I think the music told the story in this song. His voice was just another instrument adding sound. I'm convinced he could sing gibberish and it would still tell a story!
Oceanfront property in Arizona is a phase we use here. It's been a long standing thing here if California were to fall into the ocean we would have ocean front property.
Ok bourbonites, I have read a few comments on here and past videos about them pausing videos. 1. This is a reaction channel, we want to see and hear their reactions to the music and bourbon. 2. There are certain rules that they must follow thru RU-vid in order to post these videos and stay out of copyright hell like pausing, posting music license, etc. 3. The community loves their comments and reactions and when they pause they provide insight, sometimes right sometimes wrong, and that allows the community to comment and interact with them. So if you don't like how they do it, please just go and watch the videos yourself on RU-vid and stop criticizing these guys for enjoying country music they have never heard. SINCERELY KING BOURBONITE
The songwriter to this song Dean Dillon has an amazing catalog of songs including Tennessee Whiskey, The Chair just to name a couple . Is also an amazing singer himself . I get the pleasure of seeing and hearing him each year at the Flora-Bama .
George Strait and Alan Jackson have had the same band since they made it big. George's band is Ace in the Hole. It's great watching some of Alan Jackson's first music videos from 89/90 when they're all barely grown kids and then his recent stuff and it's the same guys all in their late 50s.
O.G. George has 60 #1 songs over his career. Rodeo man, devoted husband, and all-over good person. Corporal Strait served in the Army as an Infantryman in the 25th Division from 1971 to 1975, and also competed as a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association team-roping competitor. For us fellow veterans, he and his sponsor Wrangler established the National Patriot Program to raise money for America's wounded and fallen military veterans and their families.
George is just an all around good dude!! He was STILL doing rodeo and ag program outreach with colleges in 2003, probably still does. He was a good roper, damn good. 🤷♀️ and he was really generous with his time with those rodeo teams with high schools and colleges. Especially those 'Ag' colleges. Again, just a good dude
We kinda play that by ear (pardon the pun). We've had a few where we really didn't pause. Others, I hear all kinds of things I want to comment about. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts Absolutely!! Some songs you listened to without pausing out of respect. Others are just so full of little treats in the music that you pick up on and need to share!!
I remember this song from his early days hitting the dancehalls in Texas back in the 1970's. They played some of the best dance music ever. One of my favorite early songs is Marina Del Rey. Blame it on Mexico is another good one. Ace in the Hole band really shines with songs of Bob Wills and the Playboys, both swing and blues.
And now you know why they call him King George. I've had the pleasure of seeing him live and he brought down the house! You will never see him in skinny jeans sporting a man bun. People love him because he's always stayed true to his roots. Country music will lose an icon when he passes.
If you had ever had the opportunity to see him back in the day, you would have not only been blessed to hear his smooth vocals but also his extraordinary live band, The Ace In The Hole Band. Probably one of the best 5 piece live bands in country music. The first two times I saw him at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, Texas, they left the back 1/3 of the floor area clear of chairs so people could dance. They started out playing dance halls and honky tonks and he said he loved watching people having a good time dancing as much as he did hearing the cheering!
A day with a little tune from King George is a good day. A gazillion country songs were written off old sayings, cliches, colloquialisms, etc. They virtually write the hook for you and can provide a lot of the theme and direction for the song, while the listener almost has a feeling of being part author.
A fun reaction. To me this is classic George Strait. You got me thinking about songs that can be modified (customized when in concert). Have you ever heard the song "I've Been Everywhere" Johnny Cash has a great cover of this song.
After that song came out, the oceanfront property in AZ really hit mainstream in lives in conversations/arguments/funny pitches… at least in my southern neck of the woods
Y’all need to listen to Amarillo by morning, a more recent live version, the fiddle is just heaven! There is not another country artist that beats KingGeorge!
Funny thing about this song.... When i was in Highschool there was a girl in one of my classes who thought Arizona was on the ocean because of this song. We had to explain it to her one day... Haha.
Think of the fact that Arizona is a desert as well as had 4 syllables. Oceanfront property in the desert is absolutely absurd, so it's a round about way to tell his wife how much she means to him. It makes it obvious that he would be lying if he said those things.
Wonderful reaction, I like your interruptions, I learn about other music stuffs. I grew up hearing and saying 'ocean front property in Arizona' before this song came out, so it is an old saying.
I remember me hearing my grandmother saying this anytime we kids stretched the truth lol . She was Kiawah Comanche and born in 1894 in Oklahoma on the Res.
George started when country music was starting to go in a different direction! He stayed old school and I believe he showed that he made the right choice! I think old school country still gets the job done even now! Oh yeah! door door door lol Oh and I really don't care about the doors, you can hang it sideways and it really wouldn't matter to me!
Love this song. And King George is the best. Keith nerding out about the music is one of my favourite things on the channel. Love the explanations. I have tried that bourbon, liked it ok. It was pretty reasonable, as far as I recall. Thanks for the reaction.
@@stevebournite184 Oh yeah, we will. My only and last experience with Texas wasn’t the best, but Bourbon and BBQ sounds awesome. 😉 Thanks for the great idea. Your country is just so freaking big, that in like 3-4 weeks vacation per year we can’t see everything we want to. 😁 So we always have to come back for more. 😂
@@stevebournite184 And if you ever gonna be in Germany/Europe again, we’re gonna invite you for some beer. It’s not Bourbon, but drinking a cold big Bavarian beer sitting in a beer garden on a warm summer day is very enjoyable. 😉
@@stevebournite184 I totally get it. Like I said, if there is a German food item that I can sent, just tell me. And you should come back to visit. I love hearing American English all around Munich.
Great reaction. And yeah King George was picking up on her it's not unusual in the Texas area to hear the line that if you'll buy that I got some oceanfront property.
If you want to music nerd out, and I hope you do because I love it - you need to react to more Vince Gill. You’ve got a video on your list called “Killer Guitar Player,” which is the same thing as “Oklahoma Borderline.” Highly recommend a live version reaction.
George is the best & he's still handsome in his 70s. As to country bassist. Johnny Cash & Luther Perkins ( brother of Carl Perkins of Blue Suede Shoes fame) started out known as The Tennessee Two. The kicker was that they had a bass player named Marshall Grant. Later on, they added a drummer named W.S. Holland. They changed the name of the band to The Tennessee Three. Grant was still with them, but it was like he didn't count.
Freaking loved your breakdown on this song Keith. Been in 4 country bands and its real good to hear someone dissect a song like that. Also just bought woodford reserve double oaked and it's amazing. I'd like to know your thoughts on it. Thanks guys!
'Preciate that. I don't get a ton of love for the musical breakdowns. As for Woodford Double-Oaked, I think it's great. Awesome flavor at a reasonable price. And best of all, always available. It's a staple mid-shelf bottle for me. - Keith
Dustin, remember the concept he said he didn't love love her. That was so not true he had to go with the exact opposite. He picked Arizona because its a dessert state.the dessert and the ocean are exact opposites.Just as greatly opposite as his statement and his true feelings. There wasn't enough difference in the Iowa section of the Mississippi to get the point across.
OK. Just got to the part where you guys are talking about ocean front property in Arizona. Being from California, where we have earthquakes; there has always been a discussion about a big earthquake, breaking off, basically the entire west coast. California would stink, and Arizona would become the new West Coast.
The only reason I'm asking is because I have disabilities and can't afford to get for the channel like I thought was going to. I love your channel guys.
George Strait has had 86 Top 10 Country Hits including 44 #1 songs. The only person with more Top 10 was Eddy Arnold. You need to do more George Strait. I would suggest "The Chair", "50 Proof Bottle of Tear Stopper", and "All My Ex's Live In Texas". Although, any of his song would be great. Also, Arizona works because of it's dry climate.
The first time I heard the line “I’ve got some Ocean Front Property in Arizona.”, I assumed “Ocean Front” was the name of the street and it was a play on words.
You're too young! Ocean front property in Arizona had replaced 'a bridge' at the time this song was popular. It was a very common to say. This is when the speculation about the San Andreas fault was a thing. If California fell off, obviously Arizona would be on the Pacific Coast. Duh.
Y'all should really go down the George Strait rabbit hole he has 60 No. 1 singles, more than any artist of any genre, and 33 platinum or multi-platinum-selling albums, more than any country artist and third across all genres behind only The Beatles and Elvis Presley. They don't call him King George for nothing.
This is a Cliche song about his love and how he felt about her. He means the exact opposite of what he is saying. The theme of the song is simple and easy to understand after you first hear it.
scammers would sell plots of land in Arizona to People arriving at Ellis Island and tell them they would love their ocean views. Same on the west coast with the Golden gate Bridge. convince people the could buy the rights to Charge a Toll to cross
This song is exemplary of the generic sound of most of the Country Music that was produced in the 1980's. The only thing that makes it musically distinctive is the smooth vocal styling of George Straight. Not even a clever lyric or a catching title is unique in Country Music. All of the best ones have them. As for Keith's recognition of the rather bland bass in the music it brings to light one of the fundamental differences between Rock and Country music. Rock is more often than not primarily defined by the technical style of the musicians that record and perform it whereas Country Music is often defined more so by the singer and the lyrics of the song. As great as the excellent guitar work of say a Glenn Campbell, a Jerry Reed, or a Roy Clark might be to other musicians the average Country Music fan knows them best by their personalities or their songs. It should also be noted that throughout much of its history, Country Music was recorded primarily by studio musicians (like Glenn Campbell and Jerry Reed) and their playing was on everybody's records, often for decades. Rock music is almost always recognizable and defined by the sound created by the musical talent of the band performing the song. In rock they might all be playing an electric guitar but even the casual fan will know that they are hearing a Jimmy Page, a Eddie VanHalen, or an Angus Young within just a few notes. That doesn't happen in Country Music. Just imagine how bland the history of Rock Music would be if the majority of it was recorded by the same studio musicians playing the same old licks. In Country Music, which springs from the earthen soil, all you need is three chords and the truth. ✌
I love you guys...but im going to say this because its been eating at me awhile.Keith...you read WAYYYY to much into the way songs are written. You seem to think that the singers write theyre own songs....and that the songs are based on the singers lives or experiences. Some of the songs...such as this one were written by different people in a completely different era. They are just songs....period.Some country songs are just silly,goofy....or uplifting...or heartbreaking. They dont all reflect on the singers...or the writers personal lives. If you spend too much time picking apart every little nuance your going to miss just enjoying the songs. Its country music....like a country back road ....just flow with it.😉
it's called a reaction channel. the point is for them to react. and these guys are the most fun and the best reaction channel on RU-vid. so I think (in my opinion) they are doing just fine.
@@Melody-bourbonite4life they provide insight on my level. I've got a few channels that I watch and they are WAY over my head, but I like it because I learn from them! BCR is a much more welcoming style. I feel like I'm sitting across the room from them.
