades long with a couple billion in death tolls????? I mean it’s cute you want so bad,y believe religion is great and it can be in ways but like any system that man made, it’s very flawed.

@gherrrie he gave me life? How about babies with congenital disease that die few days after their birth? Or innocent people who were killed under the name of religion? What did they do was so wrong that they deserved to be "purged"? Which one of the ten commandments of God have they broken? You ask me to follow and listen to your God, I am sorry but I find no reasons to, maybe it's because I have reached the age of reason. On the other hand, you should be ashamed when a dead comedian made more sense than the god you have been blindly following.

Hi, Jeff I absolutely saw the position I'd put myself in. It's just I saw it yesterday and wanted to try it out. Apparently, it's been ascribed to Oscar Wilde but the article I read said more likely Somerset Maughan. Would have put a smiley face after, but it's funnier being a serious asshole criticizing a quote with a quote that criticises the critic :)
And THIS is why so many religious people hated Carlin. But if you think about it, they only hate him because he hit very close to home. If his jokes were weak and made no sense, they wouldn't mind what he said. But because he could make the 10 commandments look ridiculous, they HATED him. "But he loves you." "And he needs money!" Yeah, those punchlines pissed them right off..
I've thought about the money thing too. And he made all us why would he need us for anything at all? I believe in God but I question a lot of it. I always try to keep a open mind about this and listen to others as well. And that whole thing of it's basically God's way or you suffer forever there is no 3rd or whatever other choice. I'm sure we all could go on for hours on end about all this too. And yes I'm a fan of Carlin. Found him through the Bill & Ted movies.
Absolutely agree religious people need the church or whatever religious organisations to think for them because they really can't think for themselves or face reality of live its tough deal with it stop wanting religion as a crutch
The first time i heard George Carlin i was 9. Over 60 years later and i still love listening to him. I learned to think for myself and question everything from listening to him. He is gone too soon.

Constant fightings while his waifu. No wonder why he hates religion with a passion. He was lonely and sad. He was desperate to show that he is not guilty and often finds reason to justify his actions by attacking religion. For all the acts he did with his free will he would blame it all on others, a person with dignity or honor. He lived miserable and died cold and miserable. I feel sorry for him. He was hunted.

When people falsely insist the United States is a “christain nation”, I’m always happy to point out that the First Amendment of the constitution completely contradicts the First Commandment.
It only tells you can have all the religions in the universe that you want to dream up and in the USA there are hundreds of them. More than any other's in the world. They're invented every five minutes, just so they don't have to pay taxes.

We must admit, he was trying to educate people by acting as a comedian because he knew that people wouldn't listen to him if he would show his real identity of a philosopher. Greeting from Greece.
He had several periods to his career. He did become a social commentator and philosopher later in his career. I was fortunate to see him perform in 1989. I think he is the best comedian - ever.
King George once said that at one point, he considered himself a comedian, who wrote his own material. He then realised that he was a writer, that performed his material. He was so much more than a mere comedian, philosopher, and cynic.

Apparently when my dad was a kid he was kicked out of church for asking too many questions, he said things like “if God is real then when is he coming by? And why does he need money if he’s all powerful?”
When I was about seven or eight years old, I asked similar questions to my father. He said simply, "you don't need to know." And with that, I sort of knew he didn't know either. But I didn't question him-or I would have gotten a beating-true story. I'm in my early 60s now.
maybe because those questions were not inquisitive but disruptive. When is God coming by - that is not a question, that is mocking. Obviously your dad is an idiot. Why does God need money? Sounds like your dad is/was a cheap ass loser. God does not need money, but common sense tells normal people that the church has real every day expenses and everyone who donates does so willingly. Your dad got to go to church for free if he chose. The fact you are sharing this in this context proves you are as dumb as him
I got humiliated by religion teachers in school when she suggested the hijab (in Islam) should be a law and all women should wear it and I disagreed everyone laughed and I cried 😞
"some parents deserve respect, most don't" thanks for acknowledging that abusive relationships with parents exist and you shouldn't be forced to love someone who abuses you.
Amen. Not even love, but obey and respect. As Carlin says, these things are EARNED. Unfortunately, children know no different until theyre exposed to the world. Which is why many abusive parents keep their kids on a ridiculously short leash.
@blad90 but is he lying or trying to manipulate perception?? Religion is crazy.. People believe burning people alive is okay, coz gods want it.. That is crazy. Lol.. You dnt have to have cancer to knw its bad news.. Probably he just speaking if his own and other people's experiences.. The whole idea of God is dubious to begin with..
@blad90 so your point is people are well capable of killing other people without religion being the only reason..? Wow, what a revelation.. Mind blown sir, mind blown.. Isn't the whole point of divinity is to protect its followers? Isn't that the core of all our prayers, to keep us safe from harm... And yet people good or bad die without any intervention from God! So what's the point.. Why not just learn and teach civility and moral codes in English or which ever language u understand than some books which most of us can't read any way..
I was lucky enough to go see one of George's shows many years ago. It gave me chills to even be in the same room with him. What a privilege it was! The best comedian who ever lived! Holy jumping shit balls I miss him!!!
on the one hand, parents are just people on the other, we don't need to be _told_ to hold them in high regard; many of us, small children and vulnerable individuals in particular, are psychologically hard-wired to view good caretakers that way intrinsically but if you have children to produce labor because your economy is driven by menial work, then the whole deal gets kind of screwy because it's not just about fostering good feelings in the intimate family unit, but also about propping up the community's livelihood through agricultural means it's sort of like enshrining small businesses or farm subsidies in modern legislature

He is Catholic, so at worst he had to hang out cracking jokes in pergatory, until his friends said enough Rosary prayers to Mary most Virgin so he could walk up the mountain and humbly join the winged angels in Heaven. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purgatorio But being George, he probably just took the express glass casino elevator up the side of the mountain, then just enjoys hanging outside the pearly gates by the door, with Jake & Silent Bob. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A6vnsrmmUZ4.html

The Church was never a building, the Church is everywhere where are chatolics, in the past the Church was always in someones house and people decided to make a building where everyone can pray to God, you guys need to check about what you're saying before you post something.
Carlin really wasn't a comedian; he was a philosopher and thinker. He made it funny for us, but these are real ideas meant to challenge us to think about stuff we assume are true about life. whether you agree or not with what he says you have to consider his point. comedy is just about being funny, nothing wrong with that, but I just want to point out that guys like George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and even Dave Chapel get pretty deep with some very serious issues and people listen and are affected. The craft of stand up comedy, I think, is greatly underrated as a major driver of social commentary. There should be awards to recognize their contribution in that regard--real awards though, not like oscar or grammy; more like a nobel. just saying.
George, You had always been way ahead of your time on so many levels, I honestly don’t know where to begin. Hope you have been fine since passing, and I want you to know that you have always been a member of the family. R.I.P. George Carlin 1937-2008
My prospective is that people believe in god when they ether A are told to and never ask questions, or B have nothing else to look up to or are afraid of the unknown.
It’s both contextual and situational, because Honor Thy Mother and Father shows that these people deserve our obedience and respect because they procreated us, but the question is whether we are going to give or take it; that is choice. Respect and obedience is different for someone who is not related, because the whole saying that, “I will only give you respect if you don’t respect me” is contradictory since respect is deserved to the ones who has the qualities to be respected. Pettiness is not a respectful trait.
@@MrLuna098 You speak from a misunderstanding. The implication is clearly "if you want *special* respect and obedience, you must show you're worthy of it." Most people have a basic respect for others' lives and rights, what people mean when they say "you must earn my respect" is that if *you* expect to be respected so much as to be obeyed, you have to earn that. There is nothing petty about wanting to be treated as equal rather than inferior.
Some people just don't want there to be a God so they can live however they want. Good and evil exist but without a God there is no good and evil. Everyone will go to hell unless they have their sins paid for by Jesus sacrifice. Jesus was the only one that never sinned. Only by accepting Him and converting to christianity can we have eternal life. Read the Bible for yourself because most churches don't teach what the Bible says.
“If you tell people the truth, you better make them laugh or they will kill you” - George Bernard Shaw, or Gloria Steinem, but definitely not shakespeare

11:40 Yes! YES! Exactly what I always thought! Back when I was religious and tried my best to understand God. I always find it offensive how people treat an All-knowing All-powerful being like he's their personal buddy or something. And despite the death, poverty and disease all over the world, people ignore all of that and praise God what he's done *for them.* Maybe they were looking for a scholarship and they got it, or there was a massive hurricane that hit a school, 100s of kids died, but their own son survived, Praise be to God!! It baffles me how narcissistical some people can be and they're not even self-aware of it.
6:48 is my favorite- it just sums up how I feel about religion and I wish I could recite it verbatim whenever a religious person tries to force me to “believe”

He's changed the way I view a lot of things in life too. Although I was never big into religion after hearing him it all finally clicked as to why I felt that way.

We get our information straight from him or a Demon. There is no middle man. However Lucifer encourages us to find our own knowledge and helps us only when we truly need it and encourages to find our own path in life and not let someone influence us to believe a certain way.
