I’m going oversimplify this but here it goes. Throughout the first, second, and part of the third piece of his speech I was with the thought, okay, governments, corporations, and populations without morals tend to mess civilization up. I can generally agree with that. But then towards the end he basically says, as a business person he does what he can to make money, but as a citizen he tries to change policy to make it impossible for citizens to make money the way he has made it. In other words, I’ve gotten my piece of the pie now I’m going to work to make it harder, if not illegal, for you to get your piece.

How about this George, and im being serious here, how about you find a piece of land a large piece of land, buy it (not in any exisint country) and make it sovereign, then you find a bunch of like-minded individuals such as yourself and develop the land as you see fit and have your open society and run it for a while to see how it works? if it doesn't pan out too well then you learned something, and repeat, keep doing this until you find something that works, but playing with peoples lives to get to your end goal of implementing this into a capitalist society, I think is evil

Instead of focusing on how social values should influence market value and vice versa and subjectively define the rules of conduct, you should focus on a system that as whole would autonomously results in both values optimally.

I love Soros's ideas and honesty. Tho I must say that I think he underestimates the damage refugee crisis has on european democracy and unity of EU. We must recognize that refugee immigration has completely changed in last five decades. Since wealth, technology and social security have increased tremendously in Europe, we cannot have uncontrolled immigration and naively hope that our western values will remain intact. As your mentor Karl Popper said that "Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." Because modern immigration is additionally caused by greed and hatred of west, countries where intolerance is virtue will use immigration as means to fulfill their function. We must recognize that (sadly) refugee crisis is a massive act of intolerance, but not from "nationalists" but refugees themselves

Politicians, government agent as well as business players can be bought if your price is right. The different forms of government only invites different ways to play the game. What is perverse is an economic system where risk is not shared. It is also against the religion which everyone knows and the fact they will practice this on some and not others is an act of economic war.

He makes a valid argument that capitalism is not perfect and talks about reasons. He sounds like he wants to improve current economic system not destroy it. But he gives money to far left!!! They want to destroy it!

This is part of a plan, and this part of the plan is to detach itself from the future swarm of graduate lobbyists in order to achieve this part of the plan sooner. I cannot be sure if the plan is ethical or where it will lead, because considering all the possible directions the plan could take is very difficult to determine. I fear that because of this plan, many of us will have to suffer for many decades.

He is so right about the lobbists. The problem is basically the money exchange in the first place. As long as we must have a value system like this all forms of government will eventually come to the same point. The greedy and power hungry will always have gross advantage over the society. The reason we have the constraints on business is due to the fact that even when employers can afford to provide safe work environments, employ equally those who qualify for a job, and work to pay for the necessities of life..but, employers were horrible to employees, thus government grew. And now we may be faced with WWIII and the end of everything.

Most Americans disagree with universal healthcare bco apart of our social identity is WORKING. Ppl should draw their benefits from gainful employment, not free healthcare by the simple virtue of being poor. There is medicaid/medicare for the truly indigent. I can see how corporations would lobby to push that financial burden on middle class taxpayers while they slide through loopholes. I think Open Society is a misnomer. i believe it only means open at the bottom .In so doing the top becomes more isolated and powerful. See economic incentives. Elites are keen to human nature and its inevitable liabilities as a result of competition, overcrowding, even under the most controlled conditions. The range in temperament, intelligence, refinement, en masse would be most beneficial to elites in taking steps backwards while powerful elites take steps to advance and widen the gap between success and failure within the context of natural ability and status. Hence,Open Society doesn't mean we are getting freer or more advanced per se. Quite the contrary. Its allure is the example of the bubble, its value as an ideal, and its inevitable burst ( and equilibrium, to give him the benefit of the doubt) at the expense of consumers. His revenge against Anglo supremacy and establishment of Jewish dominance is complete.

I have only watched the first 8 minutes but I will watch the five lectures latter. I just wished to introduce a new thought on Popper's Open Society. It is not only all that Popper so brilliantly puts it but also the best possible form of government. It isn't possible to excel. I describe it as RULE BY THE BEST ARGUMENT and can there possibly be a better ruler. Whether via freedom of speech and a free press or via endless debate and scrutiny in the talking shop (parliament) the best argument can be voiced, made public and win the day. And ultimately RULE. The corollary is that modern western parliamentary democracies can do no wrong in foreign and domestic policy over the longer term. They can make mistakes in the short term. I am not intolerant of the general use of the word capitalism as long as we remember that Marx's capitalism was replaced by the mixed economy even before he wrote Das Capital. Popper called the mixed economy "state interventionism" but when the UK state is responsible for 40-50% of all spending in the UK then the term mixed economy is the better term.
