Props are due to the songwriter, the witty Mason Williams. I recall seeing him perform it at the Troubadour all them years ago. Also, George G was such a likable and witty guy.
I remember seeing this when it first aired (November 1968), and my Dad and I cracked up at the "sorta / aorta" rhyme). I didn't know it at the time, but when this was taped, Spanky and our Gang, despite putting on brave faces, were devastated by the very recent death of bandmate and vocal arranger Malcolm Hale. They kept their immediate commitments but never really recovered, disbanding not long afterward.
Do you have the entire episode? It is one of the very few I missed recording on E!. I fell asleep when it aired for the last time and awoke during the skit with Tommy attacking Santa for giving him a gun.
Hi, I found it as a part of this huge 4GB video file with four other episodes. Please remove the "(dot)" and replace it with a "." so the link works! archive(dot)org/details/vhs-tape-entertainment-television-four-episodes-of-the-original-smothers-brother-comedy-hour
