Luther introduced the idea that the only thing Christians need is their bible, and with that they can find their truth on their own. So the mainstreaming of the idea of "you have your truth and I have mine," which has slowly become a plague on society, can trace its roots to Luther.

The monetary foundations with the introduction of usary to fund different crusades changed Catholicism after 1000 years of unity. Venice, a hub of finance, was quite influential in this change. Before the rise of usary communities encircled a Monestary where spiritual & physical needs were met for the whole community. This resulted in the most peaceful & productive time of the Early & Middle ages. The Franciscan & Dominican orders did hold a line on usary for a couple of centuries. Sadly, the debt of Kings forced upon the populace a usary that works a slow enslavement. By the time of Luther, Usary had entrenched itself and, although not supported by the Catholic Church, found many communities deeply affected. Luther railed against Usary in one dialogue & praised it's benefits of bringing more wealth into a community in another dialogue. The later did mesh with Luther's Justification of Faith alone. Now the worked based philosophies of sacrifice, almsgiving, and poverty vows could be ignored by relying on Faith alone. Even in the post industrial world of today the Countries that were predominantly Catholic were much slower in becoming economic, capitalistic successes than the Protestant Countries. This all happened with the rise of Big Banks & at its base was the once condemned use of Usary.

On the RC vs EO thing: One thing that people always overlook when doing the “side by side” comparison is the great disparity in terms of size. Not only that but they ignore the difference in success, structure, and position geographically in the world. Anyone can admit EO has some curb appeal. But comparing the curb appeal of RC vs EO is unfair. Not apples to apples. RC is >5x the size of EO. Not to mention our Americanized mainstream Catholicism in the U.S. is so much larger than the immigrant diasporic EO churches we have here. You would expect to find a more serious, intimate, and otherworldly experience in a foreign community containing a highly-committed self-selected educated class of converts. This is like comparing a Trad TLM community with mainstream novus ordo Catholicism. They are not burdened by our kind of failures because they have not been victims of our kind of success.

That's true Catholicism is way more successful then EO when compared to history. They lost Constantinople and now argue who has greater authority over one another(Constantinople, Russia). But even during RC worst times they were still able to reconquer lost territory, Iberia, Sicily. As well in the protestant reformation many souls were being lead by heretics and to schismatic churches but when that was going on in Europe the new world was found spreading RC there.

@@livenotbylies Everyone is looking for deep fellowship/community and reverent worship. You’re going to more easily get a taste of that at the only ~2 EO churches in your area that offer only one Sunday liturgy each. WHEREAS You might not find that right away in Catholicism considering your area might have +20 parishes each offering at least 3 masses on Sunday.

Unfortunately, people think EO is an oasis of “true Christianity” when really it’s just a sect that looks more “preserved” only because it’s a tiny decentralized community from a traditional non-western culture not under much pressure to “liberalize”. As you’ve said, you can find that “oasis experience” WITHIN the Catholic Church.

I know of no groypers/nationalists who advocate forced conversions, if I understood your criticism correctly. Subsidiarity is wonderful but I see nothing wrong with national power being used to criminalize evil and promote good. While faith must be voluntary, we should have a society that enforces a Christian lifestyle. Such as businesses closed on Sundays, etc. the way it used to be.

@@GenX_Catholic because if it can be INSTATED at the federal-level, it can also be ABOLISHED at the federallevel. tim explains this in the video. you hedge your bet on always beeing in control of the central government, but you fail to plan for the case when you (inevitably) loose the power at the central government. if you make it a state level thing, they cant do shit even if they take back power in the central government.

@@GenX_Catholic I see forced sabbath taking as being along the lines of forced conversion. Religious liberty protects both the state and the church. If everyone is required to act like they're Christian, the incentive for insincere and malformed Christians to seek positions of power within the church goes up exponentially, resulting in the corruption of the church.

April 23rd, like to say “Feliz De Tu Santo, George”. I have learned much from this video. You both bring hope to men in there 50’s and above. Candace is truly a great Woman, and I am in Trust in Jesus Christ. That Candace is going to get much stronger, fulfilled with the most closest to The Truth of Our Lord. Divine Mystery will continue, as a Father Will’s. We may not know, till Our Lord wants us to know. Our Lord is amazing, I would love for a book of Church History could be done for each grade year for children. Garibaldi, to me was just an accordion instrument. I then thought. Has Tim been picking at Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s brain 🧠? Hopefully 🙏 Tim will do more about, in details of Garibaldi. Plus we still have to admit to some of the difficulties of Our own country government. Going against Our fellow citizens of Heaven. It’s crazy, but Andrew Jackson went out to Louisiana to thank some Nun’s for there prayers?? It’s shown how Our Lord is in control. Yet let’s us have “free will”. Just congratulate both on final closing as well. Hopefully 🙏 you both can continue talks, and welcome 🙏 Fr. Mitch Pacwa to the chat 💬. 👆Yes, NW Europeans were more likely Protestants & those in SW were more likely to be Catholics before the end of the 1500s. BUT Martin Luther + the Reformation itself gets much too much Credit + Blame for what happened. Non-Catholic BELIEVERS Existed (BEFORE the terms Protestants or Reformers existed) BEFORE Luther BEFORE the 1500s. Albigensians, Waldensians, Lollards & Hussites for example. With only the Catholic Version of these Believers ? Consider this: “Half Truth = Whole Lie” “I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Christ” FORCED/Coerced Conversion DID continue AFTER the 5th century. IF speaking about only the Jews, they were (like others) targeted, interrogated, jailed, robbed, tortured, murdered and/or Exiled during Catholic INQUISITIONS. Printing Press + increased Literacy + Inadequacy of “Pay, Pray, Obey” religion given to the people by Priests who preformed Mass, collected money & controlled lives + Whistleblowers reporting about their highest ranked religious leaders ~ongoing sins, corruption, deceptions ~ religiously, politically, financially. = Chance to actually receive full Gospel Truth as Savior intended + to get free from “the church” who was Disobeying Christ. “Watch out no one deceives you. For many will come in my name claiming “I am the Christ” and will deceive many.”

Christianity underpins one political philosophy: subsidiarity. Thanks for the new big word. I used to call this centralization vs. decentralization, or as George referred to it, the federalization of power to the central government and away from localized government. But the key here is understanding that Christianity, starting from the doctrine of original sin, clearly is on the side of subsidiarity not big central government. This is made abundantly clear in the Bible when the people of Israel asked Samuel to give them a King, and God told Samuel what that rejection of God as their King would mean for Israel: God said this King you want will take your sons and your daughters, he will take your flocks and your herds, he will take you vineyards and olive groves. So basically, God warned Israel, if you give yourself a big government, it will oppress you, take your children to serve the State's pleasure, and tax away all that you own for the benefit of the elites (the king and his friends).

Strongly disagree. The HRE wasn't holy, roman, or an empire. The original Roman empire spread the faith. The HRE warred against the Pope and gave birth to protestantism.

The HOLY Roman Empire, which refers to a loose confederation of medieval german states, is different from the Roman Empire and had a long history of wars with the Popes. The original comment was that Catholics specifically should think of the Holy Roman Empire weekly. We catholics don't care if so-called believers gave birth to protestantism, because we see protestantism as a heresy that separates christians from the Church and ultimately leads to heresy. So if you're protestant, it's a different story, you have more reason to like the Holy Roman Empire. Also, I overlooked the role the Holy Roman Empire played in the crusades and fighting the Ottomans, it's not like they never did anything good and I actually quite like Germans and Germany.

I seems to me, once someone has chosen a side and planted their flag (EO or Rome) they tend to start oversimplifying and glossing over the arguments for the other side. It's probably unavoidable to keep from being continuously torn if you really did prayerful digging into both traditions. Having become EO myself about a decade ago from Protestant Evangelicalism, I feel like I often see this in people who ended up going to Rome when I hear them talk about Orthodoxy. Though, I'm sure if someone heard me talking about Catholicism they'd probably feel the same way.

Tim, I know you are a very smart man. But overall I think you’re a lousy interviewer because you talk for 80% of this video, expounding on your ideas for political and social and religious philosophy. You’re almost falling over in your desire to have Mr. Farmer agree with everything you say, and basically say wow Tim you are a genius. These are great ideas! If you are going to interview somebody you must let them talk more than you do, in my humble opinion. He’s got to get his chance and not just have The five minutes you allow him to agree with everything you say, and basically concur and essentially cheer you on. You should watch a Shawn Ryan Show podcast because Sean Ryan is a great interviewer, I don’t know what religion he is but as an interviewer he’s brilliant. Other than that great show, I am Catholic and I will continue to pray my rosary for you, Mr. Farmer, Candace Owens, and everybody who picks up the standard attempting to salvage what’s left of western Christian civilization.

I'm sorry that George lied about the Orthodox Church, though i'm sure he's just ignorant of THIS SUBJECT and mis-informed. The Orthodox Church IS united by Eucharistic communion and dogma. 'Yeah' Tim we have 'fathers', they're called Patriarchs and Bishops. Sure there's no 'supreme pontiff' but neither was there for the first thousand years of the Church!! BTW George, how's your 'supreme pontiff' Francis working out for you?

Protestants are unified by two things: 1) don't like Catholics 2) like contraception. 1) was a core attitude throughout US history. 2) became a core attitude after the Lambeth Conference in 1930. Given this history, is this THE, or at least one of the reason, that JFK 'had to go', with his large Catholic family? Without contraception Catholic large families had become the power brokers. Other players were Daley Family in Chicago, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh mayors and Pa Governor...etc. Wonder if George Farmer can trace a similar narrative in GB?

I mean I don't like it when Protestants (and this is an American specific phenomenon (I'm European)) lie about Catholics and what we believe, but I'm consistent... when I see Catholics doing the same thing to Protestants and it's false, that's wrong.

Maybe God is now removing (or allowing it to be removed) our Christian values in our laws ...(because our laws are built upon the Bible mostly Christians as oir founding fathers....and the culture because we have not absorbed the Spirit of the Faith. When George said "evangilizing by example" thats exactly what Pope Francis said when he told that woman that came to him about converting someone she knew. And trads tried to twist that story as Francis being an angry crypto commie that doesnt want knew faces coming home blah blah. No, what he said was the difference between prozelitysing and evangelizing.
