One of the huge screw ups IMO of the show writing was having Sansa marry Ramsey. Littefinger would NEVER have done that in the books, he came as close to loving Sansa as he was capable of the emotion.

Exactly. His love for Cat and then Sansa was the only thing that humanises the character, once he sold off Sansa he became two dimensional.

I just finished the War of the Roses books series by Conn Iggulden, King Edward was clearly the main inspiration for Robert Baratheon, he also was a beast on the Battlefield, extremely strong and violent, but once he conquered the crown for the York House, he lost himself, was a terrible politician, but a marvelous warrior, sadly his brother betrayed his trust and allowed the Lancasters to regain the kingdom

Henry V, Henry VIII, Alexander the Great and all the other warrior kings of history who found conquering kingdoms easier than ruling them would be my main guesses. Also Genghis Khan for the turmoil that his death caused.

Alexander the Great made some places he conquered (via marriages for example) to be self ruled, but faithful to him. You can't be a Conqueror and rule directly every single Kingdom you conquer ( especially if you are a capable conqueror with a gigantic empire) by yourself, you know you are still a human, not a God so to be in every place every single time...

This is still the case to this day. Conquering is easier then ruling. Even if you study current military history, if you’re interested there is a conquest going on right now, in Afghanistan. After studying The Taliban, one has to admit they are resilient, ferocious fighters and brilliant military tacticians. Right now they are conquering district after district. Following the news it’s like medieval style. However I can guarantee you right now they will find conquering 1000000% easier then ruling. They are not statesmen nor politicians (they are nothing lol, other then radical clerics). There goverment will collapse after about 30-50yrs. It’s inevitable. It’s only the natural way of things. These people CANNOT rule or govern a country 🤷🏻‍♂️. Ruling is A LOT harder then conquering.

The man is too willing to give up his own morality. under his reign personal freedoms, like freedom of religion, will be gone. He isn’t the man to lift up a fallen enemy, either. How many would die before there is peace under his iron fist. Most options suck, including Danny, but at least she would kill in the name of protecting the weak, not because of a stringent sense of justice in the eyes of arbitrary law. @@ZackThoreson I find the quote from Donal Noye - “Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, he’ll break before he bends” - interesting, because this is not the Stannis we see in the series, it’s the Stannis we hear about before the series started. His flexibility in forgiving his enemies, evidenced by Renly’s initial bannermen, presents a man who is so driven by the notion of duty that he is willing to put his personal grievances aside. A King who is so willing to bend his morals for what he sees as the greater good can only be a good king. His iron fist and legal right only exacerbate this in my eyes
@ZackThoreson
@ZackThoreson 3 года назад
@@henryruston9572 I will concede the point about raising his enemies up. He did it with the wildlings too, I guess. Putting aside “for the greater good” actions that are questionable at best, he doesn’t have the personality for the job. He isn’t a natural leader. His reaction to adversity is to sulk in isolation. Very few people like him on a personal level. Some respect him, for his past victories, but few would put down their life for him other than for the sake of honor or personal gain. Sure, he is fighting for the north and the real enemy, but he fights almost alone because no one likes him.

@barbiquearea
@barbiquearea 3 года назад
Funny enough in the first book Robert even contemplated abdicating his crown so he could become a sellsword commander and go on great adventures in Essos as he preferred that to the boring life of ruling his kingdom. Richard pretty much did just that when he took up the cross and joined the Third Crusade.

No lie, having a Crusade might have actually benefitted Robert’s reign. If he waged and oversaw a war in Essos, particularly against the cities of Slaver’s Bay, a lot of problems would’ve been solved. Robert’s reign was only ever solidified after crushing the Greyjoy Rebellion, another war would further legitimize his power and show his strength of arms. It would also bring more loyal and capable knights and sell swords to his cause. Leaving the realm to men interested in ruling like Jon Arryn, Stannis the mannis, and even Tywin Lannister would lead to some more hands-on ruling from capable men. The Faith may forgive much of his debt and even pronounce it a holy war; in the eyes of the Seven, slavery is an abomination. Same goes for the Iron Bank. Oh they’d never fully absolve the debts but Bravos would certainly support someone crushing their enemies in Essos, and it becomes personal as well as political considering they’re a city of escaped slaves. And being away from Cersei, fighting battles, waging what could arguably (propaganda certainly would help) be called a ‘just war’ would do wonders for Robert’s health in mind and body. I don’t think it would be perfect, in fact it would probably lead to a very different kind of disaster, not even counting White Walkers and supernatural threats no one knows about. Robert would probably die by a stray arrow or get poisoned or accidentally suffocate under a pile of whores. But he would still have preferred it to dying drunk, killed by a pig. And the realm might’ve, maybe, have been spared a War of Five Kings.
@phantasosxgames8488
@phantasosxgames8488 Год назад
@@timothyflynn2738 true. But let us not forget that it could also spare a War of Five Kings if Robert didn't called Lyanna's name while sleeping with Cersei. Because it would mean Cersei wouldn't had aborted their first child , so none of the incest kids would had a claim.
