@@sirnigga9918 the one channel Order of the green hand argues that Jon is the son of Ned and Ashara Dayne and the Aegon in the books sho lands in the storm lands is Lyanna and Rheagars son
I mean, he wasn't wrong. Hell, when he came back from the wall and passed by winterfell with a gift to Bran (so that Bran could be able to ride a horse after his injury), Robb treated him with disgust and contempt for no other reason than that Ned had obviously told him about Tywin and Jaime. And once Robb realised the unjust insult he had given Tyrion and tried to start treating Tyrion as an actual guest, Tyrion just blew him off and left.
Guys I’m not saying that they don’t deserve it but 1, they were responsible for the first couple seasons, too, (even if they did have George helping them out) and 2, after a while, I’m tired of hearing about them. The worst thing you could do to a show is forget it. But you have been raging for the past who mows how long about them, and all that’s doing is just making it more well known.
@@jayoctopus8832 the worst thing you can do is keep bringing it up to reserve their level of infamy. The backlash worked enough with their star wars contract.
@@kylevalentine5431 Strong. Brave. Headstrong. I think Robert would have liked him, he represents things Robert respects. Far better than any of Robert's "children".
@@HyperIonMake yes yes that's all true.....IF he was a legitimate child, but as he is a bastard that just came from a night of passion.... robert literally doesnt care about his kids
When I first I started watching this and reading the comments, I was confused. I was all like “why do so many people hate Dungeons and Dragons here?”. Then I realized it was short for David and Dan, and then I felt very stupid for a long time
Ya man there hacks for real the minute they ran out of source material like jn the final season they butchered it so bad its called the greatest tv show ever with thebworstbfinal season ever and that was there ideas they wereboraided from the start as geniuses but once R.R Martin wasnt finished they needed there ien dialogue and writing to finish it and it was fucking a spit in the face to the franchise the characters etc it was utter shit there complete hacks
The fact that the "battle of the bastards" was so much better shot and more impressive than the final battle with the White Walkers says a lot about how this show went down the drain in the end.
@Josh Traffanstedt I'm pretty sure that's how Martin intended for her character to end up. Just not in a single episode. He would have probably built it up properly and justified it. But we know he told D&D the ending. But it's the journey that matters not the destination, so from out perspective as viewers it was a shit show.
@@cabalpaxiarch7239 right, there was heavy foreshadowing for Daenerys madness, but it can't be done properly in a couple of episodes. Man they sped up so much the process after season 5, they should have done it in 10 seasons
@@strongarm8937 Yes, well that would have been quite the feat. I mean, they were phoning it in at a certain point. They even left a starbucks cup at a winterfell celebration. It was clear they were tired and wanted to move on. Plus the actors' fees had skyrocketed for the final 2 seasons.
I always thought the "bastard names" were interesting (I also have an inherent fascination with names in general). Something interesting, I live in a coastal city in China, and there's an orphanage nearby; all of the children who wind up there are given the family name "海 (hǎi)" meaning "sea" or "ocean" in Chinese. I never found out exactly why the orphanage director did that, but it reminded me of this.
thats sounds pretty cool. I have always love names that are not based on like "who your father was" and are based on something else like an occupation, place, or some other cool thing. Those kinds of names always seems to have some interesting story behind them if you go back far enough which makes history more interesting. Those kids will likely grow up and may find other people with the name "海" and they might find out they also had the same upbringing, giving them an instant deep connection to that other person
@@Michaelonyoutub I think part of the reason the director gave them that family name was so they would feel like a "family" with the other kids at the orphanage who shared that name.
I mean it's the orphanage, many kids don't really have any last names, so you just give them something. My friend's grandpa was from an orphanage and they gave him the last name of his favorite teacher. Or something like that, I don't exactly remember all the details, but anyway yes, just give them something, it doesn't really matter all that much
That's interesting. I never really thought about it the fact that people have a family name almost everywhere in the world I assume. it's kind of interesting considering the supposed vast differences between cultures. I need to read up on some of this stuff I guess I've been aware that some families run matriarchally and most run patriarchally but I just never really took the time to delve into that subject.
I'll give it to you Aegon, this videos are incredibly deftly made. Amazing editing; how you put in scenes related to whatever is being spoken about, the music, the transitions, all of it. Great work man. I really enjoy these videos.
Man the depth of the show in the first 5 seasons is on another level, if only the books were completed before the show, we would have a much better final season.
5th season was complete garbage and half of the 4th season was too. So many things from season 4 onward make no logical sense. Even though it’s a fantasy, it still has to make sense. It didn’t make sense though and was just fan service for the majority of the audience who didn’t read the books.
Really? Season 5 only had 1 good episode. Admittedly, that one episode is my favorite of the entire series but 1 episode does not make 1 season good/great. Season 5 was so badly written that the first thing they did in season 6 episode 1 was killed the story from Season 5.
It would only distract. An overload of characters is impossible to keep up in a visual medium. Mia Stone is a tertiary character, who is best left out unless she is supposed to tell a greater story, which would not fit the show.
I would've loved to see Mya and Alayne but I guess it wouldn't make sense. The show didn't have time to for alot of the amazing characters ( Lady Stoneheart etc)
Funny listening to Cersei roast Ellaria for being a Sand, yet all 3 of her children are bastards. Lol. Not that, that's the worst thing about her children. Being born of incest and all. But still, it would have been neat if she were more tolerant of bastards given her children being born bastards. It's also funny that Kit mentions Jon wants to lead the Night's Watch. I know it's not being King of the North or King of the 7 kingdoms but I always thought it was weird people said Jon wasn't a guy that wanted to lead. My first thought about Jon at the beginning was he was a kid that wanted to prove himself and become a great leader. He also thought highly of his abilities. Bit arrogant. So him not wanting to be King always felt off with my initial thoughts of Jon in the early seasons.
You see this a lot more in the books. He thinks to himself that he has always wanted Winterfell. When (if) he gets resurrected in the books, he might lose the part of himself that wants to stay in the Night’s Watch.
in the books Jon is more cunning and ambitious,he does resent the way he gets discriminated against his birth and he does want winterfell but he knows he won't get it,show Jon is a little meh to say the least
I love the idea of bastards, people with no talent, damaged individuals and people who are not special in any way rising up against the odds to take the nothing that they are and make something of themselves through willpower. I hate the idea of those same people finding out that they were in fact of some special origin all along. It strips their struggles of meaning.
I mean, just cause you're a bastard doesn't mean you're untalented, or damaged, or not special in anyway. Just means they were born to parents not married. It's a very medieval way to look at children. Most of the bastards in the show are actually quite remarkable. Cause they are just people like anyone else.
Thank you so much for these videos, Aegon. I just finished the show and these videos diving deeper in the books and lore made me start reading the books!
@@renaigh they’re saying that Arya is far more hot-headed than Ned would have been. “Wolf-blood” is a term used by the Starks to describe the few of their own who are particularly rash and unruly.
That was a pretty dumb line. A King's Landing boy would know that the highborn bastards in the Crownlands are Waters. Also, he didn't use a bastard surname because he had no idea his father was highborn.
Props to the actor playing Gendry, i mean, if we needed some sort of hint of how Robert was in his prime, my dude packaged the strenght and the badassery of young Robert very very well.
I wish Gendry had become king. If only for how funny it would be for it all end with a Baratheon back on the throne. And I stil wondering if Baratheon was the Targaryen bastard name?
I don't think Baratheon is bastard for Targeryen. The name sounds too badass and dignified. I think it's a title for Orys as blackfyre was for Daemon and Seastar was for Shaera.
I think that would have worked into Ned's hand. I am sure he doesn't want any of his children being king. Lol. Even if the one that is King is an emotionless bag of rocks. He also seemed to really respect the Baratheon family. He fought for Robert, believed in Stannis' claim to the throne, and even sought out Robert's son. Gendry being King would have been 100x better than Bran. Literally anyone would have been better. Stick Hot pie on the throne for all I give a fuck.
Honestly, its interesting to hear their take on things as long as you go in with the mindset that "this is how you can missunderstand something". D&D adapted the early seasons wonderfully, I think we all can agree on that, credit where credit is due; they worked themselves to having one of the most stressful jobs in the world.. But their own content is mediocre at best and they seem terribly missguided.
@@Hankshaw47 yeah. What everyone forgets is that they tried to write in 3 years what George RR Martin will likely take 20 to complete. Trying to wrap up Game of Thrones is no easy task; to say that this story is complicated is a hilarious understatement. They had a huge task, and, yes, they did it pretty poorly, but I don't think anyone could have done it well given the time constraints.
God I can’t watch anyone with DandD in it and not remember how dispassionate they and disrespectful they were to this story. The actors came to them with legitimate criticisms and questions, and D&D said--essentially-“dance monkey, dance.”
@@MrSqurk I agree, though Dumb and Dumber will always be my favorite nickname for those two. If I was any good at editing, I'd make a deep fake of that entire movie with their faces in it.
@@MrSqurk Haha, yeah, I guess so. I was probably exaggerating a little: watching a few scenes would be a hilarious laugh at their expense, but a whole movie of that would probably wear out the novelty before the end, anyway.
"Let me give you some advice, bastard, never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you." Has to be my favourite line in the entire series.
Good vid. In a lot of Martin videos he just repeats plain-to-see stuff that's in the books, so it's not news to anyone who actually read them. But here he adds his own insight into things.
Due to them being the most evil villan of all game of thrones, I have timestamped every part of the video that Dumb & Dumber show up in below. 2:20 - 2:31 2:36 - 2:45 3:03 - 3:12 4:17 - 4:55 5:19 - 5:27 5:33 - 5:44
@@darko-man8549 Game of thrones worst seasons were still better than most television at the same time. Although I will admit the Sansa Ramsey storyline was poor as well as the Dornish plot. Either way the point stands the the hate for D&D is unreasonable.
Christian B disagree that the worst was still better than most as an argument pro-GoT’s later seasons. The characters in seasons 7 & 8 are falling apart, consistency is out the window, the writing is not nearly as good, it relies more on battles. Someone made an excellent video on how the Dragons are used to emotionally manipulate us (not in a good writing sort of way). Just because it is Better than 50% of the huge amount of things made for TV does not make it good.
Interesting that when Ned reassured Jon of his Stark heritage, not once did he say “You are my son”. The words he chose were “You are a Stark” and “You have my blood”. That should’ve been a dead giveaway that he was actually his nephew.
Can we get a redo on the last season? I'm sitting here watching these videos thinking, I should watch those all again... then I remembered.... lord how disappointing.
My father was a bastard. Was the product of an office romance. Similarly to what happened to Peggy in Madmen. Was adopted by a political science professor who went on to be the Dean of his department and a librarian. He is now a Director for a big organization and founded a million dollar company which went belly up because they did not want to engage in clientalism. Thinking of writing something about that.
I always thought wouldn't gendry being king if it wasn't going to be John Danny be a better ending then the dude that said he couldn't be king in the north but could be king of the world🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😓😪
Jon will still be a bastard in the books. The fact that D&D named him Aegon is laughable. Oh and that stupid annulment from Rhaegar. They combined both Jon and Young Griff characters.
George said that he would only let D&D make the show if they correctly guessed Jon's heritage, meaning Jon actually is Aegon. Maybe Young Griff is an imposter?
Why wouldn’t you have GRRM have the final say in the outcome for the writing/direction of the show, sure have writers to take the brunt of the workload but the fact D&D negotiated to have full oversight is kinda impressive on their part, they literally rushed the last 2seasons so they could go to do Star Wars which evtenually go cancelled
Why on earth would they put D&D in any of this videos!?!?!?!?!? It makes my soul burn every time I hear them try and explain anything to do with ASOIAF.
If I had a choice, I would be a bastard from The Reach or from The North. I wouldn’t mind developing a cunning mindset but I would want to be honorable like The Starks.
Wouldn't work in the books, where Cercei never gave birth to a child by Robert. Even in just the show, Maggy's prophecy states that Cercei would only have three children: it works if you figure that early deaths don't count, but a fourth child living to adulthood would contradict it outright.
