George Paton's 2021 draft class for the Denver Broncos received high praise. The class includes standout players like Patrick Surtan and Quinn Meinerz, who are considered franchise cornerstones. Other notable picks include Javonte Williams, Caden Sterns, Jonathan Cooper, and Baron Browning. While not every pick worked out, the overall draft class is considered an A+ due to the number of potential starting players it produced. George Payton's synergy with head coach Sean Payton and the hope for continuity in the franchise are also highlighted.

Thus far it is an A verging on A+ if Bo Nix works out well. Cannot really grade a draft for four years. However, the last two drafts sure look good thus far.

@@billbellell9462 This years looks great, but last year? Sanders and Moss need to do something. If Forsythe can be a solid starter, it'll help. Mims is a good returner, but vanished as a receiver (and that wasn't totally his fault, but still, need to see more). The year before that? The Bonitto and Dulcich draft? Yikes. We need a handful of those guys to make a solid impact this year.

On average I'd give him a C, maybe a B- The 22 and 23 draft classes really dropped the overall grade. We need like 5 or 6 of those guys to make themselves known this year. If that happens, I think the Broncos could surprise some people.

I think Broncos will have a quiet nice defense this year. No big names but chemistry all together

Kary Vincent Jr. was traded to the Eagles for a 6th round 2022 pick, which we turned into Matt Henningsen, a decent rotational player on the D-line. So add that the list of value picks.

It was an excellent class. Had Javonte not got hurt, it would be even better. The '22 and '23 classes, on the other hand, better do something and do it quick. We need them to. I know we were hamstrung without 1st round picks those years, but still. We absolutely have to see progression from Bonitto, Dulcich, Mathis, Mims, Sanders, Moss, and I'll even throw Uwazurike in there for good measure. If a handful of those guys just naturally progress, we could actually have a winning season. I'm not saying playoffs, but a winning season, on the cusp. If guys like Caden Sterns and Greg Dulcich can finally stay healthy, our young roster could surprise some people. We need a couple of our pass rushers to take that next step. It can happen. It's not unheard of. We need our defense to help carry Bo Nix until he gets some games under his belt.

In defense of Paton.. 2021-nailed it. A- draft. 2022- old owner forced him to make terrible Wilson trade prior to sale. 2023 - new owners neutered Paton and gave final say on draft to Sean Payton.

Joe Ellis didn’t force Paton to make that trade, he completely panicked with Hackett when Rodgers wasn’t coming back to Denver

@@Kodiakk That's right. Ellis didn't have anything to do with it. It was Elway who promised if he hired Hackett, he could close the deal on Rodgers. Based on his skill luring Peyton Manning here, I could see why Paton listened, but you're totally right. He freaked out when Rodgers went back to GB. These 22 and 23 draft classes better step it up quick. It's time. If we're going to do anything this season, we need a handful of those guys to naturally progress into starters.

But that doesn't get George Paton, who I like, off the hook for his selections. It's largely been 2 draft classes in a row of not much contribution, outside of Bonitto as a situational pass rusher, and Marvin Mims as a RET guy. Gotta have more than that, I'm sorry. To compete in the NFL, you at least have to hit on contributors, not guys who can't see the field.

@@78LedHead well said. Paton’s 4 biggest moves (Gregory, trading for Russ, hiring Hackett, drafting Surtain)…have mostly been disasters only one of them has actually worked out. I just don’t really like how this roster was constructed. We have some high upside guys but the problem is we only have 2 verified, bonafide above average players at their positions (Meinerz and PS2), Paton should get credit for that but our roster is in a really bad spot, and it’s pretty much his whole doing.

Gp has been overly criticized, yes rw trade was disaster, but 99 out 100 ppl would made that trade at time, just the extension was atrocious bcuz it was early but even then he was trying to save us $ in long run, that's why greg Penner didn't fire him bcuz he understood the logic behind it.....but doesn't matter, his drafts have always been good, even last few yrs it's just there's no splash to them bcuz of lack of 1st & 2nd rd picks, we had to pick developmental players which take time....he was be vindicated in end but everyone will say it bcuz of sp instead of him, but doesn't matter as long as he keeps developing as gm broncoscounty will be fine in long run

You have a right to your own opinion but for me George Paton lacks the ability to make good picks on his own

I think he’s best in a support role to a HC like Payton for sure. I think I mentioned that in this video, how I think he’s better fit to help find the guys for a vision set forth from a HC, rather than him be the one setting the vision
