George Duke Memorial Service: Rashid & John Duke, Aug. 19th, 2013, Los Angeles 

To Rashid & John, my heart goes out to you during this time of year. I thank your dear parents for taking me into their private home and lives while I didn't have much of a home of my own growing up; I am forever grateful to the Duke's for their love and for making me feel like a son of theirs when I needed that most. I miss you guys much... I pray God's best for you both. I'm always there for you if ever needed. Godspeed, and much love,Marlon, Cyndee, Holland, & Frances

George's music taught me about jazz via R&B. He was a innovator and a translator. Thank you, George you are missed, baby! Much, much love and admiration. Jonathan Duke....mmmmm.......fine...LOL Love a handsome military officer!!!! I know this comment is wrong, but George would understand. He is "Heaven Sent"...lol

He lived 10 extra years for me. I just found out. 2 days ago I enjoyed one of his live performances. He was still here to me. Thank you George for the gift you gave us all 🙏🏾 Love ✌🏾

Oh, I had to hold back my tears... This is so touching and well deserved. George Duke, man I grew up on your music. My parents played you and I continue to listen to you today. You will be missed but your legend lives on...

Bearable yet annoying and frustrating feeling to realize this man has given us so much and we've given nothing back to him. Ok, I use to buy his records, but that's nothing considering the times I was in need and his music lifted my spirit. Paradoxically, I am even enjoying this memorial service as if it were a movie, this man has given us relief and comfort even through the love and affection expressed by all those who've been blessed by his friendship and acquaintance. I hope his relatives might be comforted by so many unknown yet equally salted tears.

You are forever in spirit with us and we thank you for giving all of us sooo much absolutely wonderful masterful music to listen to and worked with so many brilliant artists. You put the J into Jazz! Pure Joy!!! Excellence par none.

So great to be able to see & hear the love & respect for the great man, we'll continue to absorb his music & pass on his legacy to generations to come.
