Mr. Digweed is a master of his sport. Excellent instructions, and things that I need to continually keep in mind and practice. After 40 years of shotgunning , I was out last week for some farm pigeon pest control. Like riding a bike one can’t believe that you would get Rusty, or awkward.. what a frustrating outing. Back to basics, and many of the things MR. Digweed coaches. Becoming a capable shotgunner requires thought and practice. I will review this video several times, fix in my mind some of the main techniques, and then back to the silos. The coach compares shooting to Tennis, and I would agree 100%. Golf,Archery,Billards anything really. Footwork and body placement anchors everything and then build from there. Great video and expert advice of this fantastic coach !

I played a few months with using a Holosun for American trap. Yes, you're employing an aiming point 😱, but at least it's at the same focal distance with the target. Unfortunately, the rest of the sight is a distraction in the foreground. I thought putting the sight as close as possible reduced the temptation to drop your focus back to it, but it's still there, and the less straight away the target was, the bigger the distraction was for me. I am mixxed dominance, but personally I prefer the EasyHit to a dot on a shotgun. I'd probably like this Aimpoint on a pistol, though.

Aimpoint rules. It's still rewarding and important to be competent with iron sights, but its next level and is a refined tech development aid that changes the game. It enables pure focus on the target at its real distance and promotes good ergonomic posture and handling technique. Once you get used to using one, it's so intuitive. You look at the target, point your body, including the gun where your eyes are looking, and when you see the red dot, pull the trigger. It's faster, more consistent, and superbly reliable. They're expensive but uncomparible quality. If you do get the chance, then persevere and be prepared to change your approach in order to realise how to use it effectively. Revise the conventional relation of gun sights to taget and look at the target in the focal plaine of the target. Even slightly poor technique, imperfect mount, band cheek weald, imbalanced footing and body movement are forgivingly compensated to a degree by the way Aimpoint red dot sights intrinsicly work. ❤
@PatMcMayhem
@PatMcMayhem 5 месяцев назад
I thought this was great all around for many different reasons. And I definitely understand GD's reasoning on the red dot. It's fundamentally a target focused aiming system as opposed to iron sights or scopes and so seems to mesh better with shotguns, especially as a learning and communication tool.

Looks a nicely made product to improve the eye/barrel/target relationship and some great technique insight. However, eye dominance is a multifactorial issue for which there is NO panacea. Some shooters may experience positive effects from beads, full occlusion dots, side-ribs, spatial gratings or any of the other commercially available aids, whereas others may experience null or negative results. Any product which claims to have produced a single product that “cures” eye dominance issues doesn’t understand the subject matter.

So I don't know how the contraption on the barrel works. You are not looking straight down the barrel unless the target is straight in front of you. If it is a 50 yard crosser your looking down the side of the gun as the gun swings out in front of the target. You can't keep your eye on the barrel and the target and give it lead. Can someone explain to me.

Don't waste your money. You can buy a chinese fibre optic shotgun open reflex sight as cheap as chips - just use a needle to expand the dot into a blazing ball. This is a far superior battery free system that only costs about 20 quid for the sight and another 20 for picatinny adapter.

Maybe I need to try this but Im really struggling to see how this product is useful, even endorsed by big names. It seems like it would just limit my field of view and obscure the target. Maybe its one of those things that you have to use it to know if its any good, but I simply can't wrap my head around it. As soon as you look at the dot you will miss the target I would imagine. Will wait to see more reviews I suppose.
