A damn shame. THX 1138 is an underrated, dystopian gem. Not for all tastes, but, beautifully filmed and executed.

I remember watching you, in a San Fran park shaving a girls hair. A girl watching made a statement "I would never shave my head". Your comment was "You wouldn't shave your head to be a star?" A few year later I seen the show THX1138. It really cought my imagination, and memories of that day. Later in life I realized I was watching a great person who brought joy, and more excitment to millions.

That can be said of almost anyone in Hollywood, though moreso for some than others. Despite the bashings he's been taking and his recent missteps, I still hold Lucas in high regard. When one looks back over everything he did during the creation of his original Star Wars trilogy, it's quite staggering.

George Lucas is a true filmmaking genius, seriously : No gratuitous violence, sex or profanity in his movies yet he packs them in solid. It takes true talent to pull something like that off. How I wish Lucas had done Avatar...Jim Cameron beat him to the punch.

Lucas has been a pioneer in pushing forward the digital era:thanks to him we can make films on our computers filmed by digital cameras. He was working on nonlinear editing and digital cameras back in the 80's.One thing is that he overused digital effects without the right balance in story with the new trilogy, and the other thing is that he totally deserve recognition to change moviemaking to make it available to everybody with a true passion for telling an story. Before, that was studios power only

A little known fact is that George was one of the cameramen at the Rolling Stones free concert at Altamont in Dec. 69. He may have even been the one who caught the fatal stabbing on camera.

I respect Lucas, but his career is bitter-sweet. Whenever he makes a film in the spirit of American Zoetrope, it tends to come out far more avant-garde then projects like "The Crystal Skull" I admire Coppola, and Lucas' ability to pen scripts where they could make stars. IE: Hopper,Dreyfus,Ford, the list goes on and on. I wish there was more of an emphasis on helping young film-makers produce original low budget films while cultivating talent.

I am fond of the public image of George Lucas. Frankly, I am watching a lot of B movies about Space made before his work. Space films fell into 2 categories... Documentaries or celluloid devoid of any science or plot ! Even Peter Bogdonavitch did a re-edit and additional scenes for a Roger Corman project based on the Russian film footage 'Planeta Burr'. Kubrick 2001 was good, but no adrenaline. Using better tech and the action serial style was an evolution, not a revival. Thanks George.

It's like there are two Georges: The one who cares about art, and seems like a nice guy, And the one who ruins his old movies, and doesn't release the originals. What a facinating individual...

He’s always been more of an editor at heart than a writer/director, and he often did it to cover up mistakes or due to a lack of quality footage. I think it sort of evolved to over-editing later on in his career - more desert rocks, more CG space monsters!

He's an artist who believes in the rights of the artist to do what they want with their art. He was unhappy and miserable making the Original Trilogy as he had to compromise left and right. You should read Jonathan Rinzler's Making Of Star Wars books. You can see why he'd want to go back and fix them one day. He also fixed the Prequels too. He cares more for his own satisfaction than what others think. This is the way it should be as any true art is personal.

You mean the overall sense of overusing special effects? The fact how actors in his late efforts act, is very down the path actors accomplished so far. We all know it is a balance between believable, non-believable. Lucas his latter affairs are in a lot of ways not believable. Starwars was. THX was believable.
