"I know because I grew up with kids like that! And I didn't work my ass off to let that happen to you!" Having immigrant parents with a similar background, that line was way too real.
Yeah. My dad grew up in Chicago in a very bad neighborhood. My uncle got jumped by a gang and ended up in the hospital. My dad was one time driving around with two friends of his that were girls and a gang started chasing them. My dad drove like a mad man to protect the girls he was with. He also had his own gang and beat up anyone who messed with him and his family. He lived through hell. He sacrificed a lot and grew up to be a better man so my siblings and I didn't have to go through what he did.

I don't know. Angie could become REALLY tough when she REALLY needed to like when Carmen threatened to run away again. She REALLY went off on Carmen like any normal Parent would do....Even Carmen was SHOCKED. Angie made it clear that Carmen needed to stop being an ungrateful Brat and be grateful she had a Family who cared about her and Carmen saw the light....
I mean I can understand standing up for your friends or family, and that’s all well and good, but there’s a fine line between doing the right and wrong thing in life. If the kid attacks your friends or something, you get him off and let the authorities handle it before you get yourself killed. If he just calls him a name you all walk the other way and ignore it. You respond like Max that’s how you feed into their bad habits and this is the road you go down. Luckily Max had some great parents to keep him from doing something he’d probably regret later in life, or worse wind up dead on the streets cause some crazy people decide to get into a gun fight or something with him god forbid. This show had some great life lessons tbh.
Max wasn't the smartest kid in the bunch. But he didn't do anything wrong. Because the life lesson here is always defend your friends. Because that's something that I would do. But I'm in a gang and don't care if I get arrested or in trouble. Because I'm 33 years old and I know what I'm talking about for real.
Yeah. But with too many accidental pregnancies, parents don't want to do that for their kids, they want to do the bare minimum because they didn't want their kid(s) in the first place. It's really messed up man
Exactly, sometimes a good ass beating is a valuable lesson compared to a “talk”. Kids won’t listen to talking, but they’ll listen to a kick in the ass for sure. The problem is people take everything to the next level so unfortunately you can’t get away with that stuff nowadays because of crazy pricks beating their own kids to death usually over small issues.
@@miner2268 Honestly I never got beaten but the kids that I know they got the spanking their parents always talked to them afterwards as well they did both never just one or the other. Me and my siblings did learn a lesson from talking to but that doesn't work with everyone
@@thefighter5182 look those kids are going to end up in prison I know because I grew up with kids like that and I didn’t work my ass off the let that happen to you
This is why two parents with different parenting styles can help a child. People like max and carmen are great examples. max acts out and is destructive, carmen is self destructive and repressed. For kids like max, the best thing is to be tough but also nuturing like george could be. carmen on the other hand needs an understanding and teachable moment, possibly from angie. However, if angie was only nuturing to max, he actually would be a thug because he's actually dumb enough to believe he'd get away with it and george would turn carmen into a junkie or prostitute because of calling her a junkie or whore. A balance always helps
There was too much peer pressure, that's what the main problem was. George could have eased up a little and Angie could have been a tad more strict though.
@@Sokkq There were multiple episodes where Angie became VERY tough. The episode where Carmen threatened to run away again was Angie's crowning achievement Moment. Angie was a PISSED and tough MOTHER in that episode, not a cuddly Friend. I remember Fans saying something like,"If Angie had acted more tough like in this episode, George Lopez would have been even better."
@@Sokkq I don’t remember which episode it was but Benny told Angie off one time that she needed to be a little tougher on her kids and shouldn’t be soft just cuz she was spoiled being the daughter of Vic
I dont think she needs to be as strict but be for firm sometimes. There has to be a balance between parenting not good cop vs bad cop. But Angie has points that sometimes you don't need to be at an 11 all the time. Being so strict and loud just put to much on the kid that will make it harder for them to listen or the become little sargents with no emotion or free will

That’s true but it works both ways. George was too strict but Angie was very weak. She’s the one who let the kids manipulate her into giving them everything they wanted.
That was actually a completely different Episode. Max smashed a Racist's Stereotypical Statues, one of them being a sleeping Mexican, and Max proudly filmed himself smashing the Stereotypical Statues and showed it to George expecting George to be proud of him. George was disappointed, troubled, and dismayed. George says something like,"In that video, all I saw was a little thug!" And Max was confused on why George wasn't proud. In Max's defense, George and Benny had egged the Racist's house or something like that beforehand and were celebrating, so Max thought George would be proud of him for doing that.
(After watching the car chase) (Max sits on his bed and upset door knocks) Max-go away I don’t want any visitor (George enters the room) George-uh it’s just me listen max can we talk Max-why don’t you go to Carmen’s room with hose if she’s doing anything bad George-ok I know what I did was wrong I shouldn’t hose you like that I’m sorry it’s how my mom disciplines me and I hope I don’t become like her Max-please dad you may have the good looks but you don’t have the craziest personality where you can loaf around and do crazy things George-listen I wasn’t happy when you ganged up on someone or when you’re banned at the mall yes you are gonna get punish but I just want was best for to have friends and it’s was a mistake to hook you up with those boys Max-I just don’t want them to think I’m a loser George-max Lopez you are not a loser you’re just a boy who can skateboard do cool stunts and have awesome hair which I wish I handy hose off but your mom and I are proud of you for who you are and we hope you don’t become a juvenile delinquent Max-do you really mean George-you know I do so what do say no hard feelings about the hose and you won’t do anything bad Max-yeah (Both fist bump)
0:07 "Don't be too hard on yourself. Once your kid goes down that road, there ain't much he can do". What a horrible, lazy father. It's like he doesn't even care his son will end up in juvie. It's parents like those who need a good kick in the pants.
