Holy shit, this interview is ANCIENT. At one point he's talking about HBO having optioned Game of Thrones, and him working on it with Benioff and Weiss. This puts the interview in 2006 (based on timelines from Wikipedia). That's 17 years ago. And here I thought I was listening to something recent. I'm not against people posting older stuff. But at least mention it in the video title or the description. People should be able to choose whether they want to watch something so outdated.

He has certainly been touched by many writers during his lifetime, but it always quickens my heart to hear the fondness he still has for Tolkien's writing and work. Of course they are different writers and George RR Martin has certainly succeeded in individuating his work from Tolkien, but it's nice to hear how the Lord of the Rings remains a perennial classic among the fantasy community, even from its most elevated figures.

I always liked George RR Martin and big fan asoiaf. He's always genuinely himself and whatever your opinion is about the wait for winds of winter, I would say he truly cares and is grateful for his fan base. Maybe its just be but the difference between someone like him and what Patrick Rothfuss has done the last few years is day and night. And yes, Strider is way cooler than Aragon
