This isn't some imitator of other singers . This is an ORIGINAL singer. This is REAL country music. This is a LEGEND. This is the one and only, the original, the legendary GEORGE JONES!
A lot of likes, hardly any replies. In fact all them less then a year, after a 12 year old comment. We ol timers funny like that. Just pray that you are okay if still here. If you in Heaven that is even better.
Did his voice crack? It's just another authentic live version to me. No dubbing, lip syncing, prerecording and all that other crap that these no talents of today depend on. George, we'll love you, forever.
My Dad loved George Jones so much I even went to George Jones concert just to get George Jones hat and his CDs for my dad every time I hear George Jones I think of my father he was in service for 32 years loved his family loved his country and loved George Jones and Johnny Cash
My wife passed away in 2007, and I listen to this song and think of her and the good times we had and shed a tear. I've continued in life, but it is 1/2 empty without her.
The greatest Country song ever written. Anyone who's loved someone they couldn't have for one reason or another has this song imprinted on their heart and it doesn't go away.
sledge1960 No matter what she says, you never forget in time. I wasn't alive in 1962, but I have marked "important" every I Love You. When you lose "the one," you only stop loving her when "they carry" you "away."
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days
Obviously time has taken a toll on George just like all of us. His voice not as strong as it used to be but in a way even more emotional and poignant. God bless him. Simply the best.
My mom left my dad in 1969 after just a few years of marriage. My dad never got over it, never stopped carrying the torch. This song brings me back to that tragic love. RIP, George Jone. RIP, Dad.
This is my favorite version, missed notes and all, It was full of emotion, and at the end, the joy he had for the best of Nashville, showing up to honor him was genuine. Country wouldn't have survived without possum, and a few others back in the late 70's and early 80's to inspire the stars of today and up and coming stars in the future. Rest in Peace Possum.
one of the best country songs ever written and performed. I can only imagine how many funeral homes over the years have played this song for a loved one that has passed. it also sold a lot of beer in a lot of Honky Tonks. just a great old cry in your beer song! rest in peace George❤
i grew up in the 80's listening to him with my dad and uncles while working our farm. I'm a marine now and still love me some george. Thank you brother, your an original
It's bad to get old but what hurts me more is to see the Legends get old. But George is still out there doing his music and that's great. Allergies and age are taking there toll on his voice, but he ain't giving up. Great job George!!!
one of the best singers singing one of if not THE best country song ever written. just beautiful. Possum, you will be missed ALOT. R.I.P. George Jones!
Yes. First time I heard it on the radio long time ago so emotional what a good lyrics I love this song it's 2023 still listening George Jones. How are you Janice ?
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days…
I can't describe the feeling and tears, that come when I watched the man sing and struggle with some of the notes in the song, one of the greatest singers in the country music I remember driving my dad driving home when I was 6 years old song from Edmonton to Ontario, and we always listened to George, will always be my most Treasured Memories.
My favourite singer of ANY genre! I've never had the privilege to see this amazing man in concert, and I never will! But in my eyes , he'll always be the greatest singer of all time! I bawled my eyes out for 2 days when he passed! That right there is the epitome of what country is all about!!! May you RIP sweet man! You'll be forever loved, remembered and greatly missed!!
84lovinglife I cried too for days. even now 3 years later when i listen to Jones I cry. Jones music impacted my life for so many years . when i listen to Jones i get goosebumps and start to cry.
This is one of the few country artists I'm glad to say I did see. At the 1984 World's Fair Liggett and Meyer's Amphitheater. During the show, the curtains would open on the back of the stage showing a panoramic view of the Mississippi River with the barges and steamboats passing. It was a shame they tore it down after the World's Fair. I remember him starting the show with none other than No Show Jones. Also saw Charlie Pride there. Both too awesome shows
My mom would sing it to me when I was growing up, but i love you mom even though you are in heaven.it brings back memories of her singing it to me sleep
I am sure many can relate to this song somewhere in their life, for me it was my Dad, he didn't listen to Country Music, but the song was his life about my mother, married 44 years at the time of his death, she left so many times, yet he took her back every time she showed up. Funny how life is! This song was playing on the car radio when I walked out of the hospital the day he died, it still brings me to my knees!
my grandpa is sick and my grandma passed away this passed year this jan would be there 56th i wanna say. im trying to learn this song so when the time comes... i can play it.
Your words are True , I met your dad so many times , in many different places , hope you are in a good place , your dad too . I'm near forty years married , only she and god know why she put up with me ..
I'll never forget the moment I realized what this song meant. I had always heard it but never understood it until I was going through my Dad's cd collection when I was 12, just after Johnny Cash died. I could feel the emotion, the heartache, in it. It was the first time (and one of the only since then) that I felt a song rip my heart out.
Yes. First time I heard it on the radio long time ago so emotional what a good lyrics I love this song it's 2023 still listening to my playlist. How are you Dana ?
WOW I love and Miss You OLD George Jones POSSUM...You are and were the very best...I shall never forget your concerts brother! RIP Sir, till we meet again! MRP
This song reminds me of my great grandfather - from the day his wife, my great grandmother passed away, he grived for her and kept saying, " I want to go be with my Jenny" - finally, that day came - and from that day forth - my great grandfather stopped greving for his wife, my great grandmother. I have no doubt that she met him at heavens gates and they are together for all eternity in heaven togeather. My their souls rest in Eternal Peace with Almighty God.
I am not a fan of most country but some of the very best musicians of any genre are country legends, Hank Sr., Merle, Possum, Cash, Kris Kristofferson and the songs he wrote for others, Waylon, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, Earl Monroe, and Earl Scruggs, leaving out a few of course.
He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time" As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two He had underlined in red every single "I love you" I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today You know, she came to see him one last time Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good" He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today
I saw him at Nutty Jerrys in Beaumont TX right b4 he died. I was 37 years of age and cried right in the concert hall listening to possum . My old man always wanted us to go see him together. He passed on, and I took him in spirit that night. I was a 5 yr old kid again that night. Felt like 1979 in pops truck with 8 track playing George Jones
Hey I was there that night too man. I live in Nederland and George Jones was my grandfather's second cousin, who was from vidor Texas. I do love the possum as well. Small world

I remember every year for labor day ( I think) my mom and I would go over to Kentucky and listen to him perform live!! This man and a few others made music and paved the way for the country singers today!!! There will never be any one who can fill his shoes BC there will never be another George jones!!!
No one could ever sing like the old Possum. He had like a drum in her s nose 👃🐽 LoL 🤣 Always love to hear him sing . This one is a year jerker. 1962 June 23 was when my late Husband,& I gut married. Weeping still!
My son is 17 months old and he loves the older country music just like myself and I would have to say George is his all time favorite!! My son know good music when he hears it:)
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days
Sirius Country Radio did a show earlier this year in which they played their list of the top 1000 country songs. Obviously it took a few days to play them all, but I look forward to hearing this at the very end. While this made it to the top 10 (maybe even top 5), I was INCENSED that it wasn’t #1 -which in my mind it will always be. NO ONE could sing like George Jones. His timing & phrasing was genius. Very glad to know he lived his last 13 years a sober man. He was a gift to the world. Long live this song AND the ol’ Possum! 🌹🙏🏻❤️✌🏻
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days

Thank you George Jones for the memories and great music. You've entertained us for fifty plus years which is an impressive run. I hope your rest will be eternal and peaceful, kind sir.
I grew up listening to George in the 60's. I listened to him through the 70's and 80's in the military. I still listen to him. To me George Jones WAS country. I was honored to meet him a few times and he was always the gentleman. The world got a little sadder when the Possum passed away. Who's gonna fill their shoes...
My daddy loved my mother so much but he was a alcoholic and she couldn’t live with him anymore. They divorced in 1978. He never remarried and never got over her. He died in 2017 and I played this song because I always felt it was the only song that was him.
This is the first place I went to when I heard he passed away. and thought of this song.Love you George, Thank you for all your wonderful songs and sharing your talent with us. So sad, and still thought I would get to see you concert one day.
