I've been digging Goerge music lately. He just gets to you in everything he's done. Soul, ballad, pop, dance, jazz you name it. This guy is Legend. He won Grammy for Album of the year and be the first white male to win the AMA soul artist.
Can you believe this is from 1996? that's like the mid 90's, still looks and sounds pretty modern, love when music could be this smooth and still become popular. The song sampled was Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" and you're right Will Smith also used it just a year later, but sorry dude, no comparison between those two, Will can't blow like George no pun intended lol. I just subscribed, looking forward to more GM reactions and definitely some Bowie :)
No she did not. He credits the writers of Forget Me Not as he sampled it on this track. The rest of this song is entirely written and arranged/produced by George!
One of the best male singer songwriters of our generation. True legend and it came about after he died that he gave millions of his own pounds to charity without mentioning it, this shows great character and not just wanting to shout it from the roof tips for publicity. He was treated shockingly by the media around the world
I am so glad you reacted to George Michael 😊❤️❤️❤️ Fast love is my favorite George Michael song 😍😍😍😍 you should react to him singing Somebody to Love at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992...he stole the show that night...
Spinning the Wheel is so super Jazzy. George was amazing in that he could write a dripping sweet bubblegum pop song, A Soulful R&B song, a funky dance Groove, and super Jazzy songs as well. He was an amazing talent. So many people missed out because they didn't get past the teenage years of bubblegum music he put out. But in those teenage years this amazing artist was emerging.
I really have to tell you about OUTSIDE, I't fantastic. However, check out on BBC Parkinson's show live with George Michael. This rendition is crazy. Notice how he gets into the grove before he sings one word. And at the end " how humble he is" There two moe, A different corner, the long and winding road. Faith after that. You won't be disappointed. I promise!
I totally agree the comparison to Will Smith just doesn't make sense. George Michael was a freaking genius. Writing composing arranging playing the instruments and producing all his music. He's had a career that spanned 40 years. He was a massive massive star in the UK and Europe. Music critics in the UK put him up there with Lennon and McCartney for songwriting and composing. The man had a voice like Silk that just melted you when you heard him alive. He was one of those rare artists that sounded better live than his Studio work. I was so fortunate to see him several times in concert.
It was about no strings attached fast love using high visuals, fashion the belts Vivienne Westwood signature, incorporating the old tunes - forget me nots
He had some great songs, some of his best vocals IMO, are "I can't make you Love Me", and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". Some of his other top ones that come to mind are "Faith" , "Father Figure", "I Want your Sex", all very 90s music.
If you can find it George Michael singing Freedom and like Jesus to a child at the mtv awards in Berlin. It’ll knock your socks off. It was 1994. So good.
If you want to really hear some amazing vocals, go way back to the 80s and listen to One More Try. Also he did a special UK unplugged, where his vocals are beyond outstanding.
If you want to hear his powerful range, react to Brother Can you Spare a Dime. He sang at the charity concert, Pavarotti, and Friends! Is nobody like George, this is a talent we will not see ever again. I’m glad I grew up during his era.
You don’t look like you’re trying to get into the music at all. You’re just watching it and making comments about it, like watching CNN news. Doesn’t make it enjoyable for me.
The thing about this song is not the video, even if it is a nice one. The song is interesting because George was still morning the pass of his partner, and the song suggests that he was not ready to another commitment yet, he begs for some piece of mind that (he hopes) a fastlove could bring to him.
Oh!, and another amazing song that he covered that is not live is, "they won't go when I go" (Stevie wonder cover). He doesn't have a actual music video to it, but it shows you a little more taste of range he had.
I think at this time he was having issues with Sony so was having little digs at them, not sure what the issue was but I know they wasn’t seeing eye to eye on something - great video mate 👍🏻
terrys461 This was after he left Sony. He felt they didn't support and promote his follow up album. Sony wanted another version of faith due to its success, whereas George wanted to grow as a songwriter and avoid repeating himself
I've been researching and trying to find the names of the 4 or more hip hop dancers that show up about middle of this video. I would like to see more of their dancing. This video rocks. 20 years later
The video for Outside is a good one, the back story is he was arrested for a “toilet cubical tryst” with the arresting officer. The whole video is a piss take of the L.A cops.
George Michael's last Christmas... Hmmmm...how old are you? You're damn too good looking... Slow love is always better than fast love..it never fades...
You mention Men I Black: You're absolutely right! That sequence was borrowed to the MIB-theme by Will Smith. GM did borrow the "Forget me nots" from a 70s artist. Donna Summer??
