I was at this show, great undercard and a great night. I had groves win it by a round. What I remember most though was Tyson Fury sat 3 rows in front of me taking his top off and swearing at Chisora. Fury then was escorted out by security. Chisora was acting pretty chilled
jaber Haha i had a few drinks also, I was standing there, my mouth open gawping, I pointed it out to my friend and he was asking "who's Tyson Fury" I felt like giving my mate a slap for that comment.
jaber my friend? Well he would come along to the fights to be sociable, and hang out with us, obviously he's heard of Tyson Fury now, but this is the sort of character he is, he went to watch a boxing show with us at Whitchurch leisure centre in Bristol, joe calzaghe was introduced to the crowd this was after joe had just beaten Eubank, and hardly anyone approached him! My friend saw a heavyweight boxer called Pele Reid box on the undercard and he left the show raving about him, "next heavyweight champ of the world!" Was what he said, I still wind him up today nearly 20 years later! Where's pele Reid now? 😂
One of the closest fights I've seen in ages. Love watching this fight. Two very talented fighters. Let's hope sometime in the future they meet again. I had DeGale winning though, 115-113. The kind of fight an aspiring boxer can learn from. Skill, will and heart will take you to the top.
totally agree with you winning a Olympic gold medal is something not every boxer can boast about having.. did well even tho he's been out of action for a while and this was a nice comeback for him.
***** So just because I have an opinion I have low self esteem? how did you calculate that? with your pea brain...lol He's not a good boxing, he'll end up a journey man soon.
GK Musik "It would appear Groves has a longer reach". Aren't commentators meant to know the fighters that they're commentating on? That old guy is on the old juice throughout this fight.
I saw some of DeGale last night. He looked superb in short bursts. He spent too much time on the ropes making himself an easier target than someone of his ability should be. The opponent was fit, determined+ difficult. The fact that DeGale had only one fight in a year showed at times. DeGale is very skilful, you cannot win the Olympic title at that weight class without good speed+ skill. With the right attiude, management+ tactics he can reach world championship level within 2 years from now.
Cant wait to see Degale fight for a world title! So much class! Light on the feet, great head movemnt, blocks with shoulders forearms n elbows, n there arent many long armed fighter who can shortin them up for a tactical phone booth fight! I luv it! Its like like someone took Degale out of a time machine! So much old school boxing knowledge its insane... Even I feel robbed aftr watchn dat fight. U should still b undefeated!
was looking forward to see who won until I saw a suggested video on the side say " DEGALE POST FIGHT PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER LOSS TO GROVES". cheers youtube!
This was the fight I discovered how camera angles and commentary matter to the TV viewing audience. I watched it on SKY and had Groves winning it easily. Watching on Frank Warren Tv with Colin Hart it certainly looks a different fight. But on Fight Night it was clear that Groves had nicked it with his beautiful ring generalship and boxing skills.
really impressed with groves, kid is constantly improoving, here he showed really good boxing on the back foot upsetting degeales rhtym, against froch he held the center of the ring, if he keeps getting better he will be a great champ.
That was either a degale win or a draw at best for gg and I'm a massive gg fan but he got a lucky decision here. Buzzing for gg vs jr tonight should be a great fight can't wait 👌
I agree. DeGale was the one attacing, trying to engage, trying to "make" the fight. Groves was content to defend, avoid getting hit, but not throwing enough counter punches especially from rounds 6-12. Whilst it was a competeive fight and Groves started well. I had DeGale winning this fight 7-5. I hope they re-match whilst they are still top level boxers. I favour DeGale to win because I think he is the more talented of the two+ with the right attitude+ management should go further.
dont wanna keep repeating what everyone else has already said but the commentary was so misleading.does anyone know if theres a vid of this on line with the origional sky sports commentary?
When DeGale celebrates prematurely, I'd put it on par with the time Michael Jackson accepted that award he was supposed to be presenting. Ooooh a bit awkward. Still, he was unlucky not to get the decision.
Groves landed more scoring punches whilst De Gale landed the eye catching punches. Definitely a Groves win though but upon watching it again it's tighter than I thought.
i would love to see a re-match between them, did you watch chunky's fight yesterday against that Italian guy, he approached the fight with a better attitude i would also say he showed alot of class but it was in short bursts and surprisingly mahamoudy had a hard head went full twelve i thought chunky was going to finnish him early because in the first 3 rounds he showed constant good performance more combos and movement etc..im happy he won tho he clearly was the better boxer.
Hart said in the second round that DeGale made him miss...did he not see the punches landing...most people believe what they hear, but i believe in what i see...i think groves just nicked it
With 25 seconds left in the 3rd round the announcer says, "It's very watchable." What? He better not ever call a Mayweather fight boring. LOL Up until this point in the third round, I don't know if I've ever seen less punches less punches landed in a fight. And many of the punches that do land seem kind of soft.
I disagree with those claiming DeGale won. Some rounds were close, but Groves shaded nearly all of them in my book. He simply executed his gameplan better. Froch beats both of these guys handidly, though.
DeGale was able to cope with Groves and showed that he could hurt Groves, but he lost because he totally lost the initiative and failed to be proactive.
Great fight for British boxing fans! I scored it: Degale 10 9 10 10 9 10 9 10 10 9 9 10 (115) Groves 9 10 9 10 10 9 10 9 9 10 10 9 (114) Even though I think Degale won, rounds 3,4,10 and 12 were very close and could have gone either way, so a majority decision to Groves is not by any means a robbery. I hope they fight again when one of them has a world title
I have to say that i watched the whole fight, and really feel that Degale done the job and won that. He was pushing the fight from beginning to end and hurt Groves a few times also landed the more meaningful shots imo..
I wanted Groves to win. But I think Degale looked more dangerous in those few spurts esp when he hurt groves later on. I hope I'm wrong but I think if Degale gets a coach who understands a bit more about strategy and brings him to his potential then I think he might do a job on Groves next time. George was quite lucky there. Loathe as I am to admit that.
I would encourage all boxing fans, if you do not like the commentary on a fight or you want to focus on the fight and watch it properly turn the volume down so you will only see the fight and not hear Bullshit! it works
If Degales wishes to genuinely progress and exploit his potential, he needs to get with Matchroom. I believe Degale won this fight, but Groves has improved greatly since then and will reach new heights simply due to strong promotion and management. I dont even really see anything of Degale unfortunately. Apart from having an annoying way about him, he actually does have genuine ability. Wont somethings wrong mate you have to be brave and make a change!!
quite of a stinker to be fair , that's what happen sometimes when u got a bad blood between 2 boxers , they are either engaging into a brawl or just playing chess and chess only , afraid of the idea they might make slight mistake and lose to the nemesis
Round 6, cagey, degale a couple of big left hands. Round 7, degale, few shots through. Round 8, degale couple punches, groves inactive. Round 9, degale shut out, almost k.o groves at end. Round 10 groves, degale, on the offensive, rattles off sharp combos, degale couple of good shots, but outworked. Round 11 groves, more combos from back foot, flurry from degale at end, but good attack and defense from groves, Round 12, degale good body shots, more jabs
1st round degale, more jabs through, more aggressive, on front foot, coming forward, 1 power shot right hand, degale backing away. 2nd round degale, groves more aggressive but degale still landing more jabs, good uppercut, still more aggressive out of the 2. 3rd round degale, catchs him clean at end, more on front foot, working jab 4th groves, degale more effective punches, but groves good at start and in flashes at end, overall more work. 5th round degale, back using jab.
Footwork slightly nudged Groves the fight. Degale was chasing Groves the whole fight whilst Groves was constantly moving and scoring cagey minimalist shots. Whether Groves stuck to a more coherent game plan or not (which is hard for any boxer at their level) it defiantly seemed that way due to Degales clumsy "chaise and not cut off attitude".
Yeah I had DeGale winning it by 1, but can't say he was robbed as it could have gone either way. There were a good five rounds which could have legitimately went either way.
