Never heard so many platitudes in an introduction i can't listen to any of this anymore

I don't see how he progresses from his theory of reflexivity to open society and then to arguing for financial regulation. He never defines what public good is or what indicators of an open society are. He also never really defines any guiding principles in choosing what regulation is right. I was hoping he'd give more examples on "who's doing it right" today. He keeps talking about the US and finance-industry in isolation. Would love for him to talk more about social activism. Quite honestly after listening to his lectures I'm only more confused about his thinking process.

Cristovam Buarque is a former Senator, Governor of the Federal District and Minister of Education. He's an engineer who specialized in economics and was the Dean of the University of Brasilia UnB. He's the creator, while Governor, of the Schooling Minimum Income Program (Bolsa Escola) that was incorporated by Pres. Fernando Henrique Cardoso into the Federal Government. He wrote the Workers Party (PT) 2002 government plan for the Lula candidacy. After Lula was elected he fired Buarque by telefone after one year - Lula thought focusing on basic education would harm his electoral performance in 2006 and could even harm it. Cristovam Buarque is the most important fighter for public education in Brazil and a great politician.

omg, it's so interesting to watch this at this time (mid 2012) with soaring debt crisis in focus, declining china's economic activity and usa's inequalities problems..

Now that was a funny intro, "Never one to shrink from controversy or prediction, today George Soros ..." That is entirely missing Soros's main point, you can't make predictions because decisions that affect the future have not yet been made." How does this happen?

It is amazing to watch this lecture now, almost a decade later. Almost everything he said has come true more or less. The world is moving along towards a global SDR currency which will be backed by the currencies of major economies as well as the addition of gold. This will transfer the power of finance away from the US to the IMF and other supranational organizations, like the BIS and World Bank. This way, they can still keep the control of the world economy in these organizations, while allowing the global financial system to survive more crises in the future, since they can just print SDR's to bail out the banks. Of course, this will, in time, cause high inflation in the SDR currency nations while gold will take more and more space in the SDR basket. In time, this process will inflate away the sovereign debts (as well as savings) of the world while ultimately gold will back the entire SDR. It's a brilliant and beautiful plan really when you think about it.

Alot of these professional investors NEVER let the public know what they are really investing in. However, they will only mention it when they want to sell their stocks so that they can hike up demand and sell for profits when the general public is starting to buy.

I'm not a particularly religious or spiritual person in general. But I would submit to you all that, what we are looking at and listening to here, is indeed the BEAST. The chief problem of 2008 was dishonesty and covetousness (allowing short sales of cmo's). No one should be allowed to sell what they do not own. In some cases, the dishonesty was rooted in extortion by the Mafia (which aided mortgage loads so they could collect debts and sell short too). Covetousness may seem like a good way to make money by selling what is not owned. It would not have been so bad if profits (massive ones were taxed in proportion to the losses). Mental health and rehab of normal fools would have been financed by large taxes on downside profits on what is not owned. Taxation of violation of the Ten Commandments is a solution, where as no tax aids in "bullshit authority" of wealthy jackasses. Government is the chief violator, which taxes inflation profits. A solution for the U. S. is to nationalize gold mines and to use the military to mine gold to pay the national debt. Hoarding of gold is basically sitting on gold in the ground. This must respect biology, no mining and pollution of the real life assets (such as the fish in Bristol Bay, Alaska).
