This song, was from George's 1976 album Thirty Three & 1/3. Brilliant playful reference to George's plagiarism court case for "My Sweet Lord". Billy Preston on the piano, horn arrangement by Tom Scott and Eric Idle throwing interjections through out the video. A great upbeat tempo, with wonderful piano injected. This song went to Number 25. Fantastic.Wonderful George. RIP Great reaction. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Harrison was sued, for "My Sweet Lord" for a section of chord' believed simulate to "He's so Fine" (1963) by the Chiffons. George admitted there are only so many notes in music -and he knew the song - but this snarky response resulted. The notes have been checked, it's in key of E', my Lawyers say it's OK - some of his friends are in this like Ron Wood (Jeff Beck, The Faces, Rolling Stones) is the woman who stands up - influent of Month Python, the dummy queen, etc. George was snarky, and quite clever.
George is such a great songwriter, this is such a brilliant song. The melody is so catchy and the lyrics are hilarious! The video is a lot of fun, with help from his friends in Monty Python. Thanks for a great reaction Harri!
Glad you already knew his reason for This Song....off the same album as Crackerbox Palace ..the video he did with Monty Python, you can see it in this. Have ALWAYS loved George's sense of the absurd.
My Sweet Lord definitely sounded like He's So Fine. I doubt George intended to lift it straight off but it clearly is the same melody and chord sequence for most of the song. Clearly, George had a sense of humor about it. I've always loved this song.
Dumbest lawsuit ever. None of The Beatles need to steal music from anyone else. Such a trivial and petty lawsuit. The songs don't even sound remotely alike to my ears.
The Judge *is* a drummer. That's Jim Keltner, the legendary session musician who later was part of the Traveling Wilburys. Ron Wood is one of the men dressed as ladies in the court. I haven't seen any verification on it, but the policeman looks a lot like Harry Nilsson.
Yep, I mentioned the same about Jim on my comment 😊 also the verse "This tune has nothing Bright about it" makes reference to the company responsible for the lawsuit "Bright Tunes Music". About Harry Nilsson not so sure, according to IMDb website is another person.
Great choice Harri! Always thought this and 33 1/3 should have been major hits! Another song from that album worth checking out is “Pure Smokey,” a great soulful tribute to Smokey Robinson. Brilliant guitar solos (two!) in that tune.
This song came to me/Unknowingly (The judge in George's case stopped short of deciding that George had intentionally appropriated the melody to "He's So Fine", although it parallels "My Sweet Lord" very closely. George had testified that he had never heard "He's So Fine". Instead, the judge said that Harrison had subconsciously plagiarized the tune, somehow, which is weird.)
Precisely yesterday I found your channel and I'm already hooked with one of my favorite bands of my whole life, as I said in my first comment I arrived here looking for reactions especially of George's songs for what would be his 80th birthday, and now another gem, great. Two of your comments are well related, the judge is actually a drummer, Jim Keltner, and one or two members of the Rolling Stones also appear in the video, I could not identify any of them so not sure on what role, not a fan.
Usually George’s “All Things Must Past” album is the only one people listened to, but there’s a lot more hidden gems in George’s discography, and one of it is definitely “This Song”! I think “You”, “Sat Singing”, “Dark Horse”, “Any Road” and “Baltimore Oriole” by George are hidden gems too! Definitely worth checking out! (Baltimore Oriole is a cover song by him, but it’s still great)
From George Harrison you could react to the song "Faster" from the record "George Harrison " dedicated to F1 racing circus wich he used to visit at the paddock where he would chat with Jackie Stewart((team Tyrrell) the English racer. Also Ronnie Peterson (team lotus) had died recently. The song starts exactly with the noise of the motors F1 cars taking off from the grid. Take care 😊
In the Lyric when he sings , 'This song has nothing Bright about it' refers to the publisher of He's So Fine (Bright Songs), the song the My Sweet Lord was sued for. I know you like Bob Dylan Harri , he has some funny tunes also ... I shall be Free , Talking World War 3 Blues , Bob Dylan's 115th Dream ..and a favorite of mine Leopard Skin Pillbox hat. Love your videos ....
George says he thought he was ripping off "Oh Happy Day" with "My Sweet Lord". "Oh Happy Day" was public domain. Only problem, "He So Fine" had already ripped off "Oh Happy Day" with "He's So Fine" and copyrighted the tune.
In one of John Lennon’s last interviews he did say that George knew what he was doing regarding the similarities between My Sweet Lord and He’s So Fine. He just hoped no one would care enough to notice.
