I saw him in person in the 80's. I love the way he interacts with the fans. He is so warm. His vocals sound exactly like the cd. His music is next level, so soothing to the soul. He makes sweet love to the synthesizer. ❤❤❤

What I love about watching these old concerts is that the performers always looked like they truly enjoyed what they were doing and that passion is very electrifying. George was outstanding in so many ways but it is only within the last five years I've truly become acquainted with his work. Truly one of the greats.

I was lucky one evening to have dinner with George at the Myako Hotel in SF. We had just signed him to Epic it was late we talked for a couple of hours. I had been a Fan since his Zappa days and his MSFL Lps. First what a really intelligent Man. We were committed to his break out as an Artist and he delivered one after the other. He worked with Stanley Clarke and did a song where they had pre programmed the instruments to play themselves and they walked off stage with the music still in gear ( standing ovation) . What a guy!!!!!

Mr. George Duke, thank you for everything you had given to us through your amazing God-given talent. Starting from your composing abilities - in which you have managed to produce the ultimate funk music as the perfect combination and stylization of the best that the jazz and pop genres could give, followed by your virtuous playing of all sorts of keyboards - from the classical piano, clavinet, to the synthesizers, and completed by your phenomenal vocal abilities, you excelled in all these as an unsurpassed, perfect musician. We could see that proven also in this concert. But that was not all! You were also producing music for other world-known artists in your genre. And you have harnessed all that talent, not for your own prestige, money, or glory, but for your beautiful and inspiring music. And in the course of your brilliant career, you stayed modest. We can feel it in your every song. Eventually, you are the greatest, because your music has made you so, and you are celebrated because your music is celebrating you more and more as time goes by. What you were also well-known for was your admiration of other people, with whom you shared your talent generously. Something that we can see in this concert, too. So, thank you for all this, Mr. George Duke. We know that God has already blessed you through the music you've composed, played, and sang to us.

Isn’t it funny how when he was with Zappa early on, he had no care for synthesizers and no interest in singing?? And he becomes a first-rate synth soloist and an excellent R&B vocalist?

@@hubbsllc because even the minimoog was kind of mid compared to the oberheim with polyphony he got starting in 77. Those changed the tonal game for everybody at the time, duke, chick herbie. But George definitely used minimoogs before that; what do you mean he had no care for synthizsers?

The GUARDIAN OF THE LIGHT album that this tour was in support of was one of George's best and it's impressive that they did so much of it here, especially the "ambitious" (as George described it) "Light." And geez, what an opportunity to see the combination of Steve Ferrone, Paul Jackson and Louis Johnson (BTW, Johnson changes over to his Music Man after causing a string blowout during a slap solo).
