George sings this song really well. He should consider recording it. Pancho and Lefty is one of those songs that is truly timeless. It will never die out as long as folks keep recording it.

Kaysie Simmons. Of course he has aged...and that's okay. He's growing old with the rest of us. How refreshing in this day and age of the entertainment industry. A lot of them drop out of site for a while and come back with NEW old faces. They look like someone who could be related to them. Hope george keeps on growing old gracefully. We love him just the way he is.
No one can beat this guy .as a singer or roper the real deal. I meet george in Massachusetts in the 80s at the palace in saugas. He had no president to his fan club.he was not well known.but .I loved the gentlemas he is.not much to say .a man of many words.😘❤

I was there for this concert. I almost forgot about the $17.00 beers lol. George still moves around great for a man in his late 60’s. Hope we’ll be able to enjoy him for many years to come. There’s something to be said for doing real work in your life. Makes you durable.

Merle had 38 number one classic hits but he wrote 34 of them. That’s greatness. George has had 60 number ones and he’s not a great writer but neither was Elvis and I think George is in the Elvis category.
Woody615 What? That has nothing to do with it. Merle Haggard couldn’t read music Dolly Parton can’t either, some of the best writers in the world can’t read music. They just get the tunes in their heads and tape it and someone else writes the music.
George may not have written the songs, but he had the XFactor.....he had the style and the ability to turn the song into something more. A lot of amazing songs never make it number 1 because they end up with the wrong artist.

@@ronniebishop2496 Apologies. Some might have gotten the impression that he could write songs, but that he just couldn't write great songs. I was trying to point out that the reason he couldn't write songs (let alone great songs) was because he couldn't read music. That's all. Could he "own" a song? Most definitely. He could sing the soul out of most songs, but it was other people who wrote the songs. Richard Carpenter offered "Merry Christmas, Darling" to Elvis. Since he couldn't read it, he had his singers/band sing it while he walked around absorbing the song and getting the feel of it. Richard said that he tried to help Elvis "get" the song, but he never did, so Elvis passed on it and never recorded "Merry Christmas, Darling." Instead RC rearranged it for Karen and as they say, the rest is history.
Can you imagine the looks on the Hollywierd crowd when he told them that, out of devotion to and respect for his wife, he WOULD NOT kiss Leslie Ann Warren in the movie Pure Country? That is why the movie ends with them just hugging. He would not disrespect his wife, especially in public in a movie, regardless of the money involved. Still married to his childhood sweetheart. Still runs his ranch with his son. Award willing roper (that demanded he do all of the action shots in the movie, to the horror of the studio). He is indeed a man that walks the walk. Reminds me a lot of Arron Tippin. Owned and managed a heavy equipment company while singing. Except Arron would not even sing a cheating song, again out of respect for his wife. As close as he got was one about a man ALMOST cheating. Another one is Charlie Daniels. All devoted husbands, all Christians. And look at what country music has now.............
Hasn't lost once drop of original magic. A little sad watching this, as I can remember when he was a newcomer kid. His background made him the real thing; what you see is what you get.
Cracking version - maybe worth recording with Alan Jackson, although I doubt anybody could better the Willie & Hag original which took a CMA award. Incidentally, there is an alternative version that Merle cut (with Willie) when he re-recorded his hits after selling the rights to his catalogue.
