I watched a Channel 4 News article about climate change last night and some of the people talking about the rains for the increase in farming in Brazil. They were really only interested in their own farms and not in the surrounding rain forest, as if they really didn’t care about it, only inasmuch as it could serve their purposes.

I think, what Monbiot means with "celebrity culture" is closely related with "the culture is narcissism" written by Christopher Lasch.

Organic farming is a form of agriculture that depends on various techniques such as vermicomposting, crop rotation, green manure, Animal Husbandry, Bio fertilizers and biological pest control. Organic farming is the form of doing crop/plant cultivation by using organic manures which are eco friendly manures that supports the life of soil and other useful organisms in the soil. Organic farming is an adapted practice in developing countries, where farmers use animals for tilling the land and manures prepared by dung and other waste material of animals. I wish LOVE IT TV will discuss Organic Farming as a subject to make us aware what can be done to promote this technique, in opposition to Mechanised Farming.

The fact that it's not seen on a large scale on here, is an example of the very problem the debate represents....

Thinking inside the BOX infact and engineering a a consent operation, the UN and World Banks can't demand a new system, they need a social movement to demand it.

In a way, we are a complex interacting organism of organisms, like bees, working on evolving structural formulas that keep evolving with our understanding, a bit chaotic but enlivened at the branch tips as we learn and test new or rework old ideas which can change hive structure if they offer a better arrangement within our enlarged concepts of the biotic atmospheric water and land world, or Gaia. We are at times: solitairy, family, larger group, and at times global. Yet motifs and patterns are common throughout ideas may spring into imagination like germinating seeds if conditions are right. Perhaps we are at a phase of molting the old shells off and entering a new form, still tussling with the growing process. Attempting to connect reductionistic mechanistic simplifications with a larger sense of things is a challenge, and yes, too often materialism and marketing draws us down to baser levels of thinking, I agree. Trees are like corals in coral reefs; colonies of cells sent in different pathways in each organism to collectively survive, built on a framework of cellulose, lignin, and water like the coral reef's calcium carbonate base. And in that complex tapestry of fungi and pollen, birds and squirrels, wind and water and lichens, soil and sunshine, in an almost magical dynamic of life the formula of which happens just as naturally as the fabric of the universe meant it to, niches form rhythmic patterns regardless of place, it's quite an amazing thing to behold that it almost defies comprehension. We are part of it, we are comprehending it, next we must integrate our existence better with Gaia. I commend these fine individuals for their generous visions of how to practically accomplish that more perfect union with one another and with Gaia.

Very informative conversation. I think John Ralston Saul also has a lot to say about celebrity culture in his book Unconscious Civilization .

George Monbiot is a hero and a genius. The Bahai spiritual system given to us by Baha"u"llah [the Glory of God] in the 1800s is already in place around the planet. I think it is time to look at this spiritual system of politics, business , a civilisation based on spiritual principles instead of the materialistic systems that has brought humanity to this point.

None of these COP meetings will have any serious effect. The game changer is the lowering price of wind and solar generated power below the cost of fossil fuel generated energy. If COP could have delivered one thing - namely the elimination of all subsides, direct and indirect for fossil fuels. This includes them paying for their health effects, destruction of the environment and so forth. Then the conversion would progress apace.
