This story is that he died, "all dressed up to go away" (in his casket) "they placed a wreath upon his door", "first time I'd seen him smile in years" (made up by the funeral director), "she came to see him one last time" (at his funeral). He said he'd love her til he died, and he did! I'm 49, and when I was a small child, my mother explained this song to me. I've come to learn that real, true love is eternal, and even if one person dies, that love still lives on.

@@dasharostov6258 I’m reluctant to listen to any reactions to this song because I know they are going to get it wrong. Also I think this generation has very little concept of eternal love.

I don’t know which part of the song is more heartbreaking. Him loving her until he died or her “coming to see him one last time” at the funeral to discover that he didn’t “forget her with time” the way she thought he would. Tragic for them both.

George Jones was a country legend singer songwriter from the 50's-80's. He struggled with alcoholism & drugs during his life. He was married at one time to fellow country music singer Tammy Wynette & they had some great duets together. He had so many hits such as "White Lightnin'", "She Thinks I Still Care", "We Must Have Been Out Of Our Minds", "Love Bug", "Things Have Gone to Pieces", "The Race Is On", "My Favorite Lies", "I'll Share My World With You", "Take Me", "A Good Year For The Roses," "If My Heart Had Windows" & many others.

The younger generation reacts to their fist thought and then builds on it rather than asking questions of the song and themselves about what things mean -- not just wha the words say.

This was the first song I heard when I came to the States. Didn't speak English, but his voice alone made me cry. After I knew the words, my goodness, I cried even harder and still do every time I hear this song. George Jones has always been my favorite country singer. My playlist is filled with his songs. He is gone now, but I still listing to his songs. George Strait and Alan Jackson are now my favorites. But George Jones will always be my number one. G. S, and A. J. sing beautiful duets together. Besides that, they are both so sexy looking. Even after they both got older, they are so sexy looking. Love them both.

Trucking music was a subset of country music and it started much earlier than people think. Like really in the 1940s and it reached a crescendo in early 1970s when it was basically turned into a caricature of itself and lampooned although lovingly in popular movies at the time, like, Convoy. But don't let anybody ever tell you that that's real Trucking music because it kind of is but mostly it's not. If you love story telling like I can tell you do, you got to check out some of the classic Trucking songs. Red Sovine doing his storytelling hit Teddy Bear, will blow you away, I promise. I've been a fan and commenting since I subscribe the number of weeks ago, I think around Elvis Presley. So you know I wouldn't steer you wrong. You would absolutely love it.

I can tell the back of your mind was starting to think about the real meaning of this by the second chorus when you started the catch some more of the lyrics and you for a second look pretty questioning like what's going on here? That gave me goosebumps. I heard this a lot as a kid and I had no idea what it was about other than I love the sound of his voice and it made all the older women in my family cry. But once it hits you man, it's so powerful. Now you can go back to the verses and there is so much foreshadowing with the lyrics but it's a very clever song that was a huge hit for George Jones early on in his career and it's still regarded as one of the greatest country songs of all time. And it's one of the greatest love songs of all time.

One of George's many greats. The only reason he stopped loving her is because he died. He loved her until the day he died even though they were broken up. Hard song to hear because so many people go through life like that. None the less, it's a fabulous song. Please check out his song Grand Tour, Mama Take Me Home and You're Still on My Mind. Now those are some story telling songs!

In some parts of the US, wreath is placed on the door of deceased persons, to let others in the community know that the person has passed away. Listen to the very first line of the song. That is the key to understandong the song.

I think I have an incredible reaction video recommendation for you. It's by a relative unknown rock singer apart from his sizable 775k+ RU-vid subscribers. His name is Dan Vasc. He describes himself on his channel as a #1 Amazon charting metal singer, composer, youtuber. He did a rendition of a song most have already heard 100+ versions. If it wasn't the best rendition of it, it was in the top 2. Search for the music title "Metal singer performs Amazing Grace". This video has 3.5M views. I searched for reactions to this video and a ton of smaller channels have reacted to this song. Without exception, all of them were blown away by this video. I think it's perfect for your channel. Incredible vocals. Incredible transitions. Incredible emotion. So much to react to.

Listen again, with this in mind. (I’m sure someone else mentioned it) The day he stopped loving her was the day he died. He was dressed up in his casket. The wreath on the door was a tradition in the south letting people know somebody did. She came to see him one last time at the funeral. Carrying him away is a reference to the pallbearers carrying the casket to the grave.

Also, you should check out the lyrics too because the song itself is super clever. It makes fun of people who don’t pay attention to the meanings of songs but just love the hook
