I remember driving through Amarillo back in 1979 when I moved out to AZ. I was 21. Now I'm 66 remembering.

It was 1976. I was 21 driving for Frank Potter out of Boonville, MO. I was hauling feeder calves from Memphis, TN to Amarillo. Every time I hear this song I’m back driving I’m now 70

First heard this song while in Amarillo assisting the Marine Corps Reserve Center in 84-85. One of the local tv stations played this at the start of their broadcast day. Had a Marine named Cates from Amarillo and his dad owned a bar. On my way to Quantico to become a Warrant Officer, I tried to find his dad’s place and let him know I just left him in Saudi before the Gulf War started and he’s doing good.

I am a retired cross country truck driver. In over 40 years on the road, I must have listened to this a thousand times. This is one of the greatest songs in history, in "all" of music. A true music masterpiece.

My second wife, long since passed, loved this song, as it was our first dance back in '84...Still touches my heart.

I am a lifelong fan of Rock n Roll, but this gem by George Strait is simply Great Music! I have played it a dizen times or more!

George Strait has been a constant in my life since I was born. My parents listened to him and passed on that love to me. He would fill the house as my mom cleaned and cooked on the weekends. My dad would have him playing over that little radio in the shop as he was working on whatever hunk-of-junk he'd brought home that week. My wife and I danced to him at our wedding and my son loves to sing at the top of his lungs on the way to school. Thank you George for always being there, through good times and bad, first loves and heartbreaks, moments of joy and times of pain. I can always count on George Strait to have a song to fit the mood and help carry us through.

My father will have left this world seven years this summer. He was always somewhat emotionally distant, undoubtedly due to his time in Vietnam. I was born later than was ever anticipated, in Amarillo. My father had always loved rodeos, cattle roping, and country music. I don't remember much about my earliest years on this Earth, but I do remember this song, the first song I knew how to sing, and the first song I shared with my father. "I'll be looking for eight when they pull that gate, and I hope that judge ain't blind" is a line I ascribe to my father entering the last frontier, and it will live with me forever.

It's the fiddle that does it for me in this song. Pure country and western feel.

My son is in the army. He was just stationed in Texas last night. I sent him this song. Neither of us have been to Texas, but I imagine it feels like this song.

I was in the Air Force from 1977 to 1992.While stationed in Las Vegas my friends and I formed a softball team and they got me into country music.In 1986 I transferred to Albuquerque where I carried on with my love of country music.George and Reba really got to my heart.Amarillo By Morning became my favorite song and is still my favorite.

Terry Stafford, sole writer of this song, was raised age 7 in Amarillo, Texas & died there at the young age of 54. This song was named "#12 country song of all-time" by Country Music Television.

This is real country music. This comes from a country girl with generations of country running in her blood and sung to her every night before bed. This is the music that makes me happy. I don't understand why people take time out of their lives to give this masterpiece a dislike! Who takes the time out of their day to give hate?!?!

I first saw George Strait in 1976 , I was living in Austin Texas and had never heard of him, I was listening to the radio and the Disc Jockey , kept talking about this guy from San Marcos that was a cowboy and a wonderful singer , I think we saw him at The Broken Spoke but he was wonderful, the real deal, Austin in the 1970s and 1980s had some great country and blues music around town, Alvin Crow , Doug Sahm , The Vaughn Brothers, Lou Ann Barton, and the list goes on, but George Strait took off when Amarillo By Morning came out, that was over 40 years ago and he is still great

I was travelling east on I 40 from Albuquerque to Dallas. I was 20 miles from Amarillo & this song came on the radio. Beautiful horizon ahead as the sun was coming up. The colorful clouds made my trip I'll never forget. ☀🌈🐂🌲🔊🚗

This song on Austin City Limits in Detroit, lit a fire in me. I have been a fan ever since. Saw you in Vegas back in the 2000's. When I moved to SE Az, cowboy country near Tombstone, the fire was even bigger. This song got me started with my love of Country music.

George to me has always been "true" country music. He has a quiet self confidence , free of over the top promotion. Most importantly he is what he sings about, I'd be extremely shocked if those closing clips are not of him personally.

in 2016 i left cullman alabama headed to bishop california.I told my wife i had to make Amarillo by morning because of this song and we accomplished it 19 hours Stright then of course i had to stop a little up the road in winslow arizona funny how the mine works.

When I first heard this song years ago, I became a George Strait fan. He never disappoints.

I love how in back in the day instruments were used to compliment a great voice, now it seems for the most part instruments are meant to mask a second rate voice.

My dad loved this song, he would always play it and even had it as his ringtone back then. Everywhere we went there wasn’t a time this song wasn’t played. Great memories. 🙂

I love George strait. He was one of the best and still is. I am 52 years old and I have always loved his music. My son and I were trying to figure out how long he's been around and I said it felt like it had been forever but found out that his first hit was in 1981. He's still great today! And it's real true good country music! I love you George!
