This is a concert, and it is the first song he opened his concert with. It is spectacular. A charity concert backed by Princess Diana’s Concert for Hope. If you know anything about George, he gave almost half of his money away to charities, and good causes and people that were ill and the homeless and the list goes on and on. All of the proceeds from this concert were given to Aids research. You can catch the entire concert on RU-vid and you should because it is utterly fantastic , especially the mashup he does of killer/Papa was a Rolling Stone. You’ll be absolutely thrilled if you search out this concert and enjoy it. George had the same backing vocalist for 20 to 30 years. They were completely and utterly devoted to him and vice versa. He had the most spectacular live voice. So blessed that I saw him in concert before he passed. What a loss to the music world. This man could do it all. He could write, arrange compose and produce his music. The duets alone he did with singers from the black community tell it all. He was a gift.
I was fan since day one. I flew from Europe to Chicago to see him in 2008. I'm so glad I did. This guy sounds better live than any singer I saw. Miss this man RIP
He has had the same backing singers since Faith and the rest of his career they are fantastic so is he I adore him he has the voice of angel, that is from the concert of hope 1993 for aids charity brilliant 💜
Watch the whole concert. You won’t be disappointed. He does “One more try” in gospel version. Best I’ve heard. This was his band n backup singers. They stayed with him for years.
George won the AMA for best soul singer back in the 80s beating out Jackson n Brown. He was always played on urban stations. When he won, black people were pissed including Gladys Knight. They stopped playing him on urban station. He was so hurt, he left America n went back to England. He had an interview stating he can’t understand why America is so black/white. Same shit we living today. He was really great friends with Stevie Wonder.
He is a crossover artist, though he admired and was inspired so much by the Afro-American styles of music, he also added Middle Eastern, European classical, Hispanic, Hellenic etc vibes into his songs. But the singing style is completely unique - I can not refer to any other artist in his voice/timbre and manner of singing. When I first heard George Michael - an that was in songs from Faith, I was blown away by out of this world feeling. It was something genius, head-turning, and inspiring, but I felt so related to the voice and style that I was grabbed to try to find out how to sing that way... Also thanks to George for inspiring me to learn English - I wanted to find out what he is singing about, and that was another rabbit hole to lose myself in, as for example this song - for me, when I was a post-soviet teenager - what is "father figure", all that passion described in the song... a total ocean of absolutely new things. Maybe the saddest thing is that I have never been to his concert. But maybe it is good - I have my own image of him and his contribution, and the life event... in fact, I am not enjoying live events, except opera and jazz concerts. I don't like shows, crowds, etc. It makes everything much cheaper for me. Thank you, George! RIP, Maestro!
This concert of Prince's Trust Rock Gala took place in 1993 and George Michael sang Father Figure, Freedom, One More Try, Love's In Need Of Love Today, Killer/Papa Was A Rollin' Stone at that time. The whole concert is worth watching. My favorite is the last song, a cover version consisting of two songs, Adamski/Seal and The Temptations mixed together, awesome and funky.
This is not the Prince Trust Rock Gala. This is the Concert of Hope in 1993. If you watch the entire concert George introduces "Her majesty the Princess of Wales. Diana asked George to do this concert and the entire performance is absolute perfection.
I thought this was Black Thought/Tobe Nwigwe/Royce - Father Figure song... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zBNMj2GGjps.html has nothing to do with this one but , its fire... this too tho.... GM was that dude for sure... Seether re-did a song of his Careless Whisper course everyone knows that one... but that was good cover
