By the way, the guy in sketch playing Vice President Spiro Agnew is actor/director Peter Bonerz of The Bob Newhart Show. And Adam Carolla's dad Jim Carolla appears in the choir.

Back in those days he did TV shows constantly. I mean, there was no HBO until '77, and his record sales were only really good in the early 70's. So, basically he did literally hundreds of shows like this. When you do that many, some are just gonna suck.

Their are a lot of great interviews with george carlin on youtube where he talks about this "variety show" period of his life. While he did shows like this during the day, at night he was smoking pot with friends at jazz clubs and immersing himself in the burgeoning 'counter culture."

Boy, were they ahead of their time! If they thought television caused the demise of a lot of printed newspapers, what do you suppose they would think of what the internet is doing to them????

Newspapers were dying even then. They truly are a 19th century medium. Nobody wants to be bothered with a damned two and a half foot sheet of paper... even in 1968.

I would have been age 7 when I saw this new. I remember George Carlin on it, I don't know why he looked like a CEO, 1968 was a hippie era. I remember this show was on Monday evening.

Carlin's rebel disdain was his act. As a pro, he served the machine by dressing up, singing, dancing, and agreeing or disagreeing as he was told - whatever it took to make his name.

I don't get the priest joke. So the priest is liberal and is married, which is against the rules for priests. Then he says he's against birth control and would file for divorce if he caught his wife taking birth control pills? I don't see how that is funny, or a punchline for that matter.

No one doing forensic work to account for missing people? What will 2019 and 2020, bring. Untold horrors? "Video killed the radio", only partially, the internet killed newspapers, only partially. What was the actual message of the use of red and pink, in the ward robes? Was there some subliminal message from colors in the costuming? I was just a kid in 68, my brain was barely activated then. Social issues seem to always be in rotation, recycled, dressed up differently, but fundamentally the same, through the decades.
