Amazing song. How George learnt this I will never know. Incredible and all the off-beat displacements and odd-time rhythms. Probably one of the best dm songs ever written - both for drumming and the song itself. Props to Tony for some of the best drumming I've ever come across in dm, on ITDS. Amazing cover. Thanks.
Good luck. I have all the drum parts broken down, and this song is insanely technical. Some of the fills here are at 320bpm with some extremely painful displacements and note value transitions.
This is the only song that I even have a hope of keeping up with George Kollias on :-D It may also be the slowest thing he has ever played but that's not hte point! :-D
+Carter. What do you mean? What 'style' are you referring to? What brutal/technical death metal? GK has played for Nile for over a decade, and this cover is great albeit with all the distractions going on. Played this live when I've seen them and had it down all the time. He has played on other stuff that is just as technical than this song; may not be as memorable as this, as this is Nile, but I don't know what your 'expectations' exactly are - apart from the song sounding as close to the record as can be. (I mean: do you really think TL laid down this track 'exactly' every live show? No way). Anyway, the song and drumming is amazing. :)
+Carter. Ok. But there are people saying he played it better. I'm not disputing what you said, just... it's subjective most of the time. Matter of perception and/or opinion. Can I ask: what aspects were better with Tony's live version? Are you insinuating that George's version is so sub-par to aforementioned one? You just can't come out with a sentence like that and not expect to be questioned and asked to demonstrate/break down what you mean. Otherwise, it comes across as ignorant and arrogant.
toolband1992 LOL if I post one comment on youtube, means brown nosy little duppys like you are entitled to an explanation right? Haha it's all subjective man like you said, but not once did I imply george played a bad performance of this song now did I? I'm just saying this isnt his style of drumming like listen to how he accents his cymbals compared to Tony's, I'm not feeling the same vibe here. I've said it once and i'll say it again: kollias might be Nile's best drummer technically speaking, but his work is not as memorable as Nile's first 3 albums. That same shit he pulls off in every song is boring as hell.
+Carter. Whatever, mate. I didn't say you 'owe' me an explanation, merely that don't get pissed when you get called out to expand on a stupid point without reason (on the surface initially. Brown-nosing? Me? No just a really big fan, and don't like opinions that I don't feel are valid seeing he has such a multifaceted body of work and feel the song was/is done well. I think you connoted it in your original post. Accenting is done a lot by him and has produced some of the best parts in Nile's catalogue. But ITDS is either #1 or #2 as best drumming record by Nile - even in the top-ten of best ever. I acknowledge your point(s), and you don't have to justify your post but if I it was role-reversal, it might be a little different... Bottom line: let's just enjoy the music and drumming. Simple as that. Cool. :)
