05/11/11 George Groves puts his Commonwealth title and undefeated record on the line as he takes on Liverpools Paul Smith in his 14th professional fight. George Groves (14-0) Paul Smith (29-3)
First knockdown is exemplary. Set it up off a series of one of the best double up down/down up jabs you'll ever see, a trap in itself. The kid was absolute class, one of the purest products of a quality British amateur pedigree this country has produced IMO. Arguably lacked durability, but every other attribute, particularly temperament was on point. Phenomenal boxer, Groves.
I watched this fight live and I still watch it a lot now. If I had 10 seconds to describe boxing I would just show the ten seconds up to the knockout in this fight and say no more. The way george set that right hand up soooooo sweet! I would like to hear what adam booth said to him in between 1st and 2nd round
He said “jab up jab down, then jab down jab up. Then finally jab up then throw the right hand. He will think your jabbing down once more to draw a shot from him, slide your right inside his counter” if you watch it back you’ll notice that exact jab pattern and the final jab isn’t followed by a jab to the body it’s followed by the right hand that unfortunately for poor Smith landed right on the button. Perfect execution.
That was a crunching right hand that Smith hit Groves with right near the end of that first round, a real championship knock out blow,Groves did well to take that, anyone who thinks that Groves ain't got a chin just needs to take a look at that, Froch learnt how to catch Groves through watching this fight I yell ya and yeah I know Froch done him twice and I'm glad he did but you gotta respect Groves's ability, fast hands great combo's good foot work and real world class power, that shot he done Smith with was as perfect and as clean a shot as it gets.
Every round he fought with Froch, he either gave him a beating, or a run for his money. Other than the ko, he was never outboxed by Carl. And this was after only 18 fights. That has to be respected, even by Froch.
@choclatesaltyballz Thanks for the upload, JSFIGHTTV. You make it possible for us on this side of the world to see it. I think it was a good show by George Groves. Paul Smith needs to work on his defence. Both punches shouldn't have caught him. Not sure what he was complaining about. Maybe he didn't realize what happened to him like the commentators said. He was clearly out on his feet, and needed official intervention to save him from uneccessary punishment and trauma. Thanks again, JSFIGHTTV
@@inkedlife2745 schooled lol he was coming in not recovered from injury but doesn’t pull out of fights and they were going to replace him but he insisted he fought. Warrior
JSFIGHTTV. Can you upload a friends 1978 ABA title win. Joe Frost against Alan Mann. Joe won in 14 seconds including the count. I beleive it was the quickest knockout ever in an ABA final. The DVD was lent out and neverreturned. Joe was also a member of the Rotunda ABC and went to the 1980 Moscow Olympics where he got to the quarter finals. They were called the George Wimpey ABA finals then. Many thanks JC.
Wonderful to watch. Paul Smith is the biggest helmet in boxing. Got such a big mouth on him for a domestic level fighter. Beaten in less than 5 mins lol
@etimsam Not a problem, hopefully they dont take these videos down! I'll be uploading all the best British title fights and International fights everyday. Keep checking back for more :)
@etimsam Im a paul smith fan but I gotta admit, that first punch from groves was beautifully executed. Such a smart punch. It was aimed at the body but groves switched it last minute. Counter-punched smiggas counter-punch
It's a huge dent in your pride to get knocked out when you are expecting to knock out your opponent. It's just misapplied instinct and pride to then contest your own stoppage, but Smith was gone. He got caught and his legs were at sea. He even fell back as the ref tried to console him. It was a shot that would have put many away, and they would not have gotten up after the first KO. Smith should not be ashamed, but he had no grounds for contesting the decision. He lives to fight another day.
Groves' hands were too low till he got tagged at the end of round one. A sharper operated would expose this rapidly. Good footwork but head movement could be better. He'll improve though and may get a world title version. Good luck! ps I don't box! :o)
how many people have been "the future" before failing miserably! groves is great to watch but i wish he wouldn't hang his chin out- i can see him getting ko'd soon. great footwork, great punch, great heart, but i don't see him being the most durable fighter around.
After getting hammered by both Degale and Smith, it'll be a while before Smith will want to face boxers from London! Toughest and most skilled boxers come from London, Lewis, Bruno, Groves, Cooper
Haye's made enough money to be a Promoter...he could promote talented British fighters who will fight at world level easily...plus he could draw the sponsors and tv companies easily as he did this in his fights...........
Groves certainly is talented and can punch but if he doesnt tighten up he will get punished. It's hard to believe that a top class amatuer is still this wide open.
@23Petrelli of course froch would put him to sleep early "at this time". the kids only 14 fights into his career. give him a chance to learn his trade before you start talking about taking on world champions.
i see so many flawsin groves and i cannot believe jason booth and his team have not worked on these because he has not improved in these areas at all. he leaves his chin hanging out all the time, he drops his right hand all the time, sooo succeptable to an overhand right, he loses every exchange of combinations mainly due to his chin hanging out with a target on. he has the power just failing in the most important areas. hes got power but against class opposition he will get rolled over.
@RPM11111 ok never been hit like that?? lets start from the fact there in a fair fight in same weight classes so fight within a certain weight requirement...I had a street fight when I was younger with a guy heavier than me and taller than me...he caught me with cheap shot left hook right on my chin I took it never went down...I was outnumbered so could'nt really fight back as I could of risked getting stabbed or something I see it happen to my mate...I had my guard up and he still
@ Kyle penistone .... never in Frochs class, got lucky one night and still got bashed.....rematch showed all the idiots who only watch domestic bristish fights what a world class boxer Froch is....been acrosss the big pond and played with the big boys
I think he's gonna be taken to school by Carl Froch tomorrow. Bad stoppage in this fight. I didn't see him winning this fight. I think he got lucky. We'll see how lucky he'll get tomorrow. He'd better not be counting on it. Froch is world class. I hope someone puts that fight on here
Mitchell Sam hahahaha who got taken to school?? froch took the beating and boxing lesson of his life and got saved by the ref, the last 3 rounds would have seen froch get more desperate and wild and get pounded by right hand counters until the end, either a ko or points...break down frochs 11 title fights and it isn't as prolific as it seems on paper scraped past pascal, schooled by dirrel who blew it trying to steal rounds, lost to kessler, schooled by ward (that is 4 fights) rematched a shot kessler, voluntary against mack lol, (6) smashed around the ring by a stone age glen johnson, lost almost every rd vs a taylor who is known for gassing, humiliated by groves lol .... do i need to go on???
boxinmetalx I agree with you. I haven't seen the fight yet. Officiating in British boxing is plainly a disgrace to the paying fans and boxing as a whole. From what I read about this fight Carl Froch has no business holding that title and George Groves is undefeated. That referee should definitely answer questions about his stoppage of the fight. That was a world championship fight and both boxers deserved the full opportunity to fight to the finish. That's what boxing is all about and we all know it. In the spirit of fair play the next for both fighters is an immediate rematch within the next 90 days or so. This is why I haven't been in a big hurry to look the fight up here on youtube because I would like to spare myself the anger. A total disgrace. And in addition I'd like to say that George should hold his shoulders high and be proud of his efforts
Mitchell Sam Groves was spent i dont think he had much left even before the premature stoppage. He was on top and put an extreme amount of effort into the fight, were as Froch can go that pace (getting his head caved in) for 12 rounds. Tragically we all remember the Benn - McClellan or the Eubank- Watson fight. In both those fights the hurt fighters were on top. BTW I had a £10 bet on Groves to win on points but at least we'll see him fight another day.
@RPM11111 could'nt knock me out he was pounding me like his life depended on it catching me with combinations on my temple and back of head and still could'nt knock me out... he was heavier than me and a tough street fighter...The guy has several convictions of GBH ABH assault etc and is now doing time for attempted murder...at 17,18 he was putting grown men in hospital...SMITH WENT DOWN AND SHOWED NO HEART TOOK ONE SHOT AND WAS GONE NO SYMPATHY FOR HIM
Near the end of the 1st round, when Groves was on the ropes with his hands up, if Smith hit him with a right to the body i think he could of finished the fight!
you never heard of john conteh? tool only a wannabe rude boy would have a name like cokecartel a real badman holds it down not baits himself up on youtube lol
Paul Mcdonough How can you call me an idiot for telling the truth? These two are of low quality and if you think that is a lie you're fucking stupid her her her her her
