@@claudiocruzat7667 man, even Steve Vai uses AXE FX (since 2010?). It's not a matter of the gear they're using, it's a matter of how they are playing. Also, from point of view, all these supposed shredders don't understand that's not a matter of how many notes per second you can play per se, but how many notes you can play and still being recognizable. You can spot the great guitarist after couple of notes, whether they're playing fast or not, because they've character, personality in their playing. Which is what is lacking in nowaday "shredders"

This is why i study lots of different guitarists like him, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Greg Howe, Jason Becker, and lots of others rather than just trying to copy someone specific and just being content with that. Over the past two years especially i’ve been trying to find my own sound so i can at least have that kind of advantage even if my picking isn’t entirely as clean as people like Paul yet. I don’t want to fall into the trap of having no notable playing style that differs from everyone else. I’m still working on stuff to be posted but i’ll have things to post here soon. He thanks his guitar teacher twice in this video, but it is his instructional. That gives him juju-mojo over many guitar players. I like that he explains everything he plays or demonstrated from his records in detail. If you really pay attention, he actually does more techniques of sounds and scales than many well known guitar players. George's first example of diminished arpeggios in this video was more dynamic than how Yngwie plays them.

It's kinda strange how some things work out. Most of the time a person gets into guitar, or drums, or any other instrument due to one guy, or one band. As a kid growing up in the 70's, the major names I can remember listening to were Nugent, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Boston...the big boys. But then something really clicked in my head when I bought my first Dokken album. I was 16 and really into the 80's metal scene, and Lynch really connected with me. I bought an ESP and Randall amp so I could learn all the Lynch stuff (back then, I thought you had to have the same gear as the player!). Of course there's Eddie, but right there with him was Lynch. Of all the hundreds of guitarist who could have reached that 16 year old kid, he was the one I admired the most.

Bought my first guitar, and took two guitar lessons. My instructor worked with me on basic bar chords. Near the end of the lesson he asked me if I had a song I would like to learn. I told him Dokken- It's Not Love. He showed me the the finger pickingat the beginning of the song, and said see if you learn this when you come back. I practiced all week. When I came backthe neck week I played it for him. He was surprised I put that little bit of vibrato in the right spots. He said I might be a pretty good student. Unfortunately I had to stop taking lessons from him when I had to move away to a place so small there was no music store to continue lessons. That's when tab book's, and magazines became popular. They helped a lot until RU-vid came out, and I learned some tab books were terrible. Thanks to several good guitar teacher's on here thing's that didn't quite sound right before was fixed.

THANK YOU!!!! I had a vhs of a bunch of musicians and one was George Lynch and he did this jam that started with this tapping that was so awesome but I lost the tape but at 13:37 is where it starts. :-)

What pisses me off is that the opening Jam isn't a song that he actually released. Fuck, it's so freaking cool.

*Lynch is one of my favorites! .... but cool to see Max Norman engineering. He produced & engineered alot of metal records, especially Ozzy's first 3 records plus live albums, Lynch Mob, Megadeth, Y&T, Loudness and others.*

Max Norman, but of a coincidence at the start, Max as people probably know produded Diary of a Madman and Blizzard of Ozz. George was suggested by Randy as a replacement for Musonia, George also tried out for Ozzy. I also hear the diminished scales at the start of George's lead which was something Randy utilised a lot in his own playing.

Man this is awesome.. gonna enjoy the hell out of this one Many thanks for uploading this gem!

Worst "instructional" video ever, but you gotta love it. My buddies and I chipped in for this back in the day. We were in awe, but disappointed, too say the least. He's gotten way better at teaching and promoting. He's learned to separate the 2. Super nice guy, though. One of those friends met George at a signing. My friend noticed it was George and went on line to say hi. He walked up and said hey bro, just wanted to say you're awesome and it's nice to meet you. George said thank you very sincerely and asked if he could sign something for him. My buddy told him he was in the mall and didn't have anything. He wasn't there in anticipation of seeing him. He said cool but he still offered to sign clothing or whatever. It was really nice his told him and then told him he was the reason he switched from drums to guitar and his style and creativity was what caused him to love the guitar and he was grateful. George looked him dead in the eye and asked "are you serious? “ he came around the table and hugged my friend. Told him that was sweet and touching thing to say. Very awesome experience. Wish i^there. George is the best, imo. Love the guy. Not a fan of this tape for instruction, but it is a classic.

"Here's what it sounds like played quick." Shit, I thought that WAS quick!! I wish they would make these instructional videos for mortals who are just beginning to solo instead of players who are already 9/10's of the way to Shredmeister status. I guess I'll just have to be content to playing Smoke On The Fcuking Water...

I remember seeing George at a party in La Puente California 1975. at the time I was a guitar teacher, anyways, he was sitting there noodling around with a Strat I think (sitting on a couch) and he had both hands on the neck of the guitar with fingers flying (tapping) and as a guitar teacher, I didn't know wtf he was doing! I asked him, excuse me, WTF are you doing please? he said "tapping". I grabbed a beer and sat down watching what he was doing and I figured it out shortly thereafter. I talked to him a little, got his first and last name and asked where he learned "tapping", he said "from messing around". 3 years later on the radio, I hear "Eruption" by a guy named Eddie Van Halen and that same "tapping" that I heard George doing at that party in '75.....I thought it was George at first lol!! no!! my first thought was, EVH ran into George at a party and ran with that "tapping" idea. my second thought was....the same as the first. George got robbed, but since EVH does that "tapping" better and 90% of the time, those millions of $$ goes to the robber who got away with the loot.

@The Beach Guy You're right, however it was first heard in a club in the 60s and proceeded to bore the audience because it had no real context (apparently) Eddie Van Halen, who never claimed to invent it, took it to a whole new level by making it exciting and applying it to Rock with a classical approach. It's not who invented it, but who found the best application and performance of the style.
@panama1942

Well, George's tapping is much more complex here. And modern shredders mostly use this style of tapping, rather than that simple EVH lick.

Man, I remember getting this video as a kid and working on all the stuff in it so much that 30 years later I still hear a lot of that stuff come out when I play. George is easily in the top 5 when it comes to my biggest guitar influences. His tone, especially during this era had a massive impact on how I dial in my tones.
